SMARTPHONES don't have to cost the Earth - and going cheaper doesn't necessarily mean making huge compromises either.
Consumers are so spoilt for choice these days, it's almost hard to pick. But our crack Sun Tech team has chosen their top budget mobiles, revealing a slick handset that costs under £250 and a budget iPhone you've probably missed (with 26 HOURS of battery life, no less).

There's even a cheaper option for iPhone fans

Too often people tend to stick to what they know when upgrading, rather than considering more budget-friendly options that are just as good.
The Sun's tech team gets their hands on loads of smartphones all the time, from the big, fancy devices to the cheap handsets.
Technology has now got so good that even the cheaper phones pack a punch, with many of the must-have features you would expect in an expensive mobile.
This includes fantastic battery, great cameras and tools that are actually useful to you.
Here are the three we recommend buying this year so far.
CMF Phone 2 Pro

Jamie Harris - Assistant Technology and Science Editor
Chances are, you've never heard of CMF nor its parent brand Nothing.
The company only came about in 2020 and has shaken up the scene with much cheaper Android smartphones that do away with the usual bland designs.
I've not long reviewed the CMF Phone 2 Pro and I was impressed with the rugged look and how tough it felt in my hands.
The battery is also really good for a brand new phone this cheap, going well into the second day with regular usage.
Apple shows you tips and tricks on the new Iphone 16e with Apple Intelligence
So how much is it? A shocking £249.
Yes, there are some parts of it that aren't as good, such as its resistance to water, with a lower rating compared to other phones.
And while the camera isn't as impressive as others on the market you can still get some fairly decent shots.
You can read my full review on the CMF Phone 2 Pro here.
iPhone 16e

Sean Keach – Head of Technology and Science
Every year we all complain that the latest iPhone doesn't look all that different to last year's iPhone. Or even the one before that.
Well friends, that's a good thing.
It means most smartphones are now extremely good – even if you're buying a properly cheap model, or one that's a bit old.
Please don't feel like you have to splash out on the flashest mobile with a four-digit price tag. You almost certainly don't need one.
Enter the iPhone 16e, which is currently the cheapest model in Apple's line-up.
It came out earlier this year (so you can say it's new) and – to the untrained eye – looks just like the iPhone 16 (so you could feasibly pretend that it is one to your mates).
The battery life is wild. Apple says you'll get 26 hours of video playback from it – and I struggled to run it down in my iPhone 16e review.
In fact, it serves up four more hours of use per charge compared to the pricier iPhone 16.
It looks the part with an all-screen design (including a posh 6.1-inch OLED display that's probably better than your telly), Face ID scanning, and an Action Button that can be mapped to identify a song playing nearby or remind your daughter to feed the dog.
It's even sort of future-proofed because it supports Apple Intelligence AI tricks (even the iPhone 15 doesn't have that) thanks to the speedy processor on board, and also includes a USB-C charging port, for which cables are now extremely common.
And the upside is that this model costs £599, which is a whopping £200 less than the entry-level iPhone 16. Bargain.
That means you can get some very low monthly prices. We covered a Sky Mobile iPhone 16e deal recently that was £19 a month for the phone plus an extra £11 for 40GB of 5G data.
And let's be honest: when the new iPhone 17 comes out later this year, you can probably pretend you've got that too.
Samsung Galaxy A56

Millie Turner - Senior Technology and Science Reporter
While I'm an Apple girl through-and-through, the Galaxy A56 5G is a good enough deal to tempt even me.
This budget handset enjoys most of what's good about the main Galaxy S25 phones, without the eyewatering price.
For just £499, consumers can get a glossy new smartphone jam-packed with Galaxy AI features.
The A56 runs on Android 15 with Samsung's very latest One UI 7 on top.
That means it comes with some of Samsung's biggest AI tools, some of which only just landed on the much more expensive Galaxy S25 series.
Like the magic eraser, for example, which can remove objects from photos.
Or, the AI-powered auto trim tool that quickly cuts videos to their best moments.
Samsung has also pledged to offer up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades, as well as six years of security updates.
This is an increase from the four operating system updates and five years of security updates offered on the A55.
It means you get two extra years of not needing to upgrade your device, while still getting to enjoy some clever AI tools.

Apple fans rush to buy iPad Pro for £129 after 57% price slash

Shoppers will save £170 on this iPad Pro model through alternative deal. Apple has a wide range of products on the market, which are normally hailed for their high quality and impressive new features. Including smartphones, laptops and smart watches, there are a wide range of Apple products for fans to enjoy. One of the tech brand's most popular devices is the iPad. Ideal for catching up with your favourite shows on the go, these nifty devices also means users can get their work done without having to drag around a heavy laptop. However, these devices do come with a hefty price tag, with even the most basic modern iPad starting at over £300. If this is out of your price range but are set on buying the Apple device, it is advised that shoppers should look at some older models. Wowcher currently has a cracking deal on a refurbished 10.5-inch iPad Pro. Dropping from £299.99 down to £129, shoppers will be saving £170 on their purchase. However, it should be noted that this device is the model created in 2017. Equipped with the A10X Fusion chip, the device is still capable of performing most of the basic tasks shoppers would require a tablet to do - even if the chip is getting on a bit in terms of age, reports the Manchester Evening News. This iPad Pro even includes the old Apple design which included using a Home button. However, with 64GB of storage, this device has more than enough space to store all the must-have apps, photos and videos - although don't expect the speed or performance to be top of the range. iPad Pro Product Description It should also be noted that this 2017 iPad no longer receives update from Apple - leaving it on the iPadOS 17. This means users will not receive any security updates, leaving your stored items slightly more at risk than they would be with a later model. Additionally, as this is a refurbished model, the device has had previous owners and has since been restored by professionals. This means if shoppers choose to buy this iPad Pro there may be signs of cosmetic wear, but the tablet should work as it did when it was first unboxed. However, if shoppers want a more up to date Apple device, Amazon has slightly reduced the price of the iPad 11-inch. Normally retailing for £329, shoppers can grab it now for £309.97. Featuring the superfast A16 chip, shoppers will also get a stunning Liquid Retina display and 128GB of data. Alternatively, for those who want to try out an Android device, Argos currently has a deal on the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9. Normally retailing for £189, shoppers can drop the price by 20 per cent using the code RED20 at checkout - now £151.20. With a slightly smaller screen of eight inches, shoppers will still get 128GB of storage. Back to the Wowcher deal, the iPad Pro is brought to shoppers via INCTABLET, which currently has a 4.4 star rating on TrustPilot. One happy customer said: "Amazing staff and customer service. I had an issue with my iPad and it was resolved in 48 hours. That included the return of the iPad and a replacement arriving back to me." Another shopper also praised:"Just bought a used Apple iPad Pro from these guys, and what a great experience. Super competitive price, next-day despatch and the iPad was in pristine condition. Even came with a brand new charging cable. Can't praise them enough." Some reviewers left less positive three star reviews, with one reading: "When my iPad arrived on December 4th (a surprise gift for my son) the quality of the screen was unacceptable to me, as it had way to many scratches which I was not expecting. "However when I complained to the company IncTablet, they responded quickly that very same day and have apologised, offering to replace the iPad for a better one." A second three-star review says: "I ordered an iPad off Wowcher from this company over two weeks ago and I've only just heard back. I'm hoping it will be delivered by end of week, quite a quick email back to try resolve the issue." Despite this, another delighted shopper wrote: "Absolutely amazing products at amazing prices. I purchased a apple iPad Air 3 from these and it was in immaculate condition, very easy to purchase and very quick delivery too. I would definitely purchase from these again." Argos shoppers can snap up £19.99 Bluetooth tracker for £5 with deal

For those jetting off on holiday or Brits who are prone to misplacing their wallets or purses, a Bluetooth tracker can be a lifesaver. However, one significant downside is that some trackers, such as Apple's AirTag, can set shoppers back more than £20 each, which might be a bit steep. But we've found a deal for shoppers to snag a Eufy Bluetooth wallet tracker for £5. The EufySmartCard tracker is a slim gadget that can easily slip into most wallets and purses, enabling users to keep tabs on their belongings. For Apple aficionados, the device syncs with Apple Find My, allowing them to track the item finder and receive free alerts on their phone if they leave it behind. The items can also be tracked using the Eufy Security app. The Eufy wallet tracker also comes equipped with an alarm that can be triggered from a mobile phone to help locate the finder. Additionally, there's a button on the finder that can assist in locating a mobile phone. A word of caution to shoppers: this device is only compatible with iPhones. It can be attached to passports, wallets, purses or other items to prevent them from being forgotten - and shoppers can grab it for £5 with TopCashback, thanks to a free £15 cashback offer when they sign up. So, how do shoppers secure this price? All they need to do to claim the cashback offer is sign up for TopCashback, search for Argos and click 'Get Cashback Now'. Then simply shop for the tablet and checkout as usual. Shoppers who are new to both TopCashback (TCB) and Argos can now snag a deal where they'll only shell out £4.74 after cashback, while TCB newcomers who already shop with Argos will be paying £4.82 post-cashback. This slashes the regular price tag from £19.99. Meanwhile, if shoppers want an alternative, Apple diehards need not worry, however, as the Apple Air Tag is currently down to £28 on Amazon. Or the Tile Mate comes in at £20. However, if you opt for Tile, a downside is its paid-for subscription fees to unlock better tracking. Grab the eufy Bluetooth tracker for £5 from Argos Begin by signing up as new members via this given TopCashback link. Find Argos on the site and hit 'Get Cashback Now'. Shop and check out as usual on the Argos website. Sit tight; cashback will track and pop up in your TopCashback account within seven working days of the transaction. The eufy Bluetooth tracker has been receiving heaps of praise in customer reviews. One reviewer shared: "Easily fits in a wallet and app works well to pinpoint the location of the card. Only downside I can see is that the battery isn't replaceable." Some users, however, voiced concerns over the device's size. One individual remarked: "Imho, it is too bulky for small wallets/purse. Could be easily hidden inside a handbag though. I like the general idea but this item is definitely not for me/us. Personally I bought a tag from another brand which suits my needs much better. Just my opinion, everyone will be different." A happier user said: "What a absolutely amazing product I love the fact it blends in my wallet and was also brilliant hidden in my luggage it's such a slim design and brilliant at making sure my valuables are safe I will definitely be purchasing more! Such fabulous product that's easy to use"
