State Highway 1 through the Desert Road in the central North Island is closed, due to a crash.
Police say two cars collided and there appeared to be serious injuries.
The road is blocked near the Oturere Stream.
"Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and expect delays," police said.

No serious injuries had been reported, a police spokesperson said, but ambulance staff were at the scene assessing people. The circumstances surrounding the crash would be investigated by police. By 6.30pm the road was open, and police could be seen talking to people beside the bus which was pulled on to the side of the road.
