Manny Pacquiao wants rematch with Mario Barrios after controversial draw, says he needs to train longer
Two judges scored the bout as a 114-114 draw, while the third gave the fight to Barrios, 115-113. The defeat dropped Pacquiao's career record to 62-8-3 with 39 knockouts. He was back in the ring four years after retiring.
Following the bout, Pacquiao said he would pursue a rematch with Barrios and talked about how he would train differently with another opportunity.
"I need to continue my training for longer going into a championship fight," Pacquiao said, via ESPN.com. "Because of the election I started late, but it's OK. Of course I'd like a rematch. I want to leave a legacy and make the Filipino people proud."
Pacquiao ran to regain the Senate seat in the Philippines that he held from 2016-22 earlier this year, but was defeated.
The 12-time world champion was energetic in the early rounds, landing several combinations. However, he appeared to tire and slowed down in the middle rounds, giving Barrios an opportunity to regain points on the scorecard.
Many observers among boxing fans and media, including fellow fighters, believed Pacquiao should have been the winner and earned an improbable comeback victory at the age of 46.
"That's just absolutely awful. Beyond awful. Complete f***eration," longtime boxing writer Dan Rafael posted on social media.
"The fight was indeed close, but Manny Pacquiao losing like that, when the "champ" seemed to s*** the bed and every person watching was rooting for a seemingly plausible Manny UD, was another meh look for boxing," said boxing promoter Lou DiBella.
"Really feels like Manny Pacquiao just got robbed of a legendary win befitting of a legendary career," Uncrowned's Alan Dawson wrote during the fight.

Former world champion Taylor announces retirement
Former undisputed world champion Josh Taylor has announced he is to retire from boxing with immediate effect. The 34-year-old Scot underwent eye surgery in February last year and, in the wake of his defeat by Ekow Essuman in May, has been advised by specialists that to continue boxing would put his eyesight at risk. The Tartan Tornado is one of Scotland's greatest ever boxers, having won Commonwealth Games gold at Glasgow 2014 and embarked on an extraordinary run in the professional ranks that led to him becoming world champion in just his 15th fight, unified champion in his 16th and undisputed light-welterweight champion in only his 18th bout. He was the first - and remains the only - male fighter from the UK to capture all four belts in a single division. More to follow. 'I'm sick': Manny Pacquiao vs. Mario Barrios controversy sets off boxing world
Manny Pacquiao appeared to have made history on Saturday in his much-maligned comeback bout against WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios. But then the judges took it away. Despite winning on the majority of scorecards from both his fellow fighters and boxing analysts online, Pacquiao's return from a four-year retirement ended in a controversial majority draw, helping Barrios to leave Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena with his WBC title intact. Two judges scored the contest a 114-114 draw, while one judge had it 115-113 for Barrios. Had the 46-year-old Pacquiao won, he would've made history as the second-oldest fighter in boxing history to capture a major world title. Pacquiao was a significant underdog on BetMGM coming into the bout against a man 16 years his junior. The contentious result ignited instant outrage across the boxing world, with many of Pacquiao's peers decrying the judges' assessments and feeling as if the Hall of Famer was robbed of a historic moment. Check out some of that reaction below, including commentary from pound-for-pound stars Shakur Stevenson, Claressa Shields and more. What is next for Oleksandr Usyk and Daniel Dubois?
Oleksandr Usyk is once again undisputed world heavyweight champion after Saturday's devastating fifth-round stoppage of Daniel Dubois at Wembley. Usyk sent Dubois to the canvas with a vicious left-handed punch titled Ivan to win back his IBF belt and add it to his WBA, WBC and WBO titles. Here, the PA news agency takes a look at what next for Usyk and what this result means for the blue-riband division. Where does this leave Dubois? Briton's Dubois is back in familiar territory and required to rebuild his career. The 27-year-old has managed it twice before after his shock loss to Joe Joyce in 2020 and his first defeat to Usyk two years ago. Frank Warren confirmed his fighter will not return for at least six months and a domestic affair with the likes of Derek Chisora or Dillian Whyte seems most likely at this point. So, who is next for Usyk? Usyk proceeded to namecheck Chisora, Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Joseph Parker in the ring immediately as potential opponents after Saturday's 24th victory of his undefeated professional career. The WBO has already implied that Usyk must next defend that belt against Parker. If Usyk, who has suggested his next fight would be his last, was to prefer a trilogy with Fury, he would have to vacate his WBO title and lose undisputed status again. Is Fury ready for another shot at Usyk? Fury wasted no time calling out Usyk after his victory as the 'Gypsy King' posted an Instagram video in the early hours of Sunday morning on a run. Fury retired after he lost to Usyk for a second time last December, but maintains he won those bouts and has already revealed he will return to the ring in 2026. Queensberry promoter Warren says Fury would love to fight Usyk at Wembley so it is all eyes on what the Ukrainian decides. No Fury vs AJ then? If Usyk does decide to fight Parker next, it would open the door for a long overdue Battle of Britain between Fury and Joshua. Whilst the duo no longer boast the status as world heavyweight champion, it is a contest that would draw huge interest and comfortably sell-out at Wembley. Joshua has been linked with a fight against YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, but the best way to add to his legacy would be to take on compatriot Fury – even if it should have happened years earlier. Best of the rest One of the next eye-catching fights in the division will see highly-rated Moses Itauma do battle with journeyman Whyte on August 16. Itauma, a 20-year-old southpaw, has 10 knock-outs from 12 wins and is widely regarded as the future of heavyweight boxing. Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh called for Itauma to fight Usyk on Saturday night. It feels too early for Itauma, but he is an option for Usyk along with Germany's Agit Kabayel, who is WBC mandatory, and WBA Regular champion Kubrat Pulev.
