During Operation Sindoor, BSF sub-inspector Vyas Dev and constable Suddi Rabha were deployed in the forward posts of 7th BN BSF on the International border in the Jammu area, and they were detailed for replenishment of ammunition to forward troops. As they were performing this risk-prone mission, an enemy 82 mortar shell suddenly exploded near them, causing grievous multiple splinter injuries to both.

Despite the devastating nature of his injuries, which had caused him to suffer life-threatening injuries, SI Vyas Dev remained conscious, stabilised himself, bravely engaged in his given task, motivated his fellow soldiers and exhibited tremendous courage. He later underwent traumatic amputation of his left leg at the military Hospital, Jammu.
Constable Suddi Rabha, equally resolute and courageous, stood shoulder to shoulder with his commander, SI Vyas Dev, during the critical ammunition replenishment operation. He sustained severe blast trauma, including deep lacerations in the perineal region, injuries to the thighs, the left leg, and the right ankle. Despite the immense pain and life-threatening wounds, constable Suddi Rabha refused to yield and completed the mission.
The other 14 bravehearts of Operation Sindoor who got the gallantry medal
14 other security personnel have been awarded the gallantry medals for their exceptional courage during Operation Sindoor. Assistant commandant Abhishek Srivastav, along with head constable Brij Mohan Singh, constables Bhpendra Bajpai, Rajan Kumar, Basavaraja Shivappa Sunkada and constable Depeswar Barman have been awarded the medals for their actions on May 7-8 and May 10 under the able command of SI Mohammad Imtiyaz.
For exhibiting exceptional courage and operational brilliance under intense pressure during Operation Sindoor, deputy commandant Ravindra Rathore and his team, who successfully implemented an operation on the International Border for the safety of a BSF jawan whose life was in peril, have also been awarded the gallantry medal.
In response to Pakistan's retaliation following Operation Sindoor, ASI Udai Vir Singh of 120 BSF's 120 battalion displayed exemplary courage during a heavy assault on BOP Jabowal, Jammu Sector, on May 10.
On the night of May 9-10, Pakistani troops launched a coordinated assault on BOPs Karotana Khurd, Karotana Forward, and Suchetgarh of 165 Bn BSF. These posts came under intense 82 mm mortar and machine gun fire from Pakistani positions- Jamshed Malane and Kasira. BSF troops retaliated with precision fire.
ASI Rajappa B T and Constable Manohar Xalxo showed exemplary courage in an ammunition replenishment mission to BOP Karotana Khurd on the morning of May 10.
Assistant commandant Alok Negi of the 53 Bn BSF, along with constables Kandarpa Chowdhury and Waghmare Bhawan Deora, displayed exceptional courage during intense enemy fire at FDL Mukhyari from May 7 to 10.

Jan Vishwas 2.0: Centre set to table decriminalisation bill in Lok Sabha. Here are five things to look out for
The central government is set to table the Jan Vishwas 2.0 bill in front of the Lok Sabha on Monday, 18 August 2025, as the nation is looking to amend several laws and bring in the new concept of decriminalisation by introducing an 'improvement notice' instead of a penalty for an offence, reported the news portal Indian Express on Saturday, 16 August 2025. Earlier this week, the Union Cabinet of India cleared the Jan Vishwas 2.0 bill which is aiming to decriminalise and rationalise the punishment of offences based on a trust basis governance for the ease of doing business. 'In our country, there are such laws that can put people in jail for very small things — you would be shocked. No one has really paid attention to them. I have been pursuing this, because these unnecessary laws that put our country's citizens behind bars should be abolished. We had introduced a Bill in Parliament earlier, and we have brought it again this time,' said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his 79th Independence Day speech. 1. Improvement notice — In the Jan Vishwas 2.0 bill, the centre has proposed to introduce a concept of an 'improvement notice' instead of a penalty for a first time offender. In the Budget 2025 announcement, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced that the government will bring the Jan Vishwas 2.0 this year, though which the Centre aims to decriminalise more than 180 legal provisions. "In the Jan Vishwas Act 2023, more than 180 legal provisions were decriminalised. Our government will now bring up the Jan Vishwas Bill 2.0 to decriminalise more than 100 provisions in various laws," said Sitharaman in the Budget speech. 2. Shift of approach — The proposed bill bring forth a shift of approach of the central government moving from a 'penalise on first detection' approach of the Jan Vishwas 1.0 which was imposed as a law in 2023, into a 'inform–correct–penalise' approach soon to be mandated as the law. Through this move, the government aims to promote the ease of doing business and trust-based regulation while maintaining deterrence for repeated violations, a person aware of the development told the news portal. 3. No penalty on first offence — According to the proposed bill, the first time offenders will not be charged any penalty for their offence and will be served an opportunity to rectify their non-compliance withing a pre-set period. 4. Increasing subsequent fines — In case an entity becomes a repeat offender, the penalties will start to be applicable from the second offence onwards. According to the news portal's report, the penalty which will be applicable will be the same as it was for the first offence in Jan Vishwas 1.0. The proposal also mandates that the fines charged will increase for the subsequent offences subject to a maximum cap depending on the sections. 5. Changes via Jan Vishwas 1.0 — According to the Jan Vishwas Act of 2023, in efforts to decriminalise several offences under various laws, the Indian government removed the Section 41 of the Food Corporations Act, 1964 which punished imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or a fine of ₹ 1,000, or both in case of a using FCI's name in any prospectus or advertisement without its consent in writing. Another case was when the Jan Vishwas Act removed the 6-month imprisonment penalty for tree felling or damage caused by cattle in protected forests; they have however, kept ₹ 500 as a fine for the same in efforts to decriminalise.

Strengthen BSF on Bangladesh border: Assam Congress to Amit Shah
The Assam unit of Congress has urged Home Minister Amit Shah to strengthen the security measures along the State's border with Bangladesh amid increasing cases of infiltration. Debabrata Saikia, the Leader of the Opposition in the 126-member State Assembly, expressed concern over the pushback operations by the Assam police since May. Also read: Assam pushed back 330 'illegal immigrants' into Bangladesh: Himanta Biswa Sarma 'While the State government has repeatedly acknowledged the deportation of undocumented Bangladeshi nationals, the situation raises serious questions about the effectiveness of existing border management frameworks and coordination between agencies,' he wrote in a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday (August 16, 2025). Mr. Saikia said the Assam Government announced the new pushback strategy on May 10, reportedly sending more than 300 Bangladeshi nationals who entered the country illegally back by August 3. 'These recurring operations, despite the deployment of the Border Security Force (BSF) along the 267.5 km stretch of the Assam-Bangladesh border, suggest that infiltration continues to be a serious challenge,' he wrote. He sought an assessment of the effectiveness of BSF deployment and resource allocation in a difficult terrain, reducing the gap in coordination between Central and State agencies as evident from the involvement of the Assam police in direct pushback, and addressing possible legal and diplomatic complications arising from State-level pushback conducted without the processes through the Foreigners Tribunals. Mr. Saikia advised Mr. Shah to strengthen the BSF, increase coordination protocols among security agencies, utilise technology-driven border surveillance systems more effectively, and engage with Bangladesh proactively to address the root causes of infiltration. The Congress leader submitted the letter hours after the Assam police pushed back 21 Bangladeshi nationals, including women, who entered the Sribhumi district illegally. The political parties and NGOs also drew the attention of the Centre to the attacks by alleged Naga miscreants on three Assamese youths near the Assam-Nagaland border on August 15. The incident happened near the Merapani area of eastern Assam's Golaghat district. The three youths — Simsat Basumatary, Subrata Nayak, and Prakash Boro — were attacked while returning from a picnic spot across the border in Nagaland. One of the three sustained a gunshot wound. Officials in the Golaghat district said three suspects were arrested by the Nagaland Police and Central Reserve Police Force personnel in a joint operation.
