Hemant govt ‘grabbing' tribal land, says Champai

Ranchi: BJP MLA from Seraikela and former CM Champai Soren on Tuesday hit out at the Hemant Soren-led alliance govt by reiterating that the incumbent regime is busy "grabbing" tribal land.
Addressing the media in Kanke ahead of his announced stir on Aug 24 against the proposed Rims-2 hospital project, Champai demanded that the state govt take this project to the Smart City area. "On Aug 24, I will be part of the mass protest here where tribals will plough the field to raise their voice against the govt's attempt to grab their agricultural land in the name of the hospital project. Neither I nor anyone else is against this project, but all that we are demanding is that farmers must not be robbed of the agricultural land," said Champai.
Notably, in the past, many BJP leaders have already criticised this project at this particular site, citing large-scale displacement of farmers.
Champai accused the state govt of violating the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, and the Chotanagpur Tenancy (CNT) Act before acquiring the land for the project. However, the govt had earlier said the land belonged to it. "Nobody got any notices for land acquisition here. How can the govt take the land without following the rules? Under this regime, tribals and their land are constantly under threat," the former CM claimed.
Reacting to the stir in the past, state health minister Irfan Ansari had said the land belongs to the govt and the project was aimed at revamping healthcare infrastructure, which will benefit people of Ranchi as well as the state.

Revanth invokes Telugu pride, drums up support for Justice Reddy

He knows the survey in depth and has advised the state govt on ensuring justice for backward classes. He will be the strongest voice of OBCs in Parliament," he asserted. To questions on his role in finalising the candidature, Revanth said: "Justice Reddy is INDIA bloc's choice. He gave a presentation on caste survey analysis to MPs in Delhi, and they recognised his worth as a constitutional expert." Though both the NDA and the INDIA bloc candidates are from the South, Revanth accused BJP of trying to deepen north-south divides. "Congress and the INDIA bloc are fighting to unite the country. 26% staff crunch affects Kendriya Vidyalayas in Karnataka
Hubballi: Karnataka has 53 Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) run by the Union govt. According to an RTI reply, there is a 26% shortage of teachers at KVs in the Bengaluru region, which includes all districts of the state. Some schools are functioning without a full-fledged principal, and some are left understaffed. The parents who are mainly from union govt departments, including the defence and paramilitary personnel, the state govt, and civilians, are worried about the shortage. In an RTI reply, a copy of which is available with the TOI, Hema K, assistant commissioner, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), Bengaluru Region, stated that there are 1,981 sanctioned posts, but 524 of them are vacant. Umapati Bandakeri, secretary of KV Alumni Association, Hubballi-Dharwad, told TOI that the shortage of teachers is hampering the academic curriculum of KVs across the state. "Though they appoint local teachers on a contract basis, they can't be engaged in departmental training and other activities like permanent teachers. Hence, KVs should hold region-wise written tests for the recruitment of teachers and provide question papers in regional languages. On the other hand, north Indian teachers, who get posted in south Indian states, will be going back to north India within a year or two using their political influence, even though there is a norm of not transferring a teacher within five years of posting," he elaborated. He also noted that earlier, it was mandatory to have a substitute, like local contractual teachers, to relieve any transferred teacher. "Nowadays, this mandate is removed, and north Indian teachers are being relieved at any time from Karnataka or any other state without the arrangement of substitutes," he added. Prakash, who worked as a contractual teacher at a KV in Bengaluru, said that he was mercilessly terminated when a permanent teacher joined. "I suffered without a job for the remaining academic year, as I was terminated in the middle of the year. Since then, I have stopped joining KV," he added. While 21 posts are vacant in KV No. 2 Hubballi, against 51 sanctioned posts, KV Dharwad has 21 vacant posts against 55 sanctioned posts. Cong alleges 16 lakh voters added in 2 months before 2023 polls
Bhopal: The Congress on Tuesday continued its attack on the ruling BJP and the EC, alleging irregularities in the voter rolls of 27 constituencies in the 2023 assembly elections in the state. LOP Umang Singhar alleged bungling of 16 lakh votes in the assembly seats of Sevra, Gwalior (South), Surkhi, Mungaoli, Chhattarpur, Gunnour, Theothar, Chitrakoot, Maugunj, Karera, Teothar, Gurh, Dhauhani, Shahpura, Lanji, Shajapur, Haatpipaliya, Mandhata, Barwah, Alirajpur, Petlawad, Dharampuri, Depalpur, Indore – 5, Sailana, and Jawad. Addressing a press conference, Singhar claimed Congress candidates lost these seats by narrow margins while voter growth in these constituencies far exceeded the margin of defeat. "In seven months, between Jan 5, 2023, to Aug 2, 2023, the voter rolls in the state increased by 4.64 lakh voters. But between Aug 2, 2023, to Oct 4, the electoral rolls increased by 16.05 lakh votes, which means nearly 26,000 voters were added every day," Singhar said. "Did the EC inform the political parties about this huge and sudden increase in voters?" the LOP asked. Singhar claimed that a letter from the ECI dated June 9, 2023, directed the chief electoral officers (CEOs) of all states going for assembly elections that year, including Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan, and Telangana, not to publish or share additions/deletions/amendments to the voter list made between January 1 to June 30, 2023, on their websites. The LOP argued that after Lok Sabha LOP Rahul Gandhi exposed SIR (Special Intensive Revision) of electoral rolls in Bihar and the misappropriation of votes in Karnataka during the last Parliamentary elections, the state Congress started probing the electoral rolls in the state. "The BJP govt in Madhya Pradesh was formed with a fake mandate and the EC has a specific role in this," Singhar said. "The EC claims it maintains transparency and provides electoral rolls to the political parties. But it is these voter lists that are bungled. Which is the voter list they provide to the party, and which is the one that is not given? Votes are increased or decreased. This is what happened in Madhya Pradesh," he claimed. The Congress maintained that BJP candidates won these 27 seats with slim margins, ranging from 28 votes in Shajapur where Congress' Hukum Singh Karada was defeated by BJP's Arun Bhimawad. The BJP candidate polled 98,184 in his favour while Hukum Singh Karada secured 98,034 votes. Between August 2, 2023, to October 4, 2023, the number of voters increased by 6,134. Another seat is Dharampuri where Congress candidate Panchilal Medha was defeated by BJP's Kalu Singh Thakur by a margin of 356 votes. Between Aug and Oct 2023, an addition of 7,649 voters was made.
