Second BSF personnel succumbs to injury in Jammu due to Pakistani shelling
"Constable Deepak Chimngakham sustained fatal injuries during cross-border firing along the International Boundary in R S Pura area, Jammu district, on May 10, and attained martyrdom on May 11," the Border Security Force (BSF) said in a social media post.
The BSF director general and all ranks express their deepest condolences to his family, it said.
Eight troopers of the BSF's 7th Battalion were injured in Saturday's shelling, and sub-inspector Mohammed Imteyaz later succumbed to his injuries.
A wreath-laying ceremony was held with full military honours at the BSF's frontier headquarters in Jammu's Paloura on Sunday for Imteyaz.
His last rites will be performed at his native Narayanpur village in Bihar's Saran district on Monday.
A similar wreath-laying ceremony to honour Chimngakham will be held at the BSF's frontier headquarters on Monday.
The firing between BSF and Pakistani forces took place after India launched Operation Sindoor following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.
The military operation by the Indian Armed Forces was launched on May 7 and nine terror infrastructures were destroyed in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). All subsequent retaliations to Pakistani offensives were carried out as part of this operation.
The two countries reached an agreement to stop all firings and military actions on land, air and sea on Saturday after four days of cross-border strikes that triggered fears of a wider conflict.

The procurements are aimed at modernising the Army, Navy and Air Force. The Indian Army received Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for the acquisition of thermal imager‑based driver night sights for its BMP armoured vehicles, a move expected to give a boost to nocturnal mobility and combat readiness for mechanised infantry units. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD In a statement emphasising its strategic intent, the DAC declared that enhanced night‑vision capability would provide 'higher mobility and operational advantage' under low‑visibility conditions. For the Indian Navy, AoN was granted for the procurement of Compact Autonomous Surface Craft, BrahMos fire control systems and launchers, in addition to the upgrade of the BARAK‑1 point‑defence missile system. The surface craft are intended to bolster anti‑submarine warfare capabilities by detecting, classifying and neutralising maritime threats. The council also accorded approval to procure mountain radars and upgrade the SAKSHAM/SPYDER weapon system for the Indian Air Force, with a view to improving air surveillance across mountainous border regions and integrating air defence assets with the Integrated Air Command and Control System. In a major boost to unmanned systems capability, AoN was secured for the procurement of Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPAs) across all three services. Capable of carrying multiple payloads and operating at extended ranges, these drones are expected to enhance 24/7 surveillance and combat readiness. Furthermore, the Defence Acquisition Council also approved sustenance programmes for the C‑17 and C‑130J transport aircraft fleets, as well as a comprehensive annual maintenance contract for the S‑400 Long Range Air Defence Missile System, ensuring continued operational availability of these critical platforms. The DAC approval comes after the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor, which included precise airstrikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.

Russian strikes kill six across Ukraine
Russian strikes across eastern Ukraine killed six people, including a mechanic at a railway station, and wounded at least a dozen people, authorities said on Tuesday (August 5, 2025). In the first ceasefire violation since Operation Sindoor in May, Pakistan army on Tuesday (August 5,. 2025) evening indulged in "unprovoked" firing on forward Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said. The Indian Army strongly retaliated and the exchange of small arms firing between the two sides continued for nearly 15 minutes in the Mankote sector, they said. There was no immediate report of any casualty, the officials said, adding security forces have been put on high alert all along the border in view of the ceasefire violation that coincided with the sixth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, which gave special status to the erstwhile State of J&K, and its bifurcation into two Union territories. The sources said that the firing from across the border started at 7.40 PM on forward posts and the Indian troops retaliated befittingly. Indian and Pakistani militaries engaged in intense clashes between May 7 and 10 after India launched missile strikes targeting terror infrastructure across the border to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack. The border clashes, however, died down after the two countries reached an understanding. At least 28 persons were killed in Pakistani shelling, missile and drone attacks along the LoC in J&K with 13 of these deaths reported in Poonch district alone.
