
I interviewed ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude for a real job — one AI blew me away
Here's what happened when I "interviewed" the chatbots with 5 tough questions.
Prompt: 'Here's a product: a new pastel travel pouch launching for spring. Write a product description in clever and conversational voice for the website and a matching caption for Instagram.'ChatGPT-4o offered a solid but safe answer. It was concise, brand-aware and platform-appropriate but lacked the depth of Gemini and the standout wit of Claude.Gemini 2.5 Pro produced practical, complete and sales-ready copy.Claude Sonnet 4 prioritized the brand voice and creativity, however the critical lack of product details on the website holds it back from being the best complete answer.Winner: Gemini. It delivered a sales-focused website description with all necessary details, benefits and a conversational tone. It balanced information and personality effectively across both platforms.
Prompt: 'We're launching a collaboration with a popular children's brand. Walk me through your messaging strategy for this campaign — from high-level storytelling down to tactical copy touchpoints.'
ChatGPT offered surface-level creativity lacking strategic foundation.Gemini was strong in creative execution and nostalgia-driven storytelling but less strategic.Claude delivered an agency-grade strategy that transformed the collaboration into a solution for family pain points. Winner: Claude for strategic depth, audience focus and operational rigor.
Prompt: 'How would you adapt messaging for the same campaign across email, TikTok, and store signage?'ChatGPT responded with a concise but simple and generic message that lacked depth.Gemini offered nostalgia-driven storytelling but also lacked tactical details.Claude treated channels as distinct conversion ecosystems and prioritized the audience experience.Winner: Claude for strategic depth, audience-specific psychology, conversion-focused CTAs and seamless channel adaptation.
Prompt: 'We want to refresh our brand voice slightly — still fun and elevated, but more editorial and confident. How would you approach updating the brand voice guide?'
ChatGPT delivered the simplest plan but lacked implementation strategy and metrics.
Gemini redefined pillars but was overly prescriptive and lacked flexibility for brand nuance.
Claude focused heavily on confidence and authority but offered less emphasis on preserving "fun" elements.Winner: Claude (sorta). It offered a data-driven rebrand needing authority shift and team alignment. But none of the chatbots addressed customer validation — a real brand would need that missing piece.
Prompt: 'Imagine we've just had a shipping delay right before a major product drop. What would you write to customers on email and Instagram to communicate the delay while keeping the tone upbeat and on-brand?'
ChatGPT offered more fluff than crisis support. Although the email subject line was fun, the chatbot prioritized style over substance and ignored operational credibility.
Gemini was polished and on-brand but missed emotional resonance.Claude turned a negative into a brand-building moment with strategic framing, multi-channel depth and flawless tone.Winner: Claude wins for it's PR-worthy response.
In a competitive simulation testing strategic thinking, brand agility and crisis leadership, Claude distinguished itself as the most qualified "candidate" for the Communications Manager role. While all chatbots demonstrated strengths, Claude consistently operated at a strategic leadership level.
While Gemini and ChatGPT excel at specific tasks (product copy, social hooks), Claude proves AI can lead with judgment, not just generate content, which made the chatbot standout choice for a Communications Manager role where strategy and empathy decide success.

Amazon Stock Falls 8%. Why, Jassy To-Dos, Why To Skip $AMZN Shares
Amazon stock fell 8.3% following a mixed second quarter report, according to CNBC. Why? Although Amazon's retail business performed well, investors expressed disappointment with the growth pace of Amazon Web Services – which grew more slowly than Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud. In a conference call, analysts expressed frustration with CEO Andy Jassy's explanations for AWS's relatively slow growth. Amazon's fundamental problem is its failure to adapt to the competitive imperatives of the generative AI age, as I described in my book Brain Rush. This age has been propelled by two companies – OpenAI which supplied the fast-growing ChatGPT and Nvidia, the designer of AI chips for speeding the training and operation of AI chatbots. Amazon seems to be applying the strategy it used to create the cloud services industry to one where it seems struggling to catch up. More specifically, unlike Microsoft and Google – which have access to proprietary integrated AI chatbots (ChatGPT and Gemini, respectively) – AWS's strategy of handing off to developers the task of choosing and integrating individual computing services requires more technical expertise – thereby slowing adoption. To grow faster, Jassey ought to consider three possible strategies: Since Jassy helped build AWS and has yet to demonstrate a compelling vision for competing with faster growing rivals, I am skeptical of whether Amazon will be able to leapfrog these rivals. 'Our conviction that AI will change every customer experience is starting to play out," Jassy said in an earnings release. 'Our AI progress across the board continues to improve our customer experiences, speed of innovation, operational efficiency, and business growth, and I'm excited for what lies ahead,' he added. I have requested comment from Amazon and will update this post if I receive a response. Amazon's Mixed Second Quarter Results Amazon's second quarter results combined above expectations sales and earnings with a mixed forecast for the future combined with a shaky explanation for why AWS is growing more slowly in the age of AI. Here are the key numbers: Second quarter 2025 sales: $167.7 billion – up 13% and $5.5 billion above the FactSet consensus, according to Investor's Business Daily. Amazon and its hyperscaler rivals – such as Google and Meta – are increasing their capital expenditures. For example, Amazon is boosting capital expenditures 42% to $118 billion in 2025 – while Google estimates 2025 capex of $85 billion while Meta forecast $69 billion in 2025 capex, according to CNBC. While formal return on investment information is not available for these hefty capital expenditures, investors are using growth rates as a proxy for ROI. Since AWS is growing at roughly half the rate of Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, investors see a problem with AWS's strategy. Jassy's responses to analyst questions about AWS' relatively slow growth. He said the faster-growing second ranked rival was '65%' the size of AWS, highlighted Microsoft's security woes – notably the hacking of SharePoint, and suggested it was 'early days' in AI, according to the Q2 earnings conference call transcript. These comments did not offer a compelling explanation of why Amazon – with 30% market share to Microsoft's Azure's 20%, according to Synergy Group -- is growing about half the rate of challengers. Why AWS Is Growing More Slowly Than Rival Cloud Services Since Jassy sidestepped the question, AWS is growing more slowly than rivals for two reasons: What Amazon Must Do To Surpass Cloud Services Rivals Here are three strategies Amazon must pursue to grow faster than its cloud services rivals: These recommendations may be difficult to implement and may not result in new services that deliver more value to customers than those from faster-growing rivals. For example, Amazon believes in inventing and improving its own solutions – as it did with AWS and Alexa. Therefore the recommended partnerships may be at odds with the company's culture. Moreover, as former CEO of AWS Jassy may have strategic blind spots. These could include viewing AI as primarily an infrastructure challenge that Amazon can solve with superior engineering and a tendency to see the more rapid growth of rivals as superficial – rather than a sign customers value AI cloud services from Microsoft and Google more highly. What Analysts Are Saying About Amazon's Stock Is Amazon stock – which has lost 2.4% of its value so far in 2025 – trading at a bargain price? Some analysts sound skeptical: The mixed views suggest some upside in Amazon stock. Of the 52 analysts who cover Amazon, the stock has 9.2% upside based on an average price target of $255.72, according to Zacks. Unless AWS' revenue growth accelerates, that modest gain could prove difficult to achieve.

Meta's hefty AI CapEx spend is already paying off, analyst says
It's been a busy week for Big Tech. Not only did Microsoft (MSFT) and Meta (META) both beat big on earnings this quarter, but Microsoft officially reached a $4 trillion market cap. Additionally, Apple (AAPL) and Amazon (AMZN) are getting ready to report quarterly results on Thursday after the markets close. Jefferies senior analyst Brent Thill and Yahoo Finance Technology Editor Dan Howley join Market Catalysts with Julie Hyman to discuss Meta's artificial intelligence (AI) capital expenditure (CapEx) spending and whether the numbers are showing a return on investment (ROI) yet. Something else I want to point out that you and I were talking about this morning and that Laura Martin of Needham pointed out is the relative spending of these various companies, right? The capex. And I think the point that she's making with respect to meta in particular on which she is neutral equivalent rated is that if you look at something like capex to sales. In other words, how much these companies are spending relative to their size, the size of their revenue. Meta is a lot higher than the others in terms of the amount of what it's bringing in that's going out the door for this stuff. And she's really questioning the rationale of meta on that front. Now, the noise on that has gotten a lot quieter with regard to to meta, right? But you know, it's interesting that she's still bringing up that point. Yeah, and look, you know, I was just pulling up meta's market cap. Uh they're going continue to spend as I said on the data centers as well as the people they're building out this data center. That's like, I don't know, they overlayed it on an outline of Manhattan and it takes up a huge chunk of the city itself. Not gonna obviously land in Manhattan. It's gonna be somewhere else in the country. I think Tennessee or around there. Uh but their market cap is 1.96 trillion right now. Microsoft seemed to indicate that they were going to be slowing a bit on their capex, whereas meta is saying, look, we're we're going all in. We we're we're doing AI for ourselves. Uh we're doing you know, open source. So it seems to indicate that they're not going to be open sourcing all of their their AI models going forward. And then they have obviously the the consumer business as far as hardware goes. So they they continue to to lay these out. But you're right. It does seem a little misbalanced when you look at, okay, Microsoft is, you know, powering these data centers, using them for enterprises with, you know, thousands of people and then consumers as well. And then meta is, you know, offering up its services to advertisers, but then, you know, regular folks who are on reels and, you know, scrolling through, I don't know, whatever, food or, you know, people's vacations or my very basic, you know, pictures of beer and food and video games. Um it does feel strange. Yeah, yes. And so Brent, let's go back to you on this. I think we have you back. Maybe. Hopefully. There he is. There he is. Um so we were just talking about um a point that one of your peers on the street brought up, which is sort of meta's capex relative to its revenue and that it's higher than pretty much all of these other companies. Does that concern you at all? No, because they're in the consumer world and they're monetizing this. If you think about what happened, meta's head count is actually down from the peak. And so they're generating accelerating revenue and profits despite all these investments with fewer people. So what does that tell you about AI? It's working. They drove in the quarter 9% price increase in advertising and it's because of AI. So the capex number I think is just getting completely overblown, which is like, if you're spending the money, you're getting the return, who cares what they spend? And last night we raised our capex number for the industry, and just in the last week, we've raised Google, meta, and Microsoft by 50 plus billion dollars. And what what I'd say is you're seeing this in the numbers, Microsoft accelerating Azure, improving operating margin. Any hood, the CFO Microsoft gave you operating margin improvement for the last two years in the face of AI. Meta just gave you accelerating revenue growth and improving margin, uh with fewer head counts and it's because of AI. So the point is like, who cares what you're spending as long as your bookings and the revenue growth and the margins are going higher and that's what's happening. So I think there's just, you know, again, I I understand that there the number one question I get from our investors, which are institutional investors are feels like railroad companies. Like we're putting these railroad tracks in, we don't know when the ROI is coming. That's not true. You see the ROI today. The numbers are very clear. And they and if people listen, you're you're hearing it. Anyhood has said this. AI margins are higher than cloud. What does that tell you? So I I again, I I don't know, I I don't know how to be, you know, more crystal clear. Revenue, margins, building, accelerating in the face of all these investments. And by the way, we're literally at the beginning of this wave, we're not at the end of it. And so, again, I I I think in many of the past cycles we've been in, it takes longer for this to happen. Cloud took a long time. Internet took time. We've lived through these cycles. This cycle's happening faster. You know, by the way, every CEO from JP Morgan to the CEO of Mettronic to the CEO of United Airlines to you go through it. Every CEO including our own CEO, we're all being asked at Jeffries to embrace AI. And if we don't, um there's big consequences. consequences. So I don't think this is um a question of is this paying off or not. I think it's pretty clear it's paying off and you're seeing it already in the numbers.
