Tom Cruise ‘Working on' Potential Sequels for ‘Top Gun' and ‘Days of Thunder'
Tom Cruise may be 62 years old, but he has a motor capable of holding its own with anyone in the film industry. Not only does he continue to do all of his own stunts, but based on early clips from the upcoming Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning movie, he's somehow managed to make them even crazier.
While many believe this movie will be Cruise's final act in the Mission: Impossible franchise, the question becomes, what's next for him? Not surprisingly, Cruise is already two steps ahead on that front.
During an interview with the Australian show Today, he was asked whether Top Gun 3 was "on the horizon," as Comicbook.com revealed.
Cruise confirmed he's "working on" a Top Gun sequel and revealed there's also much more being kicked around. Specifically, Cruise referenced a sequel to the 1990 racing film Days of Thunder, putting it in the same current phase as Top Gun.
'Yeah, we're thinking and talking about many different stories and what could we do and what's possible,' said Cruise. 'It took me 35 years to figure out Top Gun: Maverick, so all of these things we're working on, we're discussing Days of Thunder and Top Gun: Maverick."
Cruise added that multiple other films are also being worked on, sparking plenty of intrigue about what fans could see Cruise in next.
"There's numerous other films that we're actively working on right now. I'm always shooting a film, prepping a film, posting a film," Cruise explained.
"I just finished a film with Alejandro Iñárritu too, who did The Revenant, that was an extraordinary experience and [Christopher McQuarrie] and I are always working on several different films.'
It sounds as though there are several next steps Cruise could consider. Regardless, his update on Top Gun should give fans reason for optimism.

The wind hitting him, and the blast of the propeller, particles hitting him. It was the hardest workout you could ever do, it was very dangerous and very exhausting for him. Many times we were carrying him off the wing because he was so tired. And he was flying all day.' Eastwood has worked alongside Cruise since 2013 when they met on the set of Edge of Tomorrow. Eastwood said of Cruise's appetite for risk and doing his own stunts: 'Tom doesn't show fear, Tom shows competence. He had fun during all his stunts, even when it was exhausting. He's always positive, he'll always put on a smile, and he genuinely enjoys it.' Eastwood has served as stunt coordinator on the last four Mission:Impossible films and recalls his favourite moment of all, which came in the seventh film Dead Reckoning Part One – Cruise rode off a cliff-edge on a motorbike. Eastwood revealed that the actor had trained for over a year in motocross and skydiving to perform the stunt, which involved more than 500 skydives and 13,000 motocross jumps. Asked if Cruise would soon retire from such physical demands, Eastwood demurred: 'No, no chance. He's a machine. He acts like a 20-year-old. And there's no magic there, it's just hard work and discipline with his food, nutrition and training.' To wit: Disney's Lilo & Stitch added $113.1M from 52 offshore markets, lifting the international box office cume to $330.7M. The overseas drop was just 28%. The worldwide total through today is $610.8M. Notable holds this frame include France (0%), Germany (-12%), UK (-28%), Australia (-29%), Brazil (-34%), Spain (-36%), Mexico (-40%), Korea (-44%) and Italy (-46%). Some markets saw increases, including Netherlands (+21%), Belgium (+13%), Saudi Arabia (+8%), Poland (+7%), Singapore (+3%) and Ukraine (+1%). New this session was Hong Kong ($1.1M), where the little blue alien opened at No. 1 and 4% ahead of The Minecraft Movie. This is a market that typically gravitates towards the franchise, but has been wonky of late with Hollywood fare. So, great news that The Final Reckoning became the highest-grossing imported film on a single day this year, and the fastest imported film to reach the RMB 100M mark in 2025. The gross there is a strong $25.2M while social scores are the highest of the franchise. The Top 5 markets to date are: China ($25.2M), UK ($22.3M), Japan ($18.5M), Korea ($17M) and France ($14.2M). Elsewhere, New Line/Warner Bros' Final Destination Bloodlines landed with another $14.4M from 75 offshore markets, a strong 37% drop from last weekend. The international running total is $117.6M through Sunday with worldwide at $229.3M. The Top 5 are: UK ($12.5M), Mexico ($11.2M), India ($7.6M), Philippines ($6.9M) and France ($6.7M). The film has also become the biggest horror movie of all time in Pakistan, and the 4th best ever there for a WB title.
