Now get 15% off on MSRTC bus tickets with advance booking

Indian Express01-07-2025
Passengers travelling over 150 km on Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses are now eligible for a 15 per cent fare cut if they book tickets in advance. The scheme, which is only for full-fare tickets and not for concessional tickets, was rolled out on Tuesday.
According to the MSRTC, the scheme will be applicable all year round, except for peak seasons like Diwali and summer vacation.
Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, who is also chairman of the MSRTC, initially announced the decision on June 1, which was the 77th foundation day of the transport corporation. The step is intended to promote advance booking and enhance operational planning during off-peak times. The reduction will apply to all kinds of buses operated by the MSRTC, but only for full-fare paying passengers.
The scheme will also be implemented during the upcoming Ashadhi Ekadashi and Ganesh festival seasons. Passengers on ordinary MSRTC buses going to Pandharpur for Ashadhi Ekadashi and going to Konkan for the Ganesh festival can avail of the 15 per cent fare concession with advance booking. However, the concession will not be available for additional buses operated to meet festival demand.
The e-Shivneri service, running between Pune and Mumbai, also falls under the scheme. To enjoy the facility, passengers need to book their tickets in advance either from MSRTC's booking counters, through the official website, or through the MSRTC app.
Sarnaik has urged eligible passengers to avail of the scheme where possible. While the measure is aimed at encouraging planning and providing some travel cost relief, it will also enable the MSRTC to maximise its services during off-peak times.

Rs 50,000-cr worth GST compensation, Rs 8,000 cr under RDF pending: Punjab Finance Minister slams Centre

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema on Thursday hit out at the central government for not releasing Punjab's share of GST compensation worth Rs 50,000 crore besides withholding Rs 8,000 crore under the Rural Development Fund (RDF). Cheema made the remarks while talking to the media in Delhi as he went to attend the GST Group of Ministers (GoM) meeting. He said that GST had inflicted a Rs 1.11 lakh crore loss on Punjab, with the Centre releasing only Rs 60,000 crore so far, while over Rs 50,000 crore and an additional Rs 8,000 crore under the RDF remained withheld. Slamming the GST, the Punjab Finance Minister stressed that the state would not have suffered such massive revenue losses had it not joined the 'One Nation-One Tax' scheme and in fact it would have received much more revenue. With the compensation cess now scrapped, he called out the BJP government for deliberately wrecking state economies to make them beg before the Centre. 'We honoured the central government's decision (on GST) and stood with the country, but Punjab suffered for it. Along with Punjab, many other states also suffered.' 'On August 20–21, the GoM met continuously for two days. On Wednesday, the meeting was on life and health insurance. In the evening, a meeting was held on compensation cess. The Chairman told us that today the meeting was on rate rationalisation, and that all members of the compensation cess would participate. Therefore, we also participated in Thursday's meeting,' he said. 'GST was implemented in 2017. In the past eight years, there have been 27 amendments in GST, with exemptions given to different sectors. Fifteen times the GST rates of various goods were reduced. This practice has been continuing in the GST Council for the last eight years, and for the past three years I have been witnessing it myself.' Cheema also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier declared that there would be two GST slabs — one at 5 per cent and another at 12 per cent — and that 'everyone would celebrate Diwali'. 'But after the GST came, who will compensate for the loss suffered by Punjab and other states? Who will pay for this damage? One Nation, One Tax was the scheme of the central government, and all states including Punjab gave their consent. Everyone agreed that uniform tax rates should prevail across the country so that no state could impose higher or lower taxes on its citizens. But this formula has inflicted a huge loss on Punjab.' Emphasising on Punjab's loss, the Finance Minister said, 'In all three meetings of the GST Group of Ministers, I placed Punjab's position. So far, Punjab has lost Rs 1,11,045 crore. Out of this, the central government has given Rs 60,000 crore compensation, but still Rs 50,000 crore remains with the central government. Who will pay this money?' Cheema also said ever since the GST has been introduced, the BJP-led central government has kept making one amendment after another, but never reached a conclusion. 'Taxpayers of the country are being harassed continuously. The system of the country is being destroyed. Several states are continuously losing revenue due to the GST system. The central government has backed away from making up for this loss.' Detailing the latest discussions, Cheema said, 'In Thursday's meeting on compensation cess, the government said that the loans taken to pay states under compensation cess would be fully repaid by October. On harmful goods (sin goods), a special tax was imposed. The states suffering losses in its collection were being compensated. But now the report of the rate rationalisation committee shows that even the tax slab on sin goods is being reduced.' The Finance Minister also claimed that two days ago, another Rs 1,000 crore under the Prime Minister Road Scheme was also stopped. 'In this way, nearly Rs 60,000 crore is pending with the central government against Punjab. This includes the Rs 50,000-crore revenue loss (Punjab faced) after the (implementation of) GST. The central government must immediately release Rs 60,000 crore,' he concluded.

Resolve problems of traders on priority, DM directs officials

Kanpur: District magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh on Thursday convened a meeting of Vyapar Bandhu and instructed officials to resolve the problems of traders on priority. A total of 14 cases were placed before the committee, out of which eight were resolved on the spot in the presence of officials and representatives. During the meeting, trade leaders unanimously proposed that in view of the Diwali festival, a special two-hour cleanliness drive should be conducted in the city's main markets every Saturday starting from the first week of Sept. They said the campaign titled Clean, Clean, Beautiful Kanpur would be run with the cooperation of the district administration, Kanpur Municipal Corporation, and local citizens. The DM assured the business community that the administration would extend all necessary assistance to make this campaign successful. For women's convenience, traders highlighted the need for pink toilets in major markets such as Shastri Nagar and Gumti No. 5. Taking the matter seriously, the district magistrate directed the municipal corporation to select suitable sites within seven days. He emphasized that this was an important issue directly related to public interest and there should be no negligence in its implementation. Traffic management in commercial areas was also discussed. Officials informed that traffic signboards and information boards were being installed as per requirements in all zones of the city. Signboards regarding no-parking zones, one-way traffic, areas restricted for heavy vehicles, and prohibition of vehicle movement in the opposite direction have been placed at various spots. In addition, traffic-related information is being continuously conveyed to the general public through different mass media platforms to ensure better compliance. Another issue raised was the removal of an electricity pole standing in front of the Vikas Nagar depot. The DM instructed the assistant engineer of Kesco to take necessary action within 24 hours. CM puts Ponda market building eviction on hold once again

Ponda: Chief minister Pramod Sawant has put on hold a 72-hour-eviction notice issued by the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) to the occupants of shops in its dilapidated fish market building. Despite the CM's intervention, power supply to the building was cut on Thursday morning. Gharu Sawant, who is leading the traders, said that the CM has given them relief by holding the PMC eviction notice. 'We have assured the chief minister that we will voluntarily vacate the premises on Sep 7, after Ganesh festival. We had even told the PMC the same thing and they agreed to it. However, we are not aware what happened suddenly to issue this notice hastily,' Gharu told reporters. This is the second time in two and a half months that the CM has put an eviction notice on hold. Traders at Ponda's dilapidated fish market building had received temporary relief for the first time on July 9 as their eviction was delayed following Sawant's intervention. In both cases, the PMC had issued eviction notices giving traders 72 hours to vacate the premises. This time the notice was issued on Wednesday evening and after that the traders met Sawant. The PMC plans to relocate the traders to the adjacent market complex, but it hasn't allotted spaces, Gharu said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Seniors Born 1939-1969 Receive 16 Benefits This Month If They Ask Super Saving Online Undo The traders currently occupy the upper floor of the market building, which was constructed in 1984. The structure is leaning towards the nullah and could collapse at any time, said council officials. The PMC aims to demolish the old building. Fish vendors from the market building have already relocated to a new location on May 15. The traders have shown reluctance to shift before Ganesh Chaturthi as they get more business during the festival. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
