Taylor Knibb insists 'I'm not the one to beat' as PTO resumes
Knibb romped to the world title last year but was beaten for the first time under the T100 in San Francisco a fortnight ago when she finished second behind Julie Derron.
But the American was keen to highlight the strength in depth of the women's field, and shrugged off the notion that she had a target on her back on Canada's west coast.
'Defending would imply you have something to lose, so reframing that is more appropriate in that there is a world title on the line and I would like to do everything I can to get another world title,' she said. 'No one has earned it yet and it is all for the taking.
'There are a lot of really strong women in the field and if there is anyone who thinks I am the only person to beat, I have a list that is very extensive.
'There are a lot of women who are incredibly strong and incredibly talented. There are a lot of threats.'
Knibb won all of her T100 races last season, picking up victories in San Francisco, Ibiza and Las Vegas before sealing the world title with a dominant display in Dubai last November.
The 27-year-old was unable to repeat the feat in San Fransico two weeks ago, but the American was positive about her season opener having missed the first leg in Singapore.
'It was a great first race of the season and I am excited to keep on improving from there,' she said.
'I have a lot of work to do. You can't do it all in two weeks, you have to recover for the next race but I am excited for the season ahead.'
Knibb will race in Vancouver for the first time in her career, as the T100 Triathlon World Tour makes its maiden stop in Canada.
Having raced all around the globe, including at two Olympic Games, Knibb is embracing a new environment and a new course to get her teeth into.
'It's really fun to get to go to a place I've never been to before that is really quite gorgeous,' she added.
'In this sport, there are races that are held in the same place for numerous years and that's fantastic but after the 15th time of visiting a city, it is fun to go somewhere else.
'It looks like a fantastic course. I tried the bike course yesterday. The swim for the women is apparently going to be a really long run in, so we'll see how that plays out.
'It seems like a fantastic venue and the T100 has once again delivered a fantastic race course.'
Watch the world's top 20 female and top 20 male triathletes race live in the Vancouver T100 on Saturday 14 June. Emma Raducanu and Jack Draper face qualifiers in US Open first round
The pair are the leading British hopes for success in New York, with Draper bidding to follow up last year's breakthrough run to the semi-finals. Seeded fifth, the draw initially appears to have been kind to the 23-year-old, although he could face defending champion Jannik Sinner a round earlier than last year in the last eight. A post shared by @emmaraducanu Draper will hope to find form quickly on his favoured hard courts after being forced to sit out the recent Masters 1000 events in Canada and Cincinnati because of an arm injury. He has not played a competitive singles match since a disappointing loss to Marin Cilic in the second round of Wimbledon but did play three contests in the revamped mixed doubles tournament here alongside American Jessica Pegula, with the pair beating Raducanu and Carlos Alcaraz in their opening match. Raducanu has continued her strong season over the last couple of months, elevating her ranking to 35 in the world but just missing out on a seeding by one spot. She is still looking for her first victory at Flushing Meadows since claiming the title in 2021 as a qualifier and, while she is likely to be strongly favoured in the opening round, things will get tougher from there. Raducanu will fancy her chances against anyone in the field, though, having taken world number one Aryna Sabalenka all the way to a deciding tie-break in Cincinnati last week in her first tournament under new coach Francisco Roig. The other British women have been handed tough draws, with Katie Boulter, who has struggled since Wimbledon, taking on 27th seed Marta Kostyuk and Sonay Kartal meeting 11th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia. In the men's draw, Wimbledon quarter-finalist Cameron Norrie faces American Sebastian Korda while Jacob Fearnley will make his US Open debut against Roberto Bautista Agut, with the winner likely to meet third seed Alexander Zverev. Defending women's champion Sabalenka plays Spain's Rebeka Masarova in round one while second seed Iga Swiatek and third seed Coco Gauff are both in the bottom half. Forty-five-year-old Venus Williams, who returns to the tournament as a wild card 28 years after making her debut, faces a tough opener against 11th seed Karolina Muchova. Play in the main draws begins on Sunday.

Serena Williams reveals secret behind incredible weight loss and body transformation
Tennis legend Serena Williams, 43, has explained how she has managed to shed a remarkable 31 pounds over the past 18 months following the birth of her second child Serena Williams has revealed that she has used a weight loss drug to help her body transformation after having two children. The tennis legend says she has struggled to control her weight since giving birth to her eldest daughter, Alexis Olympia, in 2017 and then her second daughter Adira River in August 2023. Williams is a 23-time Grand Slam champion and, although she retired from tennis in 2022, she still works out regularly. Nevertheless, Williams decided she wanted to reduce her weight 18 months ago and turned to medication. She has been using Zepbound, a GLP-1-based drug that is similar to other brands like Ozempic and Mounjaro. GLP-1 is short for glucagon-like peptide-1 and is a natural hormone that helps regulate blood sugar and appetite. She has opened up on her decision in an interview with People in which she explained her progress. 'I never was able to get to the weight I needed to be no matter what I did, no matter how much I trained,' the 43-year-old said. 'It was crazy because I'd never been in a place like that in my life where I worked so hard, ate so healthy and could never get down to where I needed to be at. 'I had never taken shortcuts in my career and always worked really hard. I know what it takes to be the best. So it was very frustrating to do all the same things and never be able to change that number on the scale or the way my body looked.' Williams has lost a remarkable 31 pounds (14kg) since starting on the drug, which is taken via weekly injections. She began taking it in early 2024, around six months after giving birth to Adira, who she shares with her husband Alexis Ohanian. The American tennis star is now a paid spokesperson for health care company Ro, who make the drug, while Ohanian, who co-founded social media site Reddit, is also an investor. She is now training for a half-marathon and spends plenty of time in the gym working out too. 'I just can do more. I'm more active,' Williams added. 'My joints don't hurt as much. I just feel like something as simple as just getting down is a lot easier for me. And I do it a lot faster. I feel like I have a lot of energy and it's great. I just feel pretty good about it.' Williams took the decision to use the weight loss drug, despite knowing about the stigma around them. 'I've never felt that pressure to maintain a certain appearance,' she said. 'I always felt comfortable at any size, whether I was a lot heavier or not. I do feel like my body didn't like me at that weight. I had pain in my joints and pain in different areas just because of the extra weight that I'm not used to carrying since I had children.'
