'Resolute, Steadfast': 16 BSF Jawans Awarded Gallantry Medals For Exceptional Bravery In Op Sindoor
Despite sustaining life-threatening wounds, these jawans remained conscious, continued their mission, and motivated fellow soldiers.
On the occasion of the Independence Day, this year, 16 Brave BSF jawans have been honoured with the prestigious Medal for Gallantry for their 'conspicuous bravery & unmatched valour" during the high-risk Operation Sindoor.
In a statement, the BSF said, 'This Independence Day, 16 Brave Seema Praharis are being awarded Gallantry Medals for their conspicuous bravery and unmatched valour, for being resolute and steadfast during the Op Sindoor."
During Operation Sindoor, Sub Inspector Vyas Dev and Constable Suddi Rabha of the 7th Battalion BSF were stationed at forward posts on the International Border in Jammu. They were tasked with replenishing ammunition to forward troops when an enemy 82 mm mortar shell exploded nearby, inflicting grievous injuries on both.
SI Vyas Dev, despite sustaining life-threatening wounds that led to the amputation of his left leg, remained conscious, continued his mission, and motivated fellow soldiers. Constable Suddi Rabha, suffering severe blast trauma and deep lacerations, stood steadfast beside his commander, refusing to yield. In recognition of their gallantry, both were awarded the Medal for Gallantry.
At BOP Kharkola in Jammu, Abhishek Srivastav, AC (under training), along with Head Constable Brij Mohan Singh, Constables Bhupendra Bajpai, Rajan Kumar, Basavaraja Shivappa Sunkada, and Depeswar Barman, came under heavy Pakistani shelling and drone attacks between May 7 and 10, 2025. Despite injuries, the team retaliated effectively. Srivastav, showing disregard for his own safety, evacuated his wounded comrades under intense fire.
Another gallant act came from Ravindra Rathore, Deputy Commandant, along with Inspector Devi Lal, Head Constable Sahib Singh, and Constable Kanwaraj Singh, who executed a daring rescue of a BSF jawan under enemy fire on the International Border.
In the Jammu Sector's BOP Jabowal, ASI (GD) Udai Vir Singh of 120 Bn BSF displayed extraordinary courage by destroying a Pakistani surveillance camera during heavy shelling on May 10, 2025. Even after sustaining a shrapnel wound to the face, he refused evacuation and went on to neutralize an enemy heavy machine gun nest.
At FDL Mukhyari, Alok Negi, Assistant Commandant, 53 Bn BSF, along with Constables Kandarpa Chowdhury and Waghmare Bhawan Deoram, withstood sustained enemy mortar and MMG fire from May 7 to 10, 2025. They executed precise retaliatory strikes that blunted enemy positions and ensured zero casualties.
The BSF praised these acts, stating that their 'conspicuous valour, presence of mind and selfless commitment" were instrumental in safeguarding the nation's borders during one of the fiercest episodes of cross-border hostilities in recent years.

Girl kidnapped after Independence Day fete, rescued within hours in Prakasam
ONGOLE: A13-year-old girl from Cheemakurthy was kidnapped by a man seeking to recover loan money from her father, but thanks to the swift action of the Prakasam police, she was rescued within two hours and safely reunited with her family. Accused R Eswar Reddy (33), a resident of Tirupati, abducted the Class 8 student of Vidyaniketan School shortly after she attended Independence Day celebrations at her school on Friday. Around 12:30 pm, he approached the girl outside the school, offered to drop her home after buying sweets, and then diverted his bike towards the Nellore highway. A short while later, the kidnapper called the girl's father and issued a chilling ultimatum: repay the outstanding loan immediately or risk the life of his daughter. Shocked by the threat, the parents rushed to the Cheemakurthy police station. Upon receiving the report, Prakasam District Superintendent of Police (SP) AR Damodar sprang into action, treating the case as a top priority. He also mobilised special teams across Prakasam and Nellore districts, ordered vehicle checks at all checkpoints, and deployed search units to track the suspect. Using mobile phone tracing and CCTV footage, police identified the accused near Kavali town with the girl on his bike. He was intercepted and taken into custody. Both were brought back to Ongole, where SP Damodar and other officers formally handed over the girl to her parents at around 7:00 pm.

Trust the Indian Armed Forces: Col Qureshi, 2 officers share insights on KBC special
New Delhi: Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, wing commander Vyomika Singh, and commander Prerna Deosthalee offered a glimpse into Operation Sindoor — India's counterterror mission after the April 22 Pahalgam attack — during a special episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati on Friday. A special episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati was aired on Friday. 'We attacked in the interiors of the enemy to break their backs. Twenty-one terror camps were recognised. Nine camps were finalised, and the game was done in 25 minutes,' wing commander Singh said, detailing the precision strikes that crippled terrorist infrastructure. Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, targeted nine terrorist infrastructure sites across Pakistan and PoK. Several terrorists were eliminated in precision strikes carried out by Indian armed forces. Explaining the targets, Colonel Qureshi said, 'Bahawalpur was the headquarters of the Jaish-e-Mohammed, from where terrorists who attacked Pathankot and Pahalgam were trained; Muridke had the headquarters of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, where Ajmal Kasab and David Headley were trained. Therefore, we had to destroy those places.' Qureshi added that Pakistan had sent 300–400 drones, both armed and unarmed. 'They sent unarmed drones to scan India's weapon and defence capability around the Line of Control and the international border. But the army air defence successfully disabled their attempts,' she said. Outlining the navy's role, commander Deosthalee said, 'The navy was battle-ready. We managed the trade routes to stabilise the economy and also ensured deterrence, as a dual job. We also protected the maritime borders, as there were anti-national elements that entered in the past. Being part of this mission is a matter of pride and honour.' Deosthalee, who described naval warfare as '360 degrees of uncertainty with no room for error in the middle of the endless sea without borders,' said, 'When we strike, we strike in a manner that the enemy would remember forever.' The officers credited local residents for their role in the rescue efforts following the Pahalgam attack and recalled the bravery displayed, despite the loss of navy officer Vinay Narwal. Highlighting women's role in Operation Sindoor, Qureshi said that over 100 women are trained on par with their male counterparts. 'This enabled them to handle the operations seamlessly,' she added. 'A weapon or a fighter aircraft doesn't distinguish between males and females,' Singh said. 'You have to trust the Indian armed forces; whenever there will be any attack on the country, we have given a stern message to Pakistan and we will keep on doing it in the future,' Qureshi said. Qureshi said Operation Sindoor reflects a whole-of-nation approach involving the government and armed forces. 'We are a peace-loving nation and want to live in synergy with our neighbours. Our next-gen tech weapons were so advanced now that we made the operation possible without any civilian fatalities,' she added.
