Apple is officially broadening its Self Service Repair Program to include iPads, giving users access to genuine parts and tools to fix their own tablets at home.
Originally launched in April 2022 as a DIY repair initiative for iPhones, the Self Service Repair Program has since grown to include Macs. Now, starting May 29 , Apple is adding select iPads to the list — marking the first time users can attempt home repairs on the company's tablets.
Welcome to right-to-repair, iPad. | Image credit — PhoneArena Users can now order official Apple parts, tools, and manuals for supported iPad models through the Self Service Repair Store. The program currently covers components such as batteries, displays, cameras, and charging ports. Customers also have access to troubleshooting resources and guided repair sessions to assist with the process. At launch, eligible iPads include :
iPad Air (M2 and newer)
iPad Pro (M4)
iPad mini (A17 Pro)
iPad (A16)
As with iPhone and Mac repairs, users must return the replaced 'core' part to Apple to receive credit toward their purchase, which is an effort to encourage recycling and reduce waste. With this addition, the Self Service Repair Program now supports a total of 65 Apple devices across multiple product lines. Apple positions the program as a way for customers to extend the life of their hardware while maintaining high standards for safety, privacy, and reliability.Brian Naumann, Apple's Vice President of AppleCare, said:To me, this is a sign that Apple will continue to expand the Self Service Repair program gradually with time, embracing the right-to-repair movement even more in the future. The process still isn't particularly cheap or simple, and for many users, going to a Genius Bar can still make more sense. But for those who are comfortable with a toolkit and appreciate having the choice, this is a win.
Next up — Canada Right alongside the iPad rollout, Apple also announced that Self Service Repair will arrive in Canada later this summer. That will bring the total number of countries to 34.
While most users are still likely to rely on Apple Stores and authorized service providers for major repairs, this update gives tech-savvy customers an official route to fix their iPads at home—without voiding warranties or resorting to third-party components.

iPhone 17 Air's chipset detailed

Vlad, 12 August 2025 The iPhone 17 family is rumored to be launching on September 9. Ahead of that, there have been countless rumors telling us that the iPhone 17 Air will replace the iPhone 16 Plus in Apple's roster, due to the latter's lackluster sales performance. But this leaves a mystery regarding which chipset the Air will go with. Will it be a Pro SoC or not? Apple's Pro iPhones obviously use the Pro chipset, but the Air is not a Pro, so will it have the same chip as the vanilla iPhone 17? A new rumor out of China says no to that, revealing that in fact the Air will use the A19 Pro SoC. But there's a small catch. It won't be exactly the same A19 Pro chip that will feature in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Instead, the Air's version will have a lesser GPU, with one less core. That's the only difference. So while the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max's A19 Pro will come with six GPU cores, the iPhone 17 Air's will have just five. The iPhone 17 Air's screen will also reportedly not be quite at the level of the iPhone 17 Pro's, according to the same source. The Air is now rumored to be 5.65mm to 5.7mm thick. This rumor contradicts a previous one from July, which claimed the iPhone 17 Air would be equipped with the A19 chip just like the iPhone 17. Obviously, we can't be sure which one is accurate. Epic Games defeats Apple and Google in Australian court, Fortnite returns to iOS in another market

Michail, 12 August 2025 Fortnite is one step closer to making its comeback in Australia as Epic Games secured its latest court wins in two separate cases against Apple and Google. The Federal Court of Australia concluded that both Apple and Google violated the local competition law by abusing their market power in how they operate their app stores. The 30% in-app commission fees charged by both Apple and Google were signaled out as key instances of limiting competition. Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney confirmed that Fortnite will make its return to iOS devices in Australia via the Epic Games store soon. While the latest ruling is big for Epic, the court rejected some of the Fortnite maker's claims, including accusations of breached consumer law and engagement in 'unconscionable conduct' by Apple and Google. Apple and Google issued official statements with both companies disagreeing with the court's verdict against their billing policies and claims of anticompetitive advantages. Epic launched its legal fight against Apple in Australia back in November 2020 and later filed similar anti-competition claims against Google in March 2021. Both cases are handled simultaneously by the Federal Court of Australia, and the 2,000+ page verdict won't be released publicly for now. Source

Samsung beats Apple for the 'super-premium' throne in this huge smartphone market

India has been a very important battlefield for the world's top smartphone vendors for many years now, and the latest regional sales report put together by the International Data Corporation (IDC) provides quite a few interesting and somewhat conflicting findings for a lot of major mobile hardware brands. The likes of Vivo, Samsung, Apple, Oppo, Motorola, Xiaomi, and OnePlus all have reasons to be delighted... and disappointed with their Q2 2025 smartphone shipment figures in the world's most populous nation, and just like when we discussed those numbers published by Counterpoint Research a couple of weeks back, it's difficult to name the region's biggest winner... or biggest loser for this year's April to June timeframe. If you're the least bit familiar with the Indian smartphone market, you probably already know that iPhones aren't as popular as many affordable Android devices. But I bet you didn't expect to see Apple surpassed by Motorola in addition to Vivo, Samsung, Oppo, Realme, and Xiaomi. That's right, the Cupertino-based tech giant is only India's seventh-largest smartphone vendor as of the end of Q2 2025 despite boosting its market share from 6.7 percent during last year's April-June quarter to 7.5 percent now and improving its sales numbers by a solid 19.7 percent year-on-year. Vivo was number one in Q2 2024, and is still India's top smartphone vendor. Incredibly enough, Motorola managed to bump up its own second-quarter scores by a whopping 39.4 percent between 2024 and 2025, and even more incredibly, there were at least two brands that registered bigger progresses in the same period of time. Specifically, 84.9 percent for Nothing (which is however still not one of the country's top ten vendors), and 68.4 percent for IQOO (which is ranked right behind Apple and ahead of Poco and OnePlus in eight place). OnePlus, mind you, registered the largest decline between its Q2 2024 and Q2 2025 shipment scores in India, at a painful 39.4 percent, followed by Poco and Xiaomi. All in all, the IDC estimates that Q2 sales jumped by a healthy 7.3 percent from last year, but if you add the numbers from the previous quarter, you get a 70 million total for 2025's first six months that's only 0.9 percent larger than the market's H1 2024 tally. Of course, any progress is better than no progress, but the country's annual growth after a mediocre 2024 is expected to be "limited" by "subdued consumer demand" over the remainder of 2025. What's the difference between the "premium" and "super-premium" segments? A phone's price, of course, with models available for anywhere between $600 and $800 falling in the former category and those costing more than $800 earning a place in the latter. Surprisingly (or not), that means Samsung has the most successful super-expensive smartphones in India, undoubtedly spearheaded by the state-of-the-art Galaxy S25 Ultra. Before doing a victory dance in front of their iPhone-loving friends and foes, however, Galaxy aficionados should know that their favorite brand's advantage over Apple in India's super-premium division was almost negligible, at 49 to 48 percent market share. Those are some very interesting fluctuations for almost all major brands... apart from Vivo. Meanwhile, Apple's lead over... everyone else in the "standard" premium segment was absolutely massive, as the "vanilla" iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 came together to account for more than 60 percent of the category's shipments. Also, this was by far the market's largest grower of all categories, at almost 100 percent. Of course, the "mass budget" and "entry-premium" segments remain easily the biggest of the bunch, at 42 and 27 percent shares respectively, and those categories are obviously not dominated by Apple. Instead, Vivo continues to sell the largest number of smartphones priced between $100 and $400 in India, followed by Oppo and Samsung. That explains Vivo's overall market supremacy, as well as Apple's inability to crack even the nation's top five vendors group, let alone the top three.
