Sharks XV get Junior Bok boost for trip to Loftus
The Sharks XV have named their line-up for Saturday's clash against the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld.
The defending champions, who lost 46-5 to the Lions at Ellis Park last weekend, have a mixture of experience and youth in their side.
Head coach JP Pietersen delayed the introduction of some young stars last week, but the time is ripe for the youngsters to make the step up to Currie Cup rugby.
Jaco Williams, Simphiwe Ngobese, Matt Romao and Simphiwe 'Vusi' Moyo have all been included in the matchday 23, following their U20 World Championship success with the Junior Springboks.
Williams, with his eye for the tryline and pace to match, has been named on the wing, replacing Khuthi Rasivhaga who moves to the bench, while Ngobese covers prop and flank Romao will provide backrow cover on the bench.
Moyo, also on the bench, starred for the Junior Boks with his place-kicking, astute distribution and physicality, converting two tries and kicking three penalties for an individual points' haul of 13, following his team's 23-15 victory over the Junior All Blacks in the final. With a total of 63 points across the tournament, he emerged as the global showpiece's top scorer.
Adding top-level experience amongst the forwards, lock Corne Rahl and flank Tino Mavesere come into the starting line-up, replacing Gideon Koegelenberg and Mawande Mdanda respectively.
Tighthead prop Lee-Marvin Mazibuko is a welcome addition to the side. The 28-year old former Western Province and Stormers front row forward, who has returned to South Africa after a season with Racing 92 in France, starts in Mawande Mdanda's place.

'Missed out badly': Ricky Ponting and co called out over 'mind-boggling' mistake

South African cricket legend AB de Villiers has questioned why one of the IPL teams - including Ricky Ponting's Punjab Kings - didn't recognise Dewald Brevis' talent and pick him up in the tournament's auction. On Tuesday night, the 22-year-old Brevis made the highest score by a South African in a T20 international, leading the Proteas to a 53-run victory over Australia. Brevis scored 125 not out from just 56 balls, blasting 12 fours and eight sixes. His mammoth score propelled South Africa to an imposing total of 7-218, before Australia made just 165 in response. Brevis reached triple figures in just 41 balls - the second-fastest century by a South African in T20 history. It was his first hundred in international cricket, eclipsing Faf du Plessis' record of 119 for highest score by a South African. His previous high score in T20 internationals was just 41. "I think that's just my natural way of hitting," Brevis said after scoring 96 of his runs in boundaries. "I've hit 1000s of balls, and I just want to go out there, enjoy it and have fun. Yeah, just watch it (the ball). And then if it's there, it happens." AB de Villiers calls out IPL teams' mistake Taking to social media after the game, South African legend de Villiers expressed his shock that Brevis wasn't picked up in the last IPL auction. He was overlooked by every franchise - including the Ponting-coached Punjab Kings - before being signed by Chennai Super Kings as an injury replacement. "There was such a golden opportunity for IPL teams to pick up Dewald Brevis at the auction!," de Villiers wrote on social media. "Missed out badly. CSK either got very lucky, or maybe the biggest master stroke ever. The boy can play." He added: "Mind-boggling that he wasn't picked up at all! To think that he came in as an injury sub." Mind boggling that he wasn't picked up at all! To think that he came in as an injury sub🤷‍♂️😄 — AB de Villiers (@ABdeVilliers17) August 12, 2025 I bit of both. IPL scouts didn't watch how much he had improved in terms of both technique and his hitting ability after IPL 2024. I still remember Ambani's reaction when Brevis's name was called during this mega auction. — GK (@tactical_guy27) August 12, 2025 Greatest Mysteries of the World:1. Bermuda Triangle2. Pyramids3. How the hell did Dewald Brevis go unsold in IPL 2025 Auction! #Brevis #DewaldBrevis — Vikas Karmani (@vikaskarmani1) August 12, 2025 Dewald Brevis shows IPL franchises what they missed Brevis played six games for Chennai after being picked up late in the tournament, scoring 225 runs at an average of 37.50 with a strike-rate of 180. He previously played 10 games for Mumbai Indians across the 2022 and 2024 tournaments, averaging 23 with a strike-rate in the high 120s. Across his entire T20 career, he's scored 2438 runs with a strike-rate of 154. But it wasn't enough for Ponting or another IPL team to pick him up in the auction. His batting partner only added 31 in 22 balls as the anchorman. Their 100-run stand came up in just 44 balls, with Stubbs only contributing 16. "Just when I reached that century, the most important thing for me it wasn't me. It's all God," he said. "I give it all to him, all the glory, and he blessed me with a talent to play like that. That's the first person I gave all the glory to. It was fun to just be in that moment. It was a special moment." South Africa's win levelled the three-match series at 1-1 and ended Australia's record nine-game winning streak in the format. The deciding match will be played in Cairns on Saturday before a three-match one-day series between the teams in Cairns and Mackay. with AAP

Kaizer Chiefs Eye Back to Back Wins as They Host Polokwane City

Inacio urges consistency, while new signings boost squad ahead of key FNB Stadium clash. Kaizer Chiefs Eye Back to Back Wins as They Host Polokwane City Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to build on their winning start to the Betway Premiership when they face Polokwane City at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday night. The Soweto giants opened the 2025 /26 season with 2 - 0 victory over Stellenbosch FC and are targeting consecutive wins for the 1st time since last season. Inacio: Not About Revenge Despite last season's struggles against Polokwane City, captain Miguel Inacio insists the match isn't about payback. Chiefs failed to beat the Limpopo side in 2024 /25 earning just 1 point from 2 game. "It's not revenge game for us, We just have to do our best to win. Last season we lacked consistency and that's our main challenge now" said Inacio. Squad Boost Ahead of Clash Assistant coach Cedric Kaze confirmed that Ethan Chislett, Paseka Mako and Pule Mmodi are all available for selection. Chislett who recently received his South African passport, is eligible to make his debut. Mako's recovered from injury while Mmodi returns from suspension. "We're in very good space for tomorrow. It's our first home game and we know the importance of starting strong in front of our fans" Kaze said. Home Form Under the Spotlight Chiefs managed only 5 home wins last season collecting 19 point from 14 match. Improving their FNB Stadium record's priority and Kaze believes this fixture is the perfect opportunity. "We lacked consistency last season. This game's important to set the tone for what we want to achieve" he added. Background & Context The last time Chiefs beat Polokwane City was in Dec 2023, thanks to Pule Mmodi goal. Since then, Rise & Shine have been tricky opponent winning once and drawing once in the last campaign.
