Presidency University in Bengaluru showcases innovation in design education
Over 250 students from the Bachelor of Design and B.Sc. Multimedia programmes participated in the event, which offered a curated exhibition of over 300 projects, including product prototypes, system designs, fashion collections, multimedia installations, and visual narratives.
Work from all four years of study was represented, providing a comprehensive view of the developmental arc of student learning — from foundational exploration to advanced conceptual execution.
The format of the event encouraged students not only to display their work but also to explain their design processes, receive constructive critique, and engage in meaningful dialogue with faculty, visiting professionals, parents, and peers.
Experiential Week extended beyond static displays. A series of workshops and talks facilitated knowledge-sharing and skill development. Highlights included a seminar on Innovation Clusters led by Carlos and Sugat Das from IED Milan, which addressed collaborative design ecosystems and their potential in the Indian context.
The week concluded with a curated runway-style showcase featuring design collections from eight emerging fashion designers.

Tiger carcass found in Sundarbans
Kolkata: A tiger was found dead in the Sundarbans on Friday — the first reported mortality of a big cat from the Indian part of the mangroves since 2021. Tiger deaths in the Sundarbans go undetected due to the challenging terrain. According to officials, the carcass was found near Bonnie Camp, a popular tourist spot in the South 24 Parganas forest division, on Friday morning by the department staff. Nisha Goswami, the divisional forest officer, said that the tiger had probably died of old age. Sources said the tiger was seen by the staff in the forest near the camp water body a few days before its death. The last tiger death officially reported from the Indian Sundarbans, as per National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) data, was that of a male tiger in May 30, 2021, at Harikhali inside the tiger reserve. The reserve-wise tiger mortality data on NTCA website revealed that between 2012 and 2024, seven tiger deaths were reported from the Sundarbans. According to sources, NTCA treats all tiger deaths as unnatural unless proven otherwise with solid evidence, such as histopathological and forensic assessments, photographs, and circumstantial evidence. INS Rana and INS Jyoti arrive in Colombo for ‘SLINEX-25'
Visakhapatnam: Indian Naval Ships INS Rana (a guided missile destroyer) and INS Jyoti (a fleet tanker) are participating in the 12th edition of Sri Lanka India Naval Exercise (SLINEX-25) scheduled till August 18. The SLINEX maritime exercise exemplifies the deep engagement between India and Sri Lanka, which has strengthened cooperation in the maritime domain in consonance with India's policy of Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth across Regions (MAHASAGAR). Conceptualised in 2005, 'SLINEX', a bilateral naval exercise has strengthened maritime cooperation between the two nations over two decades. SLINEX aims at enhancing interoperability, maritime cooperation and exchanging best practices while jointly undertaking multi-faceted maritime operations. The previous edition of the SLINEX was conducted in Visakhapatnam last December. The exercise is conducted in two phases – the harbour phase in Colombo from August 14 to 16, followed by the sea phase slated from August 17 to 18. SLNS Gajabahu and Vijayabahu (both advanced offshore patrol vessels) will be representing the Sri Lankan Navy, while Special Forces of both the navies will also be featured in the bilateral exercise. During the harbour phase, professional interactions, subject matter expert exchange (SMEE), sharing of best practices, cultural and social exchanges along with yoga sessions and sporting events are included. They aim to further bolster the bonds of friendship and camaraderie between both the navies. Gunnery firing serials, communication protocols, navigation, seamanship evolutions, visit board search and seizure (VBSS) and fuelling at sea form a part of the naval drills during the sea phase.

An IndiGo Airbus A321 (VT-ICM) aircraft on Saturday suffered a tail strike while executing a low-altitude go-around at the Mumbai airport amid heavy rainfall. The aircraft attempted another approach and landed safely at about 3 am. The flight, 6E 1060, was arriving from Bangkok. IndiGo Spokesperson says, "On August 16, 2025, an IndiGo Airbus A321 aircraft tail touched the runway while executing a low-altitude go-around due to unfavourable weather conditions in Mumbai. Thereafter, the aircraft carried out another approach and landed safely. The regulator had found 'systemic deficiencies pertaining to operations, training procedures and engineering procedures'. According to aviation website Skybrary, "A tail strike occurs when the aft fuselage (tail) of an aeroplane comes in contact with the runway during either takeoff or landing. Statistically, the majority of tail strikes occur on landing. Tail strikes most often occur as a result of human error although environmental factors, such as strong gusty winds, can increase the potential for an event."
