Prateik Babbar Reveals Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar Wanted To Adopt Him After Smita Patil's Death
Prateik Babbar joked about being Farhan Akhtar's step brother.
Prateik Babbar is the son of Smita Patil and Raj Babbar. Raj Babbar was already married to Nadira when he started his affair with Smita. However, he left her to marry the actress. Smita Patil passed away in 1986 while giving birth to Prateik. After her death, Prateik was raised by Smita's parents. However, he recently revealed that Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar were ready to adopt him.
Prateik Babbar told Zoom, 'I recently found out Shabana (Azmi) ji and Javed (Akhtar) sahab wanted to adopt me after my mother passed away. It was kind of complicated. I could've been Farhan's (Akhtar) stepbrother. I find these new things about me all the time. Aur kya hai, batao (what else is there, tell me). It's also very overwhelming. Ye hota toh main pata nahi kaisi zindagi jee raha hota (If this had happened, I don't know what kind of a life I'd be leading now)."
He continued, 'There are many things I hear about me as a child. There was a custody fight for me in my childhood. I was so little, just crying, I had no idea what was happening with me. People wanted to adopt me." The actor mentioned that all his mother's contemporaries have been kind to him throughout his life.
'I'm very grateful for all the love she gets, and all the goodwill she has in the industry, among all her colleagues and friends. Shabana ji was definitely one of them, along with Javed sahab. Amit ji (Amitabh Bachchan) has always been very kind and supportive. I think everybody from her time, everybody she shared upon with, Naseer sahab (Naseeruddin Shah), Ratna (Pathak Shah) ji, the late great Shyam Benegal obviously. That was a different era. I recently found out about myself, I was conceived on the sets of Mirch Masala (1987)," Prateik said.

Shoojit Sircar Will Accept AI in Filmmaking Only On This Condition
Shoojit Sircar reflected on the application of AI in filmmaking and explained why ethical responsibility should be at the core of using such technology. Shoojit Sircar, one of India's most celebrated filmmakers, has carved his space in cinema with thought-provoking narratives and a visionary approach towards storytelling. Known for films like Piku, Madras Cafe, October and Sardar Udham, the director has always been admired for his nuanced take on life and society through cinema. Now, he has shared his perspective on artificial intelligence, a subject that has been a matter of intense debate across creative industries. The director now reflected on the application of AI in filmmaking and explained why ethical responsibility should be at the core of using such technology. Maintaining a neutral yet thoughtful stance, the filmmaker admitted that technology itself is not problematic until it is used irresponsibly. Shoojit Sircar On Use Of AI in Filmmaking In an interview with Zoom, the director shared, 'Ethics is a crucial aspect that applies to everything we do. With technology, it is essential to ensure that we do not overstep boundaries. This is contingent on individuals. If there is a significant narrative that needs to be conveyed and can be expressed through AI, I would be open to that. It all revolves around the misuse of technology and acting irresponsibly. If technology serves your needs and simplifies your tasks, then I would embrace it." Shoojit Sircar On Raanjhanaa's AI Re-release Controversy The filmmaker also addressed the controversy around Ambikapathy, the Tamil version of Raanjhanaa, which was re-released with an AI-generated ending. While he admitted that he has not personally watched the re-released version, he emphasised the importance of protecting a creator's vision. 'I haven't watched Raanjhanaa but I've heard about the changes made," Sircar said, before stressing, 'The ongoing battle has always been to safeguard every filmmaker's work in this nation, along with every form of art and talent." The October director further highlighted that artistic freedom is not negotiable and must be preserved under all circumstances. He added, 'Their creative vision must be preserved. We dedicate our lives to safeguarding our art. No one should be dismissive of it, nor should anyone undermine it. I can't comment on the alterations made to Raanjhanaa, but we strive to uphold our artistic freedom and freedom of expression. If someone possesses a vision, it is our duty to protect it. The challenge lies in that protection. We should focus on preserving it rather than dismantling it." Shoojit Sircar's Upcoming Work Shoojit Sircar's last project was I Want To Talk (2024), featuring Abhishek Bachchan in the lead. The film, based on the true story of cancer survivor Arjun Sen, was released in theatres on November 22, 2024, and was praised for its sensitive handling of a deeply emotional subject. The director is now gearing up for his next project, Ek Jaadugar, which promises to bring a new flavour to his filmography. Starring Vicky Kaushal in a magical new avatar, the fantasy drama has already generated curiosity among cinephiles. The official release date of the film is yet to be announced.
