KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 (Bernama) -- Business communities, corporate leaders and industry captains across ASEAN, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, and China should seize the momentum created by the successful conclusion of high-level deliberations at the ASEAN-GCC-China Summit, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today.
Speaking at the inauguration of ASEAN-GCC-China Economic Forum here tonight, Anwar said that political leaders of the trio had done their part by ensuring policy clarity and regional stability, and it was now up to the private sector to act decisively.
'Because we have given our support, policies, there is clarity of policies. Now, you need to ensure that we benefit from this clear sounding position of the political leadership and clarity of economic policies.
'So, I look forward to this Fortune ASEAN-GCC-China Summit. Because we want to see results and it is your duty now to act and ensure that our countries benefit from one another.
'So much synergy, so much collaboration required and so much hope to fulfil the aspirations of our countries,' Anwar said.
Also present to officiate the opening ceremony was China's Premier Li Qiang.
Others in attendance were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad and Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
Among others present here were Minister of State for Foreign Trade of the United Arab Emirates Dr Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi; Saudi Minister of Investment, Khalid Abdulaziz Al-Falih; Vietnam Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Timor-Leste's Minister of Commerce and Industry, Filipus Nino Pereira.

Capital A CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes KUALA LUMPUR: Capital A Bhd remains optimistic about its 2025 prospects and is committed to delivering strong operational and financial performance to ensure sustainable returns for shareholders. We anticipate providing further updates as developments unfold,' Fernandes said. In the first quarter ended March 31 (1Q25), Capital A posted a net profit of RM689.6mil, or earnings per share of 15.90, compared with a net loss of RM91.5mil, or loss per share of 2.20 in the year-ago quarter. Revenue for the quarter rose 15.2% to RM414.5mil against RM359.8mil last year. Fernandes said plans are taking shape for the brand company, Abc., to further grow its existing brands, expand its portfolio through acquiring strong Asean brands, and provide consultancy services to international brands seeking to enter the region. 'With our more than two decades of brand-building experience in Asean, we believe there is a lot of value to be unlocked, the only way we know how. We plan to revisit the opportunity to list Abc. on Nasdaq. 'I'm confident 2025 will be a defining year for Capital A.' Meanwhile, Capital A is now close to finalising a RM1bil private placement. However, it must first secure consent from two remaining aircraft lessors and obtain clearance from Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the latter of which has experienced delays. 'As a result, the overall timeline is expected to shift, with completion now targeted by 3Q25,' it said.

PM Anwar: Malaysia invites Myanmar conflict groups for dialogue in Kuala Lumpur
SINGAPORE — Malaysia has taken the initiative to invite different groups in the Myanmar conflict for a dialogue in Kuala Lumpur in a bid to find a lasting solution to the ongoing crisis, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said today. He said the invitation was extended to the groups last month. 'I've started…and I urge my counterparts to send their teams, officials and military personnel intelligence to continue to engage,' he said during a question-and-answer session following his Special Address at the Shangri-La Dialogue, here. When asked about the possibility of elections in Myanmar, Anwar said the immediate priority is to ensure peace, security, and the delivery of humanitarian aid. He noted that ASEAN leaders have continued to push for an extended ceasefire and the protection of all humanitarian aid workers. 'If the elections are fair and more inclusive and do not exclude parties, then of course, we are ready to accept, although (the process) may not be perfect,' he added. Myanmar's State Administration Council (SAC), in March, announced that they will hold a general election either in December this year or January 2026 at the latest, according to international media reports. — BERNAMA

Fahmi urges Malaysian students in Japan to embrace disciplined work culture
TOKYO: Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has encouraged Malaysian students in Japan to adopt the country's disciplined and efficient work culture upon returning home, to contribute to national development. He also urged them to explore work opportunities in Japan to gain valuable experience that could benefit Malaysia in the long run. Fahmi is in Tokyo to attend the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity Ministerial Meeting (APT-MM) 2025, held from May 30 to 31. The meeting aims to boost regional cooperation in telecommunications and information technology. Also present at the gathering were Deputy Head of Mission at the Malaysian Embassy in Tokyo Anwar Udzir and embassy staff. The session was attended by 38 participants, including 11 members of the Malaysian diaspora and 27 students from various universities in and around Tokyo.
