Contributions of minority communities lauded
Representatives from Christian, Hindu, Sikh, and other religious minority communities actively participated in the event and shared their perspectives on their role in Pakistan's national development, particularly in the context of the URAAN Pakistan.
Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, in his keynote address, paid tribute to the invaluable contributions of minority communities in Pakistan's history and progress. He emphasized that minorities played an unforgettable role in the Pakistan Movement, and their love, loyalty, and services continue to be a vital part of the nation's growth.
'Pakistan is a result of the shared sacrifices of all communities. We didn't just build the country together, we have also strengthened it together,' said the Minister. He reiterated that the true strength of any nation lies not in its military arsenal or economic reserves but in the unity of its people.
Ahsan Iqbal reaffirmed the government's commitment to inclusivity and equal opportunity for all citizens regardless of religion, race, or ethnicity. 'All Pakistanis are equal; development is everyone's right. We must rise above differences to build a prosperous Pakistan,' he stated.
Referring to the government's flagship vision URAAN Pakistan, the Minister noted that its 5Es Framework—Exports, E-Pakistan, Environment, Energy, and Equity—is deeply rooted in the principle of inclusive growth. He stressed that no district or community should be left behind and called for holding such Bethaks across the country to ensure every voice is heard in the development narrative.
Touching upon national security, Ahsan Iqbal highlighted Pakistan's resilience against external aggression and terrorism. 'From defeating terrorism to overcoming the energy crisis, Pakistan has proved it is not weak. Our armed forces have given a befitting response to aggression, and the nation has always stood united against every threat,' he added.
In conclusion, the Minister underlined the importance of political stability, continuity in policy, and mutual cooperation as key to building a bright future for Pakistan. 'Under the green crescent flag, we are all one. Together, we can defeat hatred with love, and injustice with equality.

PHOTO: ISPR Listen to article Security forces thwarted a major infiltration attempt from Afghanistan, killing at least 33 terrorists in the Zhob district of Balochistan, the military said in a statement on Friday, adding that a "sanitisation operation" is ongoing for residual terrorist elements in the area. The movement of a sizeable group of Khwarij belonging to Indian proxy Fitna al Khwarij was detected by security forces in the Sambaza area of Zhob on the night between August 7and 8, the military's media wing, the ISPR, said in a statement. They were trying to infiltrate through the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. "Own troops effectively engaged and thwarted their attempt to infiltrate. As a result of precise, bold and skillful engagement, 33 Indian-sponsored Khwarij were sent to hell," it added. "A large cache of weapons, ammunition and explosives was also recovered." Terrorists from the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the group responsible for much of terrorist violence in the country, have officially been designated as "Fitna al Khwarij" who officials claim receive financial and material support from India's intelligence agency RAW. "A sanitisation operation is being conducted to eliminate any other Khwarij found in the area," the ISPR added. "The security forces of Pakistan remain resolute and unwavering in their commitment to defend the nation's frontiers and to eradicate the menace of Indian-sponsored terrorism from the country." Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for successfully foiling the infiltration attempt. "The brave personnel of the security forces risked their lives to stop the terrorists and frustrate their nefarious designs," he said in a statement issued by his office. The premier emphasised the nation's support for the security forces, saying that "the entire nation stands with the security forces in their fight against terrorism." He reiterated his commitment to eliminating all forms of terrorism from the country and underscored the government's determination to maintain peace and security. The TTP and its affiliated groups had fled across the border into Afghanistan following their rout in a major military operation, codenamed Zarb-e-Azb, in the erstwhile tribal areas of Pakistan in 2014. There, they found safe havens which they have since used as launch pads for attacks inside Pakistan. In Afghanistan, the TTP developed a symbiotic relationship with other terrorist groups — particularly the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) — to step up attacks in Pakistan. Pakistani officials say they have credible evidence of tactical and strategic coordination between the BLA's lethal Majeed Brigade and the TTP. These claims were reinforced by the latest report of the UN Security Council, which explicitly states that the BLA – including its Majeed Brigade – and the TTP maintain "close coordination" in their terrorist activities. The report cites high-profile, complex attacks claimed by these groups in 2025 to illustrate the level of operational synchronisation between them. Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Taliban regime to honour its commitment under the Doha Accord not to allow Afghan soil to be used by any transnational group against other countries in the region and beyond. However, the Taliban regime has been reluctant to take action against these groups, amid reports it seeks to use them as leverage in negotiations with neighbouring states.

JI demands govt overhaul Karachi public transport system
KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi Chief, Monem Zafar Khan has said that the World Bank's recent report on Karachi's transport system paints a worrying picture, underlining serious shortfalls in urban mobility for the megacity's growing population. Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Monem Zafar said that the report exposes the significant challenges Karachi faces, particularly in public transport availability and infrastructure development. 'According to the World Bank, the city needs at least 15,000 buses to meet its public transport demands, but we currently have only a fraction of that,' he said. He pointed out that while other cities like Lahore have seen projects like the E-train and rapid bus systems, Karachiites are largely dependent on three-wheelers and rickshaws due to limited public transport options. Monem Zafar noted that although new bus initiatives are often announced, including promises of double-decker buses and improvements to bus corridors, progress remains limited. 'On-ground reality does not match these announcements,' he said, adding that some of the buses launched under various projects are reportedly lying unused in depots due to maintenance or operational issues. Referring to ongoing projects such as the Green Line and Red Line bus systems, he said these efforts have not yet translated into tangible relief for daily commuters. He added that roads along major corridors, including University Road, remain under construction for long periods, creating inconvenience for the public. Monem Zafar also called for the revival and completion of earlier transport projects such as the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR), and suggested revisiting the plans implemented during former city mayor Nematullah Khan's tenure, which introduced the idea of a mass transit system. He urged the authorities to conduct an audit of all buses brought to the city in recent years to determine their current status and ensure better accountability. 'We need to know how many buses were procured, how many are operational, and what happened to the rest,' he said. The JI leader concluded that improving Karachi's transport network was essential not just for easing public hardship, but also for the overall economic and social development of the city. Sindh CM participates in Independence Day celebrations with differently-abled children
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah celebrated the 78th Independence Day with differently-abled children in two heart warming events held at the Quaid-e-Azam House Museum and the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, and both events, marked under the theme 'Markaz-e-Haq', highlighted inclusivity, unity, and national pride. The day began at the Quaid-e-Azam House Museum, where the Department of Culture hosted a vibrant programme. Over 100 children from institutions such as Scanosa, C-Arts, Dar Al-Sukoon, and Umeed-e-No participated in the celebration, which featured a flag-hoisting ceremony, national songs, and cultural performances in Sindhi, Punjabi, Balochi, and Pashto. Murad, accompanied by Culture Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Secretary DEPD Tauha Farooqi, and prominent artists like Javed Sheikh and Ayub Khoso, engaged warmly with the children. He sang national songs, joined children on stage, and cut a cake to mark the occasion. He praised the courage and talent of the children, stating, 'These special children are the heart of this celebration. They bring joy, energy, and hope.' Murad Ali Shah emphasised his government's unwavering commitment to inclusivity, equality, and support for the differently-abled.
