'Manchild' by Sabrina Carpenter is already one of the biggest hits of 2025, and it earns that distinction as it enjoys a high-profile entrance on numerous Billboard charts. The tune, which introduces the singer's upcoming album Man's Best Friend, debuts inside the top five on most of the tallies it appears on, and the cut even starts at No. 1 on several charts.
The new release even brings Carpenter to a new career high on one particularly competitive list.
Sabrina Carpenter's New Single Opens at No. 3
Carpenter's latest single opens at No. 3 on the Digital Song Sales chart. Luminate reports that in its first full tracking frame, 'Manchild' sold just under 5,600 copies — a fairly healthy sum in today's streaming-focused music industry.
Sabrina Carpenter's New Career High
That No. 3 placement now stands as Carpenter's career-best showing on the Digital Song Sales tally. Until this week, she had only appeared inside the top five with one track. 'Taste,' a single from her most recent full-length Short n' Sweet, debuted in that region in September 2024, stalling at No. 5.
In addition to 'Manchild' and 'Taste,' Carpenter has also cracked the top 10 on the Digital Song Sales chart with two other tracks, 'Espresso' and 'Please Please Please.' Those singles from Short n' Sweet also spent time inside the competitive region, as 'Espresso' peaked at No. 6 in June 2024, while 'Please Please Please' climbed as high as No. 7 during the same frame.
Sabrina Carpenter Follows Only Oliver Anthony Music
Carpenter earns the second-highest debut this week on the Digital Song Sales tally, and she is edged out only by 'Scornful Woman,' the latest release from Oliver Anthony Music. That track opens in the runner-up spot, beating Carpenter's latest by roughly 200 copies. The list is once again led by 'Ordinary' by Alex Warren, which remains one of the breakout smashes of 2025.
'Manchild' Launches at No. 1
A healthy sales figure helps 'Manchild' debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100. It earns Carpenter her second champion and fourth top 10 on the tally of the most consumed songs in the U.S., which also factors in streaming activity.
Plays on Spotify, iHeartRadio, Apple Music, Tidal and other sites also played a major role in the tune's immediate success, as the track launches at No. 1 on the all-genre Streaming Songs chart. Radio support contributes to a song's placement on the Hot 100 as well, and while 'Manchild' earns notable debuts on both the Pop Airplay and Adult Pop Airplay rankings, it misses the Radio Songs chart for now.

Mexican band Los Bukis honored with star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Regional Mexican band, Los Bukis, was honored Wednesday with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for recording. A large crowd gathered along the 7000 block of Hollywood Boulevard to celebrate a group known for its rich cultural music and significance. The band started out as just a duo, created by cousins Marco Antonio and Joel Solís in 1973. After struggling for a few years, the duo was signed by Discos Melody. After a few years, the band expanded, welcoming seven additional members along the way, including Marco Ibarra, Arturo Martínez, Alfonso Bugarini, Eusebio "Chivo" Cortés, Roberto Guadarrama, Javier Solís, Pedro Sánchez and José Guadarrama. Led by Marco Antonio's voice and songwriting, the band became "pioneers of the romantic ballad in Spanish-language music," the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce said. In 1976, they marked the beginning of their professional career with the success of "Falso Amor." In the 1980s, Los Bukis evolved from being an opening act to a headliner. Their 1986 hit "Tu Cárcel" became Mexico's first Diamond Record and earned three Grammy nominations. In 1989, at the Premio Lo Nuestro awards, the band swept multiple categories, including group of the year and album of the year, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce said. After 25 years away from the stage, Los Bukis reunited in 2021 and made history as the first Latin artists to headline a stadium tour, "Una Historia Cantada," which began with sold-out performances at Sofi Stadium.

Gilda Cruz-Romo, Soprano Celebrated for Her Power, Dies at 85

Gilda Cruz-Romo, a singer whose soaring, penetrating lyric soprano in dozens of Metropolitan Opera performances drew the admiration of critics and fans throughout the 1970s and into the '80s, died on June 30 in San Antonio. She was 85. Her death, in a hospital, was confirmed by her niece Sandra Guerra. Ms. Cruz-Romo's powerful voice was ideal for Tosca, Aida and Cio-Cio San in 'Madama Butterfly,' and she was cast over and over in those roles. She sang 163 times with the Met, on tour and in New York, until her last performance with the company in 1984, as Tosca. She also sang at the major European opera houses — Covent Garden in London in 1972, and the Vienna State Opera and La Scala in Milan the next year. Critics focused on the natural way Ms. Cruz-Romo used her voice to inject character into her roles. From a 1962 debut in her native Mexico, opposite Jon Vickers in Wagner's 'Die Walkure,' to her final performances, 30 years later, in Falla's 'El Amor Brujo' in Guadalajara, where she was born, she was celebrated for a big voice — she could hit high Cs with perfect accuracy — that was also capable of singing quite softly. At the Met, she sang alongside stars like Sherrill Milnes in 'I Pagliacci,' Robert Merrill in 'La Forza del Destino' and Plácido Domingo in 'Tosca,' under James Levine. A 1974 performance in Turin in the title role of Verdi's 'Luisa Miller' was 'the aural equivalent of a Caravaggio painting,' the critic Scott Barnes wrote in a 2008 profile in Opera magazine. He praised her 'masterful use of light and shadow to etch an indelibly unique human being' and wrote that she had a sound 'perfect for Verdi and Puccini.' Want all of The Times? Subscribe.
