TikTok star Dominque McShain dead at 21 after colon cancer battle, telling fans she only had ‘days, weeks to live'

New York Post24-04-2025
A 21-year-old TikTok star has died from colon cancer after she announced to her followers earlier this month that she was given weeks to live by her doctor.
Dominique McShain's death was confirmed by PEOPLE on Wednesday, a year after the New Zealand-based influencer revealed she had been diagnosed with incurable colorectal cancer last April.
The exact date of her death is still unknown.

McShain wrote a heartbreaking Instagram post to her followers on April 6, sharing that she would no longer be posting content as she neared the end of her life.
'I want to be direct with you all: this will be my final update on my cancer journey until I have passed away,' she wrote. 'I've recently been given a prognosis about five days ago of only a few days to a few weeks to live.'
She shared that her liver was 'failing rapidly,' which caused her cancer to spread and made it impossible to receive treatments, including the chemotherapy she had been on for the last 7 months.
'At this point, I've transitioned into end-of-life care, focusing on pain relief and managing side effects, with so much time spent in both the hospital and hospice facilities,' McShain shared.
The TikToker said that, although her life may be short, she 'genuinely' felt she had 'squeezed every bit out of it.'
'I won the lottery with a family that loves me unconditionally, friends who would 10000% donate a liver to me or do anything they could (and probably argue over who gets to do it), and the sweetest husband, Sean, who's been my rock through everything – before and after my diagnosis,' McShain wrote.

The social media star got engaged to her boyfriend Sean Suson in May 2024, on McShain's 21st birthday, and months after her cancer diagnosis. The couple tied the knot that July.
'Of course, there are so many key adult moments I won't get to experience, things I won't get to be or have, and that's something I've had to come to terms with,' McShain wrote in her April 6 post.
'The grief of what I'm missing out on is no longer overwhelming, though. Recently, I've found a sense of acceptance.'
The TikTokker told her followers that all the bad news she's received from the doctors over the last year has 'desensitized' her to 'the pain,' but also allowed her to find 'peace' with her situation.
'Recently, I've been picturing Heaven often — a place where l'll finally be free from the pain that's been with me for so long. I imagine myself without the constant suffering, no longer needing medication just to survive the day,' she wrote.

'I'll be able to run, to breathe, to feel whole. Though it will hurt to leave you all behind, please know that I will finally be out of pain, and I will be at peace.'
McShain concluded her post by expressing her gratitude to her loved ones and followers for being in her life.
The 21-year-old content creator had built her following of over 200,000 followers across social media by spreading awareness of symptoms she was experiencing during her battle with colon cancer.
In her first video on TikTok in May 2024, McShain shared how the cancer ended her college career before she could graduate.
'I was, until two weeks ago, a third-year psychology student, and I wanted to do clinical psychology eventually. And that would take another five years to study for,' McShain said in the video, which garnered more than 5.5 million views.'Basically, I stopped work and uni because I have such severe cancer, and the treatment is so intense.'

She also said she wanted to raise awareness about her illness.
'I wanted to make a difference somehow and leave something behind and hopefully help people,' McShain said.
'I know that cancer is getting a lot more common in the colon for younger people, so I really wanted to eventually share my symptoms and raise awareness.'
In 2020, there were over 1.9 million new cases of colon cancer recorded worldwide, and more than 930,000 people lost their lives to this disease, according to the National Library of Medicine.
Australia, New Zealand, and Europe had the highest rates of being diagnosed with colon cancer.
In the US, it is estimated that there will be more than 107,000 new cases of colon cancer by the end of 2025 — with more than 54,000 being diagnosed in men and more than 52,000 in females, according to the American Cancer Society.
From 2012 to 2021, the rates among individuals under 50 years old have risen steadily, showing an alarming increase of 2.4% per year.

TikTok Made Me Do It: Soccer Jersey Outfits To Try Now

European soccer dominated sports bars and Instagram feeds this summer — especially with the Lionesses ' UEFA cup win and women's soccer gaining more global momentum. Add in some major pop culture tie-ins (Ted Lasso' s fourth season announcement focusing on a women's team, and a rumored Bend It Like Beckham sequel), and it's no surprise the soccer aesthetic is hitting harder than ever. Adidas mini track shorts (recently worn by Zoë Kravitz and more fashion It girls) also just landed on Lyst Index's Q2 hottest products list. Plus, cleats (spotted on Rosalía) are popping up as an unexpected streetwear choice, according to Style Analytics. But TikTok has crowned the ultimate summer MVP of the sporty trend: the soccer jersey. I first noticed the look while scrolling on Pinterest and TikTok — girls styling soccer jerseys for more than just game day. Then I started spotting them IRL across NYC, worn to brunch, drinks, and just about everything in between. As someone who grew up watching and playing soccer, the resurgence made me nostalgic and sartorially intrigued. Ahead, see how I styled a few jerseys for everyday settings, from casual errands to the office and even nights out. And no, these jerseys aren't tied to specific teams or players — they're pieces I picked up from my favorite retailers, like Urban Outfitters and Old Navy. Think: less fandom, more athletics-chic.

Darren Criss returning to Broadway's ‘Maybe Happy Ending' after casting backlash

Maybe it is a happy ending for this Broadway musical after all. 'Maybe Happy Ending' writers Will Aronson and Hue Park have announced that the show's original star, Darren Criss, will return to the lead robot role of Oliver this fall. 'This Model 3 is anything but retired,' the Tony-winning musical posted via Instagram on Wednesday. 'Darren Criss returns to Maybe Happy Ending on Broadway as Oliver beginning November 5th.' Getty Images The news that Criss, 38, will return to 'Maybe Happy Ending' comes after the show's creators faced serious backlash for recasting the half-Filipino actor with Andrew Barth Feldman, who is not of Asian descent, last month. Advertisement Although Broadway insiders tell The Post that Criss was always scheduled to take a two-month leave of absence from the musical, and that Feldman was only cast to fill in for Criss for a nine-week limited engagement, there was still public outcry about the decision. Feldman is also married to Helen J. Shen, who plays the female lead Claire in 'Maybe Happy Ending.' 10 Helen J. Bruce Giikas/WireImage Advertisement Playwright and actor BD Wong penned an open letter criticizing Aronson and Park's choice to temporarily replace Criss with a non-Asian actor, and the lengthy essay garnered more than 2,400 signatures. 'This deserves attention,' the 'M. Butterfly' star charged. 'To put it simply: Asian Actors and the Asian Theatergoing Community are fiercely wrestling over a non-Asian actor replacing the Asian male lead in the Broadway musical 'Maybe Happy Ending.'' 'Please google this responsibly,' Wong added. 'It's a real, eternal outcry about race and representation, not an irrational rant about robots.' 10 BD Wong attends 'Call Me Izzy' Broadway opening night at Studio 54 in New York City on June 12, 2025. Getty Images Advertisement Aronson and Park, who later responded to the backlash on Instagram, said that they were 'extremely saddened' that their show 'could ever become a source of confusion, anger or pain.' 'We would like to share some thoughts on the collective casting decision of Andrew Barth Feldman in Maybe Happy Ending,' the pair began. 'Our dream at the outset was that our allegorical robot show could one day miraculously become part of the American musical theater canon – a modern Fantasticks, able to be comfortably performed by anyone, anywhere – yet distinctly set in Korea,' they added. 'This went against prevailing wisdom that we needed to set our show in America.' 10 Darren Criss attends Macy's 4th of July fireworks at the Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York City on July 4, 2025. But while countless Broadway fans were happy to learn that Criss will return to 'Maybe Happy Ending' later this year, some questioned whether it was only because of the ongoing casting backlash. 'So like… was this the plan all along?' one person asked. Advertisement 10 Darren Criss as Oliver in 'Maybe Happy Ending.'
