2025 Big Bets Report: $2k Wager On Bears Could Win Bettor $600k

NFL hope springs eternal for football bettors.
And perhaps no fan base is more hopeful than that of the Chicago Bears.
In fact, one Bears backer is banking on a big season for both second-year QB Caleb Williams and the team itself.
The potential prize? A mid-six-figure cashout.
Read on for more on that customer's wager and other notable bets around the NFL and MLB.
Bears Bandwagon
Last year, in Williams' rookie season, Chicago surprised many observers by getting out to a 4-2 start. But the Bears followed with a season-killing 10-game losing streak.
Chicago didn't find the win column again until the Week 18 season finale, in a 24-22 road upset of the Green Bay Packers. The Bears finished a disappointing 5-12.
Coach Matt Eberflus was fired in late November, in the midst of the Bears' losing skid. In January, Ben Johnson was named the new coach, leaving the Detroit Lions after a successful stint as offensive coordinator.
Time will tell if that leads to a major turnaround — and one DraftKings Sportsbook customer certainly hopes so.
The bettor put $2,000 on a two-leg parlay of Williams winning NFL MVP and the Bears winning the Super Bowl. The odds on that happening: a hefty +30000 — or 300/1 in easier-to-digest terms.
If somehow that parlay comes through, then the customer profits a whopping $600,000 (total payout $602,000). As the odds indicate, though, it's a huge if.
DraftKings also took a $5,000 bet on Bears +3500 to win the Super Bowl. If Chicago lifts the Lombardi Trophy, then the bettor claims $180,000 in profit (total payout $185,000).

Then there's this small wager with excellent ROI potential but with a difficult path to cashing out: Caesars Sports took a $20 bet on Chicago +12500 (125/1) to go 6-0 against the NFC North.
If the Bears run roughshod over the division this season, then that 20 bucks turns into $2,500. However, that bet might not survive the first two weeks. Chicago opens at home against the Minnesota Vikings, then goes on the road vs. the Lions.
More Super Bowl Support
The Las Vegas Raiders are coming off a 4-13 campaign, after which coach Antonio Pierce was fired. Former Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is the new Raiders coach, and he lured former Seahawks QB Geno Smith to join him.
Oddsmakers are hardly convinced that the Raiders are a Super Bowl threat. But again, it's preseason, when the public betting masses have visions of grandeur.
At Caesars Sports, a bettor put $4,000 on the Raiders +9000 to win Super Bowl 60. A Las Vegas championship would net that bettor a healthy $360,000 profit (total payout $364,000).

$1,000 Jacksonville Jaguars +11000 (DraftKings), to win $110,000

The New England Patriots have better odds than all four of those teams, though not by much. That didn't stop a DraftKings customer from plunking $10,000 on Patriots +8000 to win the Super Bowl.
If new coach Mike Vrabel and second-year QB Drake Maye have an absolutely stellar season, then that bettor will be rolling in $800,000 of profit (total payout $810,000).
And how about this long-shot play: A Caesars Sports bettor put $75 on the Panthers beating the Jets in the Super Bowl, at odds of +100000. That's 1000/1.
Both teams went 5-12 last season. But if somehow this unlikely matchup happens, and Bryce Young & Co. win it all, then that meager 75 bucks becomes $75,000.
Around The Horn
It's not often that 60 cents becomes a thousand dollars — but it happened on Sunday.
A DraftKings Sportsbook customer, perhaps with only pocket change left in a mobile account, put those 60 cents on a two-leg player prop parlay:
New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe to triple against the Miami Marlins
San Diego Padres center fielder Jackson Merrill to triple vs. the St. Louis Cardinals
Both players delivered a triple, and at odds of +168000 (1680/1), the bettor banked $1,008 in profit. That's the kind of ROI any of us could get behind.
On the opposite end of that spectrum, a Caesars Sports customer bet a lot to win a little. The Detroit Tigers, who lead the AL Central by six games, are an almost mortal lock to make the playoffs.
Earlier this week, on the Yes/No prop of Tigers to reach the postseason, Yes was an overwhelming -8000 favorite. That means it would take an $8,000 bet to win $100.
The bettor decided to double that, putting $16,000 on Tigers -8000. As long as Detroit doesn't totally implode between now and Sept. 28, that customer will win all of $200.
As always, keep in mind that the aforementioned big bets often come from high-roller types who can afford it. Keep it reasonable. Never bet more than you can afford to lose.

Ben Johnson wants Bears to remain physical without fighting
There has been plenty of physical play within the Chicago Bears throughout the early portion of training camp, especially this past Tuesday when several skirmishes broke out between the offense and defense. While the intensity and excitement around the practice was celebrated, head coach Ben Johnson wasn't thrilled about the fighting that took place, but hopes there's a valuable lesson for the regular season. Speaking to the media ahead of the team's joint practice against the Miami Dolphins on Friday, Johnson said the intensity the team showed will be the norm, and as long as they cut out the fighting, that's what others should expect from the team. Physical play and intensity were two traits clearly missing from the team last season, but Johnson is hoping to change the team's demeanor and image for this upcoming season, his first year with the team. "Take the skirmishes out of the play, that's what we're going to be about," Johnson said. As much as Johnson would like to keep the fighting to a minimum, that wasn't the case for their first interactions with Miami, as multiple fights broke out in the first joint practice that included Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel breaking one up. The Bears are clearly trying to change their image from last year and put together a much more physical and intense team overall, especially on defense. If they can become disciplined before the start of the regular season, Chicago will be a fun watch throughout the year. 2024-25 Thunder player grades: Jaylin Williams
The calendar has flipped to August, which means we've officially hit the low point of the NBA cycle. The next couple of months are the driest part of the year. Everybody has headed to vacation and awaits training camp to kick off the 2025-26 season. The Oklahoma City Thunder continue to enjoy their NBA championship. They had a historic 68-14 regular-season campaign that eventually led to the franchise's first title with a 2025 NBA Finals Game 7 win. They'll enter next season as a favorite to be a rare repeat winner. To reflect on their title run, Thunder Wire will conduct 2024-25 season grades for all 19 players who suited up for the squad at one point during the year. Tenth up is Jaylin Williams, who helped the Thunder win a championship with rich depth: 2024-25 statistics: Advanced stats: Significant Percentile Finishes: Contract: Thoughts: Turning into Mr. Triple-Double when given the chance, Williams's lack of playing time had more to do with the Thunder's rich depth than his talent. A handsome contract extension signed this offseason shows the NBA champion is still a believer in his impact. Penciling out the rotation, it was difficult to imagine how Williams would get consistent minutes. After all, he might've been overqualified for the job, but he was the third-string center behind Chet Holmgren and Isaiah Hartenstein. And then the Thunder were constantly bitten by the injury bug all season. That opened a lane of minutes that the 23-year-old soaked up. Despite averaging just 17 minutes, Williams hit career highs across the board. He was another Thunder role player who had his best season yet. Juggling injuries, he helped the Thunder stay afloat at the center position. He was a solid backup big who could run the offense with DHO actions and timely backdoor passes. Off the ball, Williams was another catch-and-shoot threat. Each time he sank an outside bucket, he'd yell his patented boom celebration like the Costco kids. He's turned into a sharpshooter from the outside as a near 40% shooter on decent volume. The defense might struggle at times, but the Thunder can afford to mask Williams. They built out one of the greatest defenses ever and have several high-quality defenders to make up for the 23-year-old's struggles. Plus, the drawn charges might not be what they used to be, but he can still pull that card out occasionally to force turnovers. After a decent regular season, Williams' importance increased in the playoffs. He provided the Thunder another look. He was a matchup weapon that helped them edge out the Denver Nuggets in their high-intensity seven-game playoff series. He was another body to throw at Nikola Jokic, who was abnormally inefficient for most of the series. There's also the locker room intangibles. Fans don't truly see the dynamics, but the Thunder have gone out of their way multiple times to emphasize how important Williams' personality was to gelling their group together. Most players at his spot could've had an ego about his role demotion. After all, he was a serviceable bench player his first two seasons who showed signs of growth. Instead, Williams remained a huge positive influence in the locker room. To the point that most Thunder players point to him as the most upbeat guy on the team. The traditional postgame interviews would go viral on social media solely off his reactions. That type of buy from one of your better players helped the rest of the roster stay on the same page to eventually win a championship. Moving Forward: Just repeat the same stuff. When you win an NBA championship, you need several role players to have career seasons. Williams was one of those guys. He was an end-of-bench guy who'd have a larger role in most other places. What should excite the Thunder is that he's still young enough to have more room to grow. They're banking on that. The Thunder committed to Williams for the long-term future this offseason. He was signed to a contract extension. It was a little bit of a surprise, honestly. It might also show that they think he could return as the backup center if Hartenstein leaves after next season. But that's a while away. For this upcoming season, Williams should build off of what he did. Expect a similar role as the third-string center who gets rotation minutes. The playmaking is too valuable not to have on the floor at all times. He can help the Thunder's bench lineup remain steady and also be an addition to what the starters do by being a kick-out option. The outside shot has helped Williams carve out an NBA career. If he can produce the same numbers, he'll be somebody you can rely on. That's been his best singular development. It's turned him into an actualized role player who could have a long career. If you're going to be a role player, you have to show reliability to knock down outside shots. He's done that. Maybe Williams can improve on his efficiency. He's pretty below average as a center in that area when looking at his shooting numbers. But that's easily explainable when you look at his shot diet. He takes mostly outside shots, so that naturally reflects on his main shooting splits. He's more of a forward tweener anyway than a traditional backup center. When you rebuild, you need to win on the margins. Williams' development perfectly fits that theory. The 2022 second-round pick has become one of the Thunder's best developmental stories. His role over the years has always changed. From starter to backup center to third-string center. Regardless of what OKC needed out of him, he's always delivered. That's such a roster luxury to have.
