Pak Issues 4 Threats To India Amid U.S. Tensions; 'Will Teach You A Lesson If Indus Waters...'

Time of Indiaa day ago
Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued a stern warning to India, vowing that not even a single drop of his country's share of river water will be taken. The statement comes amid heightened tensions after India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty in April following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack. Sharif's threat marks the fourth hostile message from Pakistan in just 48 hours, following remarks from Army Chief Asim Munir and other leaders. The 1960 World Bank-brokered treaty has been a key water-sharing agreement, now in abeyance over Pakistan's alleged role in terror activities in Kashmir. Sharif cautioned that any attempt to block the flow of water would have serious repercussions for regional peace.#IndiaPakistanTensions #ShehbazSharif #IndusWatersTreaty #AsimMunir #IndiaNews #PakistanNews #WaterWar #BreakingNews #PahalgamAttack #Modi #Kashmir #Geopolitics

Pakistan to create new force in military to supervise missiles after India conflict

Pakistan will create a new force in the military to supervise missile combat capabilities in a conventional conflict, apparently a move to match India. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the creation of the Army Rocket Force late Wednesday (August 13, 2025) at a ceremony held in Islamabad to commemorate the worst conflict in decades with India in May. The ceremony was held a day ahead of Pakistan's 78th Independence Day. "It will be equipped with modern technology," Mr. Sharif said in a statement from his office, adding that the force will prove to be a milestone in strengthening the combat capability of Pakistan's army. He did not give any further details. 'Meant for India' A senior security official, however, said that the force will have its own command in the military which will be dedicated to handling and deployment of missiles in any event of a conventional war. "It is obvious that it is meant for India," he said. The two nuclear-armed nations keep upgrading their military capabilities in the wake of a longstanding rivalry since their independence from British rule in 1947. The latest tension between the two countries soared in April over the killing of 26 civilians in Kashmir, an attack New Delhi blamed on Islamabad. Pakistan denied involvement. A conflict then erupted in May, the most serious fighting between the two countries in decades, which saw both sides using missiles, drones and fighter jets before it ended with a ceasefire. Islamabad acknowledges the U.S. role in the ceasefire, but India denies it, saying it was agreed directly between the two militaries.

'Foundation Of...': After Asim Munir, Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif Invokes 2-Nation Theory

Shehbaz Sharif's statement came after Pakistan army chief General Asim Munir last month highlighted the 'two-nation theory'. Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday echoed Army chief Asim Munir's opinion and validated the 'Two-Nation Theory", which is the foundation of their country. In his Independence Day message, Sharif claimed that the recent four-day border flare-up with India and 'Marka-e-Haq" by Islamabad was a historic victory for his country. However, India, on multiple occasions, has dismissed the rhetoric as political posturing far removed from operational facts on the ground. Notably, Operation Sindoor was launched on the intervening night of May 6-7 to avenge the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack. In retaliation to the terror attack, the Indian armed forces struck terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Wishing his countrymen 78 years of independence of Pakistan, Shatif took to X and wrote, 'Pakistan's historic victory in Marka-e-Haq during the four-day war imposed by India has not only reinforced the sanctity of our freedom, but has also instilled a renewed sense of ambition and national spirit in the hearts of our people, magnifying the pride and fervour of this Independence Day." 'With the blessings of Almighty Allah, our brave armed forces revived their past glory and shattered the false pride of enemy by acting as a Bunyan-um-Marsoos – a solid fortified wall. The military capability, valour and faith of our brave soldiers and air warriors forced the enemy to kneel down." 'We pay tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the sake of our freedom and offer prayers for the elevation of their ranks in eternal life. It was not merely a military conquest, but also the victory of the validation of a Two-Nation Theory, which is the foundation of our dear homeland. With same passion, we stand vigilant to defend and safeguard our national interests including water resources," he added. I extend my heartfelt felicitations to the nation on completion of 78 years of independence of Pakistan.I pay tribute to Father of the Nation, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and the Thinker of Pakistan, Allama Muhammad Iqbal, who along with other resolute leaders and… — Shehbaz Sharif (@CMShehbaz) August 14, 2025 Notably, Sharif's statement came after Pakistan army chief General Asim Munir last month highlighted the 'two-nation theory', stating that Muslims and Hindus are two different nations. Munir's remarks came after he had described Kashmir as Pakistan's 'jugular vein" during a diaspora event and asked overseas Pakistanis to pass on the country's story to their children, emphasising that their forefathers believed Hindus and Muslims were different in every possible aspect of life. view comments First Published: August 14, 2025, 12:03 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'Incidents like Pahalgam can't be ignored': SC hears pleas seeking restoration of J&K's statehood; seeks Centre's response

Supreme Court (AI image) NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday said the 'ground situation' in Jammu and Kashmir must be considered before restoring its statehood, noting that 'incidents like Pahalgam' cannot be ignored. A bench led by Chief Justice of India B R Gavai, with Justice K Vinod Chandran, asked the Centre to respond to a plea seeking J&K's statehood within eight weeks. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the court that steps are being taken but there are 'peculiar situations' in the region. Mehta pointed out that assembly elections were held as promised to the Constitution Bench that had upheld the abrogation of Article 370 and the bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories. He added, 'This is not the time for petitioners to muddy the waters.' The petition, filed last year by academician Zahoor Ahmad Bhat and socio-political activist Khurshaid Ahmad Malik, seeks directions to restore statehood within two months. It argues that keeping J&K as a Union Territory for nearly five years has weakened its democratic setup, caused 'grave losses' to development, and hurt the rights of its citizens. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo The plea also says the delay violates the Supreme Court's earlier directions to restore statehood 'at the earliest and as soon as possible,' especially since assembly election results were declared on October 8, 2024. In its December 2023 verdict, the Supreme Court ruled that Article 370, which gave special status to J&K, was only a temporary provision. It held that the President had the power to revoke it after the state's Constituent Assembly ceased to exist in 1957.
