After her death, Prateik was raised by Smita's parents. However, he recently revealed that Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar were ready to adopt him. Prateik Babbar told Zoom, 'I recently found out Shabana (Azmi) ji and Javed (Akhtar) sahab wanted to adopt me after my mother passed away. It was kind of complicated. I could've been Farhan's (Akhtar) stepbrother. I find these new things about me all the time. Aur kya hai, batao (what else is there, tell me). It's also very overwhelming. Ye hota toh main pata nahi kaisi zindagi jee raha hota (If this had happened, I don't know what kind of a life I'd be leading now)." He continued, 'There are many things I hear about me as a child. There was a custody fight for me in my childhood. I was so little, just crying, I had no idea what was happening with me. People wanted to adopt me." It was about respecting my mother and her wishes… I'm sorry my father and his wife could not be there, could not be in the house my mother bought for me to grow up and live a life as a single mother.
