
Qatar spikers set for 1st West Asian meet in Bahrain

Qatar's national volleyball team will begin their campaign against Saudi Arabia on Saturday in the inaugural edition of the West Asian Men's Volleyball Championship, taking place in Bahrain from July 17 to 27.
The prestigious regional tournament brings together eight national teams from across West Asia to compete at the highest level.
Qatar have been drawn in Group B alongside Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Oman, while Group A includes Bahrain, Jordan, the UAE, and Lebanon.
Qatar's second clash will be against Oman on July 20 before facing Kuwait in the final group stage match the following day.
Qatar's preparations have intensified with daily training sessions at the Qatar Volleyball Association Hall under the supervision of Argentine coach Camilo Soto.
The players have been showing strong commitment as they aim to deliver a performance worthy of the national team.
Coach Soto emphasized that the championship is a key milestone in the team's preparation, praising the players' performance in the recent Asian Nations Championship, also hosted by Bahrain, where Qatar claimed the bronze medal.
Qatar player Dhahi Mubarak stressed the importance of maintaining high focus throughout the tournament.
Hosts Bahrain, in coordination with the West Asia Volleyball Association, are ensuring that all logistical, organizational, and technical aspects are aligned with international standards.
The organizing committee is working diligently on venue readiness, team accommodations, transportation, and event protocols to guarantee a successful and smooth championship.

Tickets for FIFA World Cup 2026 to go on sale from Sept 10

The first ordering window and subsequent draw for tickets will begin that day. To be in with a chance of winning tickets for the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada, interested parties must create a so-called FIFA ID on the federation's website. FIFA advised people to do this as soon as possible. Tickets will be sold in several phases until the final on Sunday July 19, 2026. 'We're looking forward to welcoming the world back to North America, as Canada, Mexico and the United States host what will be the biggest and greatest sporting event ever. FIFA's new flagship club competition united 32 of the world's best club sides and attracted close to 2.5 million fans to 11 cities across the United States, setting the stage for what's to come in 2026. With 6.5 million fans expected to attend, the 2026 edition of the FIFA World Cup will be the biggest FIFA World Cup yet, consisting of 48 teams and 104 matches across the three host countries. Fans should start planning now in order to be there when it happens – to witness greatness and be part of this historic tournament and its enthralling in-stadium experience. The matchup follows Qatar's close 77-82 loss to Australia in a high-intensity game that remained competitive until the final moments. Despite the defeat, Qatar's reserve squad delivered one of its strongest performances against a formidable opponent. The team led 21-19 after the first quarter but trailed slightly in the second, with Australia edging out 19-15. The third quarter ended in a 19-19 tie, while Australia secured the win in the fourth quarter with a 25-22 advantage, clinching the game by a narrow five-point margin. With this result, Qatar's reserve team holds four points in the group standings, earned through a victory over the UAE and losses to Japan and Australia.
