#SHOWBIZ: Jessie J diagnosed with breast cancer, plans surgery after upcoming London festival
LONDON: English pop star Jessie J has revealed she has been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer and will undergo surgery following her performance at Capital's Summertime Ball in London next weekend.
The 37-year-old singer shared the news in an emotional Instagram video on Wednesday, with a caption that read: "I was diagnosed with early breast cancer. Cancer sucks in any form, but I'm holding onto the word 'early.'"
Known for her candid humour, the artiste added, "It's a very dramatic way to get a boob job. I'm going to disappear for a bit after Summertime Ball to have my surgery, and I'll come back with massive (expletive) and more music."
The Summertime Ball, a major annual music festival, is set to take place at Wembley Stadium on June 15.
Jessie stated she felt it was important to speak openly about her diagnosis.
"I just wanted to be open and share it. Selfishly, I don't talk about it enough. I'm not processing it because I'm working so hard. "But I know how much sharing in the past has helped me, through love, support, and hearing other people's stories.
"I'm an open book. It breaks my heart that so many people are going through something similar or worse; that's the part that kills me."
A Grammy-nominated artiste, she is known for her powerhouse vocals and R&B-infused pop hits, including 'Domino' and the chart-topping 2014 collaboration 'Bang Bang' with Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande.
She has released five albums, most recently the 2018 holiday project 'This Christmas Day,' and has been putting out new music in 2025, including singles 'Living My Best Life' and 'No Secrets.'
A new album is expected later this year.
Jessie is also a mother to her son, Sky Safir Cornish Colman, born in 2023.

Coldplay's Chris Martin, actress Dakota Johnson break up after almost 8 years
Dakota Johnson and Chris Martin got together in 2017, making their first public appearance in 2018, and were later reportedly engaged. Photos: Reuters, AFP American actress Dakota Johnson, 35, and English singer-songwriter Chris Martin, 48, have split, according to American magazine People . They started dating in 2017, making their first public appearance in 2018, and were later reportedly engaged. In August 2024, Johnson refuted break-up rumours, assuring they were 'happily together'. But one source told People : 'It feels final this time.' A few weeks ago, the couple were seen walking together in Malibu, United States where they share a home. They were also pictured together taking a stroll in a park in Mumbai, India, back in January, when Coldplay performed their Music Of The Spheres World Tour at DY Patil Stadium. During their eight-year relationship, Johnson developed strong ties with the British rock band frontman's children – Apple and Moses – from his previous relationship with American actress Gwyneth Paltrow. In a 2024 interview, Johnson had said: 'I love those kids like my life depends on it. With all my heart.' The Fifty Shades Of Grey (2015) star was seen on June 4 exiting The Greenwich Hotel in New York City without her engagement ring. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network

Elon Musk is not the father of my kids: Ayumi Hamasaki sets the record straight
Ayumi Hamasaki went on social media earlier this week to quash rthe umours that Elon Musk is her baby daddy. Photos: Ayumi Hamasaki/Instagram, AP Japanese pop diva Ayumi Hamasaki would like you to know that Elon Musk is not the father of her two children, thank you very much. This misunderstanding stemmed from a New York Times article in late May, where one of Musk's ex-flames, Ashley St. Clair, said that the American billionaire had fathered the child of "a Japanese pop star". Some netizens believe it's Japanese TV personality Tenka Hashimoto, while others suspect it's 46-year-old Hamasaki. For the record, Musk, 53, has already fathered 14 children with several different women. Hamasaki went on social media earlier this week to quash the rumours. 'I've been keeping an eye on this, and I guess it's time for me to speak up. Elon Musk is not the father of [either of] my kids," the singer said on Instagram on June 2. The J-pop star, who has been married twice, has two children aged six and four. She has remained tight-lipped about their father's identity. Hamasaki is more amused than upset at the rumours. She said: "I mean, I can understand if someone were to think it seems like the sort of thing I'd do. Even my mum laughed when she heard the rumours, saying, 'This seems kind of Ayu-like'." Hamasaki added that she felt the need to set the record straight for the sake of her children. 'Setting aside my personal image, when my kids are old enough to start Googling things I don't want them to run into the rumours and think they're true, so I'm firmly denying them," she said.
