Tennessee Titans' best moments: Remembering Eddie George's longest run

Yahoo2 days ago
Now introducing… 905 pounds of beef!
It's Jan. 16, 2000 in Indianapolis.
You're in the RCA Dome. You are a poor, poor linebacker for the Indianapolis Colts. You look up. Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Benji Olson's running straight at you. Uh oh.
But wait. It's not just Olson. Olson and Jon Runyan are running straight at you. Gulp.
Nope. Save your gulp. It's even worse than that. Olson and Runyan and Lorenzo Neal are running straight at you. This isn't a drill. This is Pamplona, and you're wearing a red jumpsuit and waving a red flag after someone dumped red paint all over you.
Put simply, the Titans are going to run the football. The Colts know it. That's why they've got eight defenders in the tackle box at the snap.
Here is No. 9 on The Tennessean's list of the Tennessee Titans' best moments.
Running back Eddie George takes a counter-step right before breaking back left. By the time George takes the handoff from quarterback Steve McNair, left tackle Brad Hopkins and left guard Bruce Matthews have already driven defensive linemen three yards off the line of scrimmage and tight end Jackie Harris has sealed off the edge.
Olson, the right guard, had pull-kick responsibilities and absolutely toppled defensive end Bertrand Berry at the point of attack. Neal, the fullback, took his lead-blocking job as seriously as ever and barreled toward defensive lineman Chad Bratzke to help Harris. And Runyan, the right tackle, pulled and wrapped through the formation as George's final lead blocker. But… there wasn't anyone left to block. All foes had been vanquished. Even receiver Kevin Dyson came 15 yards upfield to block a safety and spring the hole.

George did the rest of the work. It doesn't take 20-20 vision to see the hole the Titans blockers created, but George weaved through it expertly. No one touched George for 68 yards as the workhorse scampered for his longest ever run in a Titans uniform to give his team a lead it wouldn't look back from in a crucial playoff tilt on the way to a Super Bowl appearance.

Napheesa Collier injury update: Lynx superstar exits Aces win

The Minnesota Lynx lost superstar forward and 2025 WNBA MVP favorite Napheesa Collier to an ankle injury on the road against the Las Vegas Aces on Saturday afternoon. While the Lynx were up 92-49 over the Aces late in the third quarter, Collier fell to the court and needed assistance to get up and leave the game. The team soon ruled her out for the rest of the contest with a right ankle injury. Minnesota coach Cheryl Reeve had no update on Collier's condition during her postgame press conference. The Lynx got the 111-58 victory, but losing Collier for any substantial amount of time would be absolutely catastrophic for Minnesota's WNBA title hopes. We'll keep you updated once we know more about Collier's injury status. This article originally appeared on For The Win: Napheesa Collier injury update: Lynx superstar exits Aces win

It's Miller time at Bellflower High

If you're looking for a football team that almost certainly will be improved over last season, Bellflower High fits the profile. The Buccaneers went 0-10. Amir Neal was a starter and never quit. His mom kept telling him, "It's going to get better, it's going to get better." And it has with the hiring of first-year coach Keith Miller, who has brought along his 14-year-old freshman son, Austin, who's 6 feet 5. "We're going to compete for championships and scholarships," Miller vowed at a media day on Saturday. Miller was an assistant at Bellflower when his brother, Jason, was head coach. His daughter plays flag football at Bellflower, so the Millers figure to be influential in the sports programs. Having Austin around should help. He's a receiver who's still growing. New quarterback Elacion Saxton will try to use Miller's size and athleticism for big plays. Austin was asked if during a car ride his father treats him differently depending on his performance. "There's no difference whether there's a good game or bad game," he said. "My dad still loves me." After a follow-up question, Austin finally admitted a good game gets him a stop at Chipotle. Let's see how many stops he gets this season. Sign up for the L.A. Times SoCal high school sports newsletter to get scores, stories and a behind-the-scenes look at what makes prep sports so popular.
