Know the 16 BSF bravehearts getting gallantry medals for Operation Sindoor

Constable Suddi Rabha, equally resolute and courageous, stood shoulder to shoulder with his commander, SI Vyas Dev, during the critical ammunition replenishment operation. He sustained severe blast trauma, including deep lacerations in the perineal region, injuries to the thighs, the left leg, and the right ankle. Despite the immense pain and life-threatening wounds, constable Suddi Rabha refused to yield and completed the mission. In response to Pakistan's retaliation following Operation Sindoor, ASI Udai Vir Singh of 120 BSF's 120 battalion displayed exemplary courage during a heavy assault on BOP Jabowal, Jammu Sector, on May 10. On the night of May 9-10, Pakistani troops launched a coordinated assault on BOPs Karotana Khurd, Karotana Forward, and Suchetgarh of 165 Bn BSF. These posts came under intense 82 mm mortar and machine gun fire from Pakistani positions- Jamshed Malane and Kasira. BSF troops retaliated with precision fire. ASI Rajappa B T and Constable Manohar Xalxo showed exemplary courage in an ammunition replenishment mission to BOP Karotana Khurd on the morning of May 10. Assistant commandant Alok Negi of the 53 Bn BSF, along with constables Kandarpa Chowdhury and Waghmare Bhawan Deora, displayed exceptional courage during intense enemy fire at FDL Mukhyari from May 7 to 10.

Independence Day: 1,090 police medals announced; 16 BSF soldiers honoured for gallantry in Operation Sindoor
Independence Day: On the eve of the 79th Independence Day, the Centre has announced service medals for 1,090 police personnel of several central and state forces. 233 personnel have been awarded the Medal for Gallantry (GM), 99 personnel awarded President's Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) and 758 have been decorated with the Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM), said a statement by the Union Home Ministry on Thursday. The ministry said the awards include medals for fire, home guard and civil defence, and correctional services personnel. Among the gallantry medals, the maximum 152 have been awarded to personnel undertaking operations in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), followed by 54 for troops deployed in anti-Naxal operations, 3 for duties in the North-East and 24 from other regions. The statement also said that four fire service personnel and one home guard and civil defence official have also been named for the gallantry medal. The gallantry medal is awarded on the grounds of a rare, conspicuous act of bravery, in saving life and property or in preventing crime or in arresting criminals, while the President's Medal for Distinguished Service is awarded for a special distinguished record in service and the Medal for Meritorious Service for valuable service characterised by resource and devotion to duty. In a statement, the BSF said, 'This Independence Day, 16 Brave Seema Praharis are being awarded Gallantry Medals for their conspicuous bravery and unmatched valour, for being resolute and steadfast during the Op Sindoor." During Operation Sindoor, Sub Inspector Vyas Dev and Constable Suddi Rabha of the 7th Battalion BSF were stationed at forward posts on the International Border in Jammu. They were tasked with replenishing ammunition to forward troops when an enemy 82 mm mortar shell exploded nearby, inflicting grievous injuries on both. SI Vyas Dev, despite sustaining life-threatening wounds that led to the amputation of his left leg, remained conscious, continued his mission, and motivated fellow soldiers. Constable Suddi Rabha, suffering severe blast trauma and deep lacerations, stood steadfast beside his commander, refusing to yield. In recognition of their gallantry, both were awarded the Medal for Gallantry. At BOP Kharkola in Jammu, Abhishek Srivastav, AC (under training), along with Head Constable Brij Mohan Singh, Constables Bhupendra Bajpai, Rajan Kumar, Basavaraja Shivappa Sunkada, and Depeswar Barman, came under heavy Pakistani shelling and drone attacks between May 7 and 10, 2025. Despite injuries, the team retaliated effectively. Srivastav, showing disregard for his own safety, evacuated his wounded comrades under intense fire. Another gallant act came from Ravindra Rathore, Deputy Commandant, along with Inspector Devi Lal, Head Constable Sahib Singh, and Constable Kanwaraj Singh, who executed a daring rescue of a BSF jawan under enemy fire on the International Border. In the Jammu Sector's BOP Jabowal, ASI (GD) Udai Vir Singh of 120 Bn BSF displayed extraordinary courage by destroying a Pakistani surveillance camera during heavy shelling on May 10, 2025. Even after sustaining a shrapnel wound to the face, he refused evacuation and went on to neutralize an enemy heavy machine gun nest. At FDL Mukhyari, Alok Negi, Assistant Commandant, 53 Bn BSF, along with Constables Kandarpa Chowdhury and Waghmare Bhawan Deoram, withstood sustained enemy mortar and MMG fire from May 7 to 10, 2025. They executed precise retaliatory strikes that blunted enemy positions and ensured zero casualties. The BSF praised these acts, stating that their 'conspicuous valour, presence of mind and selfless commitment" were instrumental in safeguarding the nation's borders during one of the fiercest episodes of cross-border hostilities in recent years.
