Foo Fighters Release First New Song Since 2023, Pay Tribute To Former Band Members
In a lengthy note to accompany the release, Dave Grohl pays tribute to former band members including the recently fired drummer Josh Freese, founding drummer William Goldsmith, guitarist Franz Stahl and, most poignantly, the late drummer Taylor Hawkins, who died in 2022.

In a portion of the letter addressed to Hawkins, Grohl, who apparently plays drums on the new song, writes, 'Your name is spoken every day, sometimes with tears, sometimes with a smile, but you are still in everything we do, everywhere we go, forever. The enormity of your beautiful soul is only rivaled by the infinite longing we feel in your absence. We all miss you beyond words. Foo Fighters will forever include Taylor Hawkins in every note that we play, until we do finally reach our destination.'
The new song, described in a press release as the band's 'opening salvo of its next chapter,' arrives 30 years since the release of Foo Fighters self-titled debut album and is the first new music since Grohl announced last year that he had fathered a daughter outside of his marriage and asked for his family for forgiveness.
'Over the years, we've had moments of unbridled joy, and moments of devastating heartbreak,' Grohl writes. 'Moments of beautiful victory, and moments of painful defeat,' he wrote. 'We have mended broken bones and broken hearts. But we have followed this road together, with each other, for each other, no matter what. Because in life, you just can't go it alone.
'It should go without saying that without the boundless energy of William Goldsmith, the seasoned wisdom of Franz Stahl, and the thunderous wizardry of Josh Freese, this story would be incomplete, so we extend our heartfelt gratitude for the time, music, and memories that we shared with each of them over the years. Thank you, gentlemen.'
The band's current line-up includes Grohl (vocals and guitar), Rami Jaffee (keyboard), Nate Mendel (bass), Chris Shiflett (guitar) and Pat Smear (guitar). A new drummer has not been announced.
Foo Fighters have scheduled five overseas tour dates for this fall:
Oct 2 – Jakarta, ID – Carnaval Ancol
Oct 4 – Singapore, SG – F1
Oct 7 – Tokyo, JP – Saitama Super Arena
Oct 10 – Osaka, JP – Glion Arena Kobe
Nov 14 – Mexico City, MX – Corona Capital

‘South Park' creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are not happy about the Paramount/Skydance merger
'South Park' creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone don't find anything funny about the planned acquisition of Paramount Global by Skydance Media. 'In response to the press release from Comedy Central about the change in premiere date for South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone said: This merger is a s**tshow and it's f**king up South Park,' the two wrote in a post shared on social media. 'We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow.' 'South Park' airs on Comedy Central, which is a part of Paramount. The company is in the process of being sold to Skydance Media. New episodes of 'South Park' were scheduled to air after a two-year wait on July 9. The Season 27 premiere has been pushed to July 23. The delay comes amid uncertainty and negotiations over streaming rights to the popular animated property, according to Deadline. 'South Park' had an exclusive streaming contract with HBO Max that expired last week. Paramount Global recently announced an agreement to pay $16 million to resolve a lawsuit filed by President Donald Trump over a '60 Minutes' news report aired on CBS last fall. The merger is reportedly expected to close on July 6, though it could possibly be extended.

CRIMSON TIDE 2 Is Surfacing: Jerry Bruckheimer Teases Sequel, Eyes Denzel Washington's Return — GeekTyrant
It's been three decades since Crimson Tide first detonated in theaters. This was an intense, claustrophobic thriller of submarine warfare, nuclear standoffs, and powerhouse performances. I never thought we'd ever see a sequel, but producer Jerry Bruckheimer is ready to dive back into the deep. During a recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Bruckheimer revealed that a Crimson Tide sequel is in early development. 'We have a really good director and writer talking to the navy right now about what's going on under the water.' Bruckheimer didn't drop any names, but the project is in motion! The big question is will Denzel Washington return as Commander Hunter? Well, Bruckheimer said: 'If we give him a good script, I think he'd do it.' A source close to Washington confirmed that his involvement hinges entirely on the script, which, as of now, hasn't been completed. If Washington does come aboard, he'll be without his original on-screen counterpart. Gene Hackman, who played the hard-ass Captain Ramsey, passed away earlier this year at age 95. The original director, Tony Scott, and co-writer Robert Towne have also passed on. Reflecting on the original film's talent, Bruckheimer said: 'We had Tony Scott, a phenomenal director. We had Quentin Tarantino and Robert Towne, two of the greatest writers and directors, writing on that movie. … I don't know if I'll ever replicate that kind of writing for a film.' While Michael Schiffer received the official screenwriting credit, Crimson Tide went through several hands. Quentin Tarantino added uncredited dialogue punch-ups, and names like Warren Beatty, Al Pacino, Tommy Lee Jones, and Brad Pitt circled the project at various stages. Bruckheimer, who stopped by Eisen's show to promote his upcoming racing film F1 no stranger to slow-burn sequels. After all, it took nearly four decades to get Top Gun: Maverick off the ground. He's hoping the same won't be true for Crimson Tide 2 . As for the upcoming Top Gun 3 , Bruckheimer teased: 'I can't talk about [the story] yet, but it's a real good one.' I would love to see Bruckheimer get Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinki on board with this! I know he's make a badass sequel! The original movie is freakin' fantastic!
