Parag Jain is new RAW boss
The two-year tenure of Jain, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the 1989 batch of the Punjab cadre, officially begins on July 1. He takes over from Ravi Sinha, who retires on June 30. The decision to appoint Jain as chief of the external intelligence agency was made by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet earlier this week, officials said. Before this, Jain was the head of the Aviation Research Centre, an organisation that deals with aerial surveillance, SIGINT operations, photo reconnaissance flights (PHOTINT), monitoring of borders and imagery intelligence (IMINT).
Jain is known for his exceptional expertise in integrating both human intelligence (HUMINT) and technical intelligence (TECHINT) and is widely credited as the mastermind behind the planning of 'Operation Sindoor', providing intelligence support that enabled the armed forces to execute precise strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Rajasthan sarpanches express gratitude to PM Modi for their I-Day experience at Red Fort
Sarpanches from the border areas of Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Ganganagar were invited to the Red Fort in the national capital on the occasion of Independence Day on August 15 (Friday). Vibrant Village Programme is proving to be a milestone in addressing the problem of migration from border villages. Sarpanch Bhartharam of Navatla Bakhasar village in Barmer district, sarpanch of Kanwarpura in Sri Ganganagar district, Sanjana, sarpanch of 22 KYD in Bikaner district, and Geet Kanwar, Sarpanch of Myajlar in Jaisalmer district, had received special invitations. BSF IG Madanlal Garg told the media that during Operation Sindoor, it was our responsibility to protect the people living in the border area. These people were also associated with us during this time. Their ability to stay at the border is unique. He said that the village residents "supported us during Operation Sindoor... there was no need to evacuate the village". One sarpanch each from villages in four districts of the border was selected to be called to Delhi. Sarpanches were called under the Centre's Vibrant Village Scheme. The Vibrant Village Scheme aims to develop the villages across the border areas. Through skill development, scope for new employment opportunities is aimed to be created so that the people of the village do not need to go to urban areas in search of employment. Sanjana, 22 KYD Sarpanch, Bikaner district, said: 'We were called to honour on the occasion of Independence Day. It was a great idea to meet PM Modi. Travelled in his life for the first time in an airplane." Bhartharam, Sarpanch of Navatla Bakhasar village in Barmer district, told IANS that it was a great experience. "During Operation Sindoor, we encouraged the BSF, so we were called to Delhi on Independence Day. It is a matter of great pride for all of us. We never thought we would get a chance to travel." Sarpanch Geeta Kanwar said: "I feel proud that on August 15, PM Modi extended an invitation. The BSF made quite good arrangements to take us to Delhi. It was good to listen to the Prime Minister's speech at the Red Fort. I thank PM Modi for inviting us."

CPI(M) general secretary M.A. Baby slams Naidu's silence on resettlement of Polavaram-displaced
Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] general secretary M.A. Baby on Sunday (August 17) expressed his dismay over the silence on the part of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Members of Parliament from the NDA in Andhra Pradesh on the Resettlement and Rehabilitation (R&R) of the displaced families of the Polavaram project. Mr. Baby and CPI(M) MP John Brittas on Sunday concluded their two-day field visit to the Polavaram project submergence area, where they took stock of the implementation of the R&R component. The duo inspected the R&R colonies and project-affected villages along the banks of rivers Godavari and Sabari in Y. Ramavaram, Rekhapalli, Yetapaka Mandals in the Chintoor Agency of Alluri Sitarama Raju district. Addressing the affected families at Ramavaram in V.R. Puram Mandal, Mr. Baby said the party was not against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's vision to develop the capital city of Amaravati, but disapproved of his silence about the Polavaram-displaced and R&R component. 'The Members of Parliament of the previous three terms (2014, 2019 and 2024) represented by the TDP and the YSRCP never raised their voice for the Polavaram R&R in Parliament. All of them failed to address the concerns of the Polavaram-displaced,' said Mr. Baby. He promised to return with an action plan to lead the fight for the resettlement and rehabilitation of the Polavaram-displaced, as guaranteed by the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. 'On the ground, the nexus between the bureaucracy and public representatives is reflected in the execution of the R&R component. An inquiry should be ordered into the irregularities in the R&R component, beginning from 2014-19 term,' said Mr. Baby. In his address, Mr. Brittas promised to raise his voice for the Polavaram-displaced at the national level. CPI(M) Central Committee Member K. Lokanadham, ASR district secretary Boppena Kiran and other leaders were present.

Shivakumar sailing in two boats on Dharmasthala issue: Pralhad Joshi
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar seems to be sailing in two boats on the issue of Dharmasthala burials case, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Sunday. 'On the one hand, Mr. Shivakumar suspects conspiracy behind the whole issue, while on the other hand, he blames the BJP for the protest against digging in Dharmasthala. This ambivalence is not easily understood,' he told reporters in Varur near Hubballi. He was responding to Mr. Shivakumar's statement on the BJP organising protests against SIT investigation. He has made a comment saying that Dharmasthala is not the BJP's private property. 'What does he mean by this? Should we keep quiet when Hindu holy places are under attack?' he said. He said that he strongly suspected that there is a conspiracy to take over the Dharmasthala temple by the State government. 'There is reason to believe that there is such a conspiracy. That is because the Congress government has tried to take over the wealth of Hindu temples in the past,' he said. The Deputy Chief Minister should clarify what he means by his statement. 'Has any BJP leader claimed that Dharmasthala is BJP's private property?' he asked. The State government has formed the SIT on the statement of an anonymous man. Will it order a SIT probe if someone says there has been a spate of murders in a dargah?' he asked. He sought action against vested interests who are making 'irresponsible statement' about Dharmasthala. Sri Gunadharanandi Maharaj, seer of the Jain math in Varur, said that the SIT probe will uncover the truth and expose the lies being spread about Dharmasthala. He said that the government should take action against those who are spreading slander against the holy place.
