The player bought a Carolina Cash 5 ticket that won the top prize in the June 17 drawing, making it worth more than a half-million dollars, the N.C. Education Lottery wrote on its website and in an email to McClatchy News.
The winning numbers: 1-14-16-21-33.
The winner scored $512,111 after playing the Cash 5 game online. While lottery officials said they can't pinpoint where the ticket was sold, the person's account is based in Hillsborough, a roughly 15-mile drive northwest from downtown Durham.
Cash 5 is a rolling jackpot game that offers tickets starting at $1. To score the jackpot prize, a person's ticket must match all five of the numbers picked in a drawing, rules show.
As of about 10:30 a.m. June 18, the lucky ticket holder hadn't claimed their prize. In North Carolina, the winners of drawing games have about six months to cash in, according to lottery officials.

Wife predicts lottery win — then lands $200K-winning ticket in NC. ‘I told you'

A North Carolina woman may be questioning her psychic abilities after her lottery prediction came true. Sylvia Wells, of Hubert, told her husband she believed she would win the lottery, according to a June 19 news release from the N.C. Education Lottery. The couple traveled to a Handy Mart in Jacksonville on June 17 to test their luck, officials said. 'We bought his favorite ticket and my favorite ticket,' Wells told officials. The two left the store, then scratched off their $5 Diamond 10X tickets — and her husband's ticket won $200,000. 'We just kept looking at each other,' Wells said. 'It was overwhelming.' Wells' husband's ticket hit one of four top prizes, lottery officials said. After taxes, they will take home $143,501. The woman told officials she plans to use the money to buy land. 'I was like, 'I told you we were going to do it,' Wells said she told her husband. 'We did it.' One top prize remains in the Diamond 10X game, lottery officials said. The couple lives in Hubert, about a 65-mile drive northeast from Wilmington in southeastern North Carolina.

Someone is holding a lottery ticket worth $150,000 in Georgia. Where was it sold?

A stop at a Georgia gas station led to a big win for a lucky lottery player. The player hit the Fantasy 5 jackpot, winning $150,000 in the drawing Monday, June 16, the Georgia Lottery said. The ticket, sold at a Texaco station in Jonesboro, matched all five numbers. Officials didn't say if a winner has come forward. McClatchy News reached out to the Georgia Lottery on June 18 and was awaiting a response. The winning Fantasy 5 numbers were 4-24-27-30-41, results show. The lucky player beat odds of 1 in 850,668 to take the top prize. Three days earlier, another Fantasy 5 player won a whopping $1.5 million jackpot in the June 13 drawing, according to the lottery's website. That ticket was sold in Villa Rica, a spokesperson told McClatchy News. A Powerball player also netted a $250,000 prize on June 16, capping off a string of big wins in the Peach State, results show. Winners in Georgia have 180 days to claim prizes on draw games and are encouraged to sign the back of their ticket, the Georgia Lottery said. Jonesboro is about a 20-mile drive south from downtown Atlanta.
