Teacher suspended over charge of smoking on school premises
The suspension order was issued by Harkirat Kaur Chane, director, school education (elementary), after the matter was brought to the attention of the education department.
The suspended teacher, who was working under the Elementary Trained Teacher (ETT) cadre, faced multiple complaints from both parents and panchayat members. According to the formal complaint submitted by the village panchayat, the teacher was repeatedly accused of poor behaviour with students and smoking on the school premises, which reportedly left several students unwilling to attend school.
"Despite repeated warnings, her behaviour did not improve. Students were scared to come to school, and her actions were having a harmful impact on the children," stated a complaint from panchayat to the DEO. The teachers further alleged that parents had regularly reported the teacher's erratic behaviour, leading to a sharp decline in student attendance.
The panchayat highlighted that the teacher had admitted to smoking on the school premises, a serious violation of conduct and school discipline.

Parents had voiced concerns that such behaviour not only violated norms but also set a poor example for impressionable children.
In response to the complaints, Ravinder Kaur, district education officer (Elementary), confirmed the suspension. "We have acted promptly after receiving the complaint. The teacher has been suspended with immediate effect, and an inquiry will be conducted. Further action will be based on the findings of this investigation," she stated.
She also said that the teacher had previously been suspended from another primary school, raising concerns over how she was reinstated without proper behavioural assessment.

1 2 Dhanbad: Sanjiv Singh, the former BJP MLA from Jharia, was granted bail by the Supreme Court on Friday. Sanjiv has been in jail since 2017 on charges of conspiring to kill his cousin and former Dhanbad deputy mayor, Niraj Singh, and four others. Sanjiv won from the Jharia seat in 2014 assembly election. His wife Ragini is the incumbent Jharia MLA and won on a BJP ticket. Sanjiv's counsel Mohammad Jawed said, "A three-judge bench of the Apex Court comprising Chief Justice B R Gavai, Justice Vinod Chandran, and Justice N B Anjaria granted him bail in the case after hearing the matter." "Several other accused in the case, including Rinku Singh and Dablu Mishra, have already been granted bail by the High Court, while Pintu Singh, Sanjay Singh, Dhanji Singh, Chandan Singh, and Kurban Ali were granted bail earlier by the SC. The bench was also apprised of Sanjiv's ill health and the need for medical treatment. Considering these factors, the court allowed his bail plea," Jawed said. SVU raids premises of J'bad DSP, unearths ₹1.52cr in assets
1 2 3 Patna: Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) on Friday raided three locations linked to Jehanabad deputy superintendent of police (headquarters) Sanjeev Kumar, following allegations that he had amassed disproportionate assets worth Rs 1.52 crore, far exceeding his known income. The searches were conducted at his luxury bungalow in Patna, his official residence in Jehanabad and a multi-storey hospital in Khagaria. An FIR had been registered against Kumar in Jehanabad for acquiring assets beyond his known sources of income. In a statement, additional director general of the SVU, Pankaj Kumar Darad, said, "The SVU in Patna registered a case against Sanjeev on Aug 7. The case was filed under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018), and the Indian Penal Code, alleging possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. " Darad added that the allegations indicated Kumar had acquired wealth during his govt service far beyond what could be justified by his salary and other legitimate earnings. Following the FIR, the SVU obtained a search warrant from the vigilance court and carried out coordinated raids in Patna, Jehanabad and Khagaria. The searches revealed a four-storey house in Ramnagari, Patna, a multi-storey hospital in Khagaria and 10 trucks registered in the name of his wife. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Accounting Help Made Simple legal directorate Learn More Undo Investigators also found a substantial bank account under her name, which could potentially double the initial estimate of his disproportionate assets. At his Patna residence, the SVU found investments in agricultural land worth Rs 23.5 lakh in Begusarai, a plot purchased for Rs 20 lakh in Khagaria and another in Samastipur costing around Rs 11 lakh. An SUV and a motorcycle were also seized. In Khagaria, documents confirmed ownership of the 10 trucks, valued at around Rs 3 crore. Several bank accounts in both Kumar's and his wife's names were identified, prompting further scrutiny. Jewellery worth Rs 38 lakh was also recovered, according to the ADG. From his official residence in Jehanabad, investigators seized papers indicating his involvement in fuel supply for the trucks. It is alleged that during his tenure in Khagaria, Kumar colluded with land mafias, investing lakhs in various plots of land. Darad said, "The authorities plan to file an application in the competent court to confiscate the disproportionate assets discovered during the raids. The assets found during the search exceed the figures mentioned in the FIR, indicating a substantial increase in the estimated value of his wealth."
