‘We came here and delivered' – Bayern upbeat after Super Cup win

Bayern Munich are confident for the start of the Bundesliga after a short pre-season by winning the German Super Cup 2-1 at VfB Stuttgart for an early statement.
'We came here and delivered,' coach Vincent Kompany said, with midfielder Joshua Kimmich adding: 'Today it was about a title but also showing that we're here.'
Harry Kane opened the scoring and newly-signed Luis Diaz got the second but Bundesliga champions Bayern also needed several big saves from goalkeeper Manuel Neuer before German Cup winners Stuttgart struck in stoppage time from Jamie Leweling on Saturday night.
'That's how we wanted to start the season, with a good feeling and a title. It was a short summer break but we've worked hard. But the way we played today was good,' Kane said.
Bayern thin up front Neuer's saves included one against Nick Woltemade, who is sought by Bayern but Stuttgart have insisted that this case is closed now.
That leaves Diaz is the only new man up front via his 75 million euros ($88 million) arrival from Liverpool, while Thomas Muller, Leroy Sane, Kingsley Coman and Mathys Tel have all left and Jamal Musiala is injured long-term.
Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund would not rule out more transfers before the window closes on September 1 - which could fuel further Woltemade speculation despite Stuttgart's stance.
Praise for scorer Diaz Apart from his goal, Colombian Diaz had a mixed performance but Bayern were still satisfied.
Neuer named Diaz 'dangerous and unpredictable' and Freund praised 'how hard-working he is.
'I think that's a very important point throughout the season, that he's a player who works very, very hard and can still make a decisive impact up front.'
Short pre-season Bayern's pre-season lasted a mere 17 days after their engagement in the Club World Cup, and they start the Bundesliga title defence on Friday against RB Leipzig.
'There are definitely lots of things we can do better. We made some needless mistakes with the ball today,' midfielder Leon Goretzka said.
'As Bayern, you go into the season with maximum ambitions and goals.
Given the short pre-season, we know we'll have to suffer a bit here and there to get to the right fitness level over the course of a few games. But when we do the basics, we're tough to beat.'
Neuer said: 'You didn't sense any tiredness with us. We were always the better team in our pre-season games. We want to take that into the league.'
A first step, nothing more Kompany added that 'moaning dosen't help' regarding the short pre-season and that Saturday's victory was 'a good first step.'
Kimmich did also not want to look too far ahead when he said: 'There's no sense yet talking about other titles. We'll now focus on Friday. We want to win another match there.'

Leipzig said racist abuse could not be confirmed by anyone else, but the player was adamant afterwards. 'It's not acceptable, not in this day and age, not at all,' said Antwi-Adjei, who reported the incident to the assistant referee. After the short suspension, Antwi-Adjei was booed every time he touched the ball by Leipzig fans. The German Football Federation has said it opened investigations into the incidents.

Bayern should only sign new players on loan this summer: Hoeness
dpa Frankfurt Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeness believes that the club shouldn't purchase any more players this summer. 'I would strongly advocate filling the squad with a loan player who would be signed until June 30, 2026,' he told the Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper on Tuesday. Bayern are still looking for an offensive player after the departures of Leroy Sane (Galatasaray), Thomas Muller (Vancouver Whitecaps), Mathys Tel (Tottenham) and Kingsley Coman (Al Nassr). Jamal Musiala remains sidelined with a long-term injury, while the attempts to land Germany forward Nick Woltemade from German Cup winners VfB Stuttgart have failed so far. Farke hails Nmecha's ‘ice-cold finish' in Leeds' 1-0 win over Everton
PA Media/dpa London Daniel Farke revealed he almost took the ball off Lukas Nmecha before the substitute's late penalty secured Leeds a winning return to the Premier League against Everton. Summer signing Nmecha, a free transfer from Wolfsburg, held his nerve to bury his 84th-minute spot kick - just six minutes after stepping off the bench to replace Joel Piroe - to clinch Leeds a deserved 1-0 victory at Elland Road. Farke said: 'I was a bit worried. He's on the sheet for taking penalties, but as a substitute, he needed more touches and I was thinking of stepping in there and taking the ball off him. 'Thank God I calmed myself down and he prove me right with an ice-cold finish. He deserves today to be in the spotlight after not the easiest of periods in these last few years.' Nmecha struggled with injuries in his last two seasons in the Bundesliga and has gone under the radar since becoming the first of Leeds' eight summer signings so far. 'He's been excellent,' Farke said. 'He's won caps for Germany, but his last couple of seasons were pretty much interrupted with injury. 'It's always a bit risky to bring such a player in, but this was the reason he was a free transfer, more or less a bargain. 'Just with this important goal, that is worth three points, he's paid everything back - but we didn't pay for him! 'He's a great guy, a hard worker, pretty physical attributes for the Premier League.' Leeds dominated for long periods against Everton and Farke added: 'Overall, in a tight game, a hard-fought win, but also a well-deserved win. 'I think for a newly promoted side, it was an outstanding performance. 'We were very dominant in the first half. Nearly 70 per cent possession, 12 shots, I think 21 in total.' Everton boss David Moyes admitted his side's display did not warrant a point, but did not believe Leeds should have been awarded a penalty. Toffees skipper James Trakowski appeared to lean into Leeds debutant Anton Stach's deflected shot and although his arms were by his side, the ball struck his upper arm and referee Chris Kavanagh's decision was upheld by VAR. Moyes said: 'I'm obviously going to say it's not a penalty and I believe it's not a penalty. 'I've been to see the referee. The referee sort of (had) nothing to do with it, he thought it was to do with VAR, the decision they've made.' Moyes added: 'I actually think the referees have had a poor weekend in the opening weekend. 'I think there have been a lot of (poor) decisions and tonight's is another one.' When asked about his side's display, Moyes added: 'We improved a bit in the second half, but I wasn't impressed by how we played at all. 'I've got to give great credit to Leeds. I thought they were incredibly intense, certainly for the first 30 minutes.'
