This American barbecue joint in the CBD makes a case for Aussie lamb

American barbecue typically leans on pork and beef, but Fancy Hank's makes a case for Australia's national meat. Choose from braised lamb shank glazed with adobo (a smoky Mexican-style chilli sauce), or juicy merguez-style smoked lamb sausage wound into a tight spiral and served with chicken salt slaw.
Throw in sides like brisket baked beans or 'fancy' mac and cheese with house-smoked bacon lardons and pork scratchings (also known as crackling). Despite its location on the first floor of a CBD building, the kitchen sticks to tradition, cooking everything in a custom-built, two-tonne smoker named Puffing Billie that's taken residence in the venue since 2016.

KISS 'deeply honoured' to receive Kennedy Center Honor
KISS feel "deeply honoured" to be receiving a Kennedy Center Honor. Announcing the recipients this week, he said: 'I would say I was about 98 percent involved. They all went through me. '... I had a couple of wokesters. Now, we have great people. This is very different than it used to be, very different.' In a major change to the ceremony - which will take place on 7 December and air on CBS and stream on Paramount+ at a later date - the president himself will serve as host. When he made the announcement at the Kennedy Center's Hall of Nations, where he unveiled five portraits draped in velvet, Trump admitted he himself had long wanted one of the prestigious accolades. Thrash metal band Megadeth uses artificial intelligence to say goodbye as it announces it's 17th album and farewell tour
An American thrash metal band has announced that their 17th studio album will be their last. In a video posted to Instagram, an AI generated video shows various cities on fire, volcanoes erupting and AI generated news anchors proclaiming the end times, before their mascot, Vic Rattlehead confirmed that the band was splitting up. The band, which was founded in 1983 by guitarist Dave Mustine, has toured Australia in 2025 and 2023. In the video, Vic Rattlehead said 'For over four decades, I've been chained in silence, but the end demands my voice. 'It's been confirmed; the next Megadeth studio album will be the last.' A statement that was published on the band's website from founding member Dave Mustaine said, 'It's our last studio album. We've made a lot of friends over the years, and I hope to see all of you on our global farewell tour.' Many of the comments that appeared on the Instagram video were supportive of the band, with many saying that they were sad to see the thrash metal band split up. 'Megadeth, you will always live on in our hearts. Thank you for everything Dave Mustaine,' one said. Another wrote, 'Make it a blast! One of the only bands I own all the albums to.' A third commented, 'It hurts my heart to see THE metal band that has got me into metal leave.' But some commented that they were critical of the band's decision to use artificial intelligence to create the apocalyptic hell scape that was used in the video to promote the new album. 'MEGADETH YOUR SUPPOSED TO DESTROY AI NOT JOIN THEM' one said in all capitals. Another said, 'Megadeth using ai,' whilst another said 'Hope AI won't be used for the actual music videos and album art. So disappointed' In a lengthy statement that was posted to the band's website, Mustaine expressed that he was grateful to the band's fans over the years for their loyalty. 'Don't be mad, don't be sad, be happy for us all, come celebrate with me these next few years, he said.' He went on to talk about Megadeath's legacy and the influence it has had on music. 'We started a musical style, we started a revolution, we changed the guitar world and how it's played, and we changed the world,' Mustaine said. 'The bands I played in have influenced the world. I love you all for it. Thank you for everything.'

TAINTED: burlesque show merges Victorian-era tales with 90s grunge sound
A Victorian-style tragedy full of magic, slapstick, pole dance, burlesque and fire dance, all set to a 90s grunge soundtrack is coming to Sun Street Studios. Sophie Cook and the Wollombi Burlesque Troupe are bringing TAINTED - A Burlesque Tragic Opera to Maitland for one night only on Friday, August 29. Inspired by Victorian stories and English films, TAINTED covers everything from plague and pestilence to age and love, with live 90s grunge music from the likes of Nirvana and Soundgarden. Sophie, who wrote and produced the show, and plays vaudevillian Legs 11.11, said it's is very comedic but also has depth. Going through menopause has impacted Sophie's life and the way she has written the show. "There's just so many different things that I'm taking on from writing to producing, to performing, and it does seem a lot harder now that I'm in this menopause," she said. "It is something that we all go through and even though it's not very sexy, it's a big shift in your life and I'm trying to come to terms with that it's a really empowering time, I've heard women say that they do their very best work when they sort of push into this new phase." Sophie said this has led her to embracing playing more of a matriarchal role in this show, rather than the siren she's known for. "I'm also just doing those gross things on stage that I probably wouldn't have done when I was 25, and I'm still ballsy enough to take off some layers of clothing, but I guess in this particular act... she is celebrating her body but she's also looking in the mirror and is kind of not happy with her body," she said. "I'm trying to bring in the humour that everybody feels as they get older, whereas if I was 25 I wouldn't even be considering putting a thread like that in my own work." TAINTED will be Sophie's fifth show in Maitland, and she said while it's a huge undertaking, she doesn't know what she'd do without the shows and the creative process. "It's going to be a really fun night out and the band is amazing, they've got some really incredible performers so it's something different," she said. "I don't think you [usually] get a chance to listen to much grunge music, unless you're looking for it."
