All Coronation Street spoilers for next week as a legend's exit looms

Metro14-05-2025

There are shocks aplenty coming up in Coronation Street, with three episodes that Metro Soaps has affectionately dubbed Craig Week.
This is, of course, because we're bidding farewell to Colson Smith as Craig Tinker after a 14 year stretch on the cobbles.
The ITV soap is lining up a special dedicated set of instalments that will delve further into Kit Green's (Jacob Roberts) history with dastardly Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton).
Poor Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) is caught in the crossfire as the men come face to face – with Mick promising that he won't leave without blood on his hands, while Craig is seemingly attacked on duty.
His life hangs in the balance as his loved ones rush to the hospital, but will he make it out alive? If early reports are anything to go by, probably not.
Plus, when Lou Michaelis (Farrel Hegarty) makes a bid for a happier future, Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) left in charge of her young children.

Here's a look at everything that's happening in Weatherfield next week…
When Bernie catches Brody shoplifting, Kit begins to pursue him. The altercation leads to more words said between the copper and Mick, who lets slip that Lou isn't as loyal as she makes out to be.
Furious, Mick confronts his wife and tension quickly begins to rise. Sean (Antony Cotton) and Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) then become concerned when they're unable to get in touch with her, and fear that she might have been attacked.
Fearing the worst, Sean marches down to the station and decides to change his earlier statement that would've incriminated Mick for assaulting him.
Back on the cobbles, Lou nurses a head wound, and urges Mick to come home and talk. Instead, he races off in his van and when Kit calls him, he blames him for everything that has ever gone wrong in his life and has now decided to take matters into his own hands.
Elsewhere, Craig is thrilled to be able to shadow Kit as part of his CID placement and to his excitement, he's even secured a date with someone from an app.
Later, he feels slightly deflated after noticing that Kit has ignored him all day. Lisa (Vicky Myers) tells Craig to prove to him that he's capable of achieving great things, and when he's called out to a disturbance, it could be just the ticket.
Something has gone terribly wrong and Maria (Samia Longchambon) finds Craig bleeding to death on the pavement. An ambulance is called, and Asha (Tanisha Gorey) rushes him to the hospital.
In intensive care, Lisa learns that he has swelling on the brain. Luckily, he regains consciousness just in time to tell Asha what he knows about his attack.
However, when colleague Jess (Donnaleigh Bailey) arrives to question him, his condition seriously deteriorates.
Elsewhere, Lou tells daughters Shanice and Joanie that they need to leave for a few days. Tim picks them up in his cab, but when he notices the cut to her head, insists that they stop by A&E first.
The nurse realises that she's in an abusive relationship, but Lou refuses to admit to it and does a runner. Tim is stunned when he's left with the two youngsters.
At the Redbank Apartments, Sarah (Tina O'Brien) enters her flat and has no idea that Mick has followed her there – and is looking for Kit.
He declares that his old mate has ruined his life, and she must summon him to the building so that he can kill him.
Bernie somehow finds herself as Mick's hostage, and he decides to use her as a way to bargain with Kit.
She assures Mick that he's mistaken, as the relationship between mother and son is so fractured that Kit doesn't care where she is.
When the copper does arrive, he realises that Bernie's life is in danger. She makes a plea to Kit, trying to tell him that she attempted contact on multiple occasions but his adoptive mother wouldn't allow it.

Back at the hospital, Lisa takes a call from Jess, who fills her in on the situation. Tim, Sally (Sally Dynevor) Gemma and Chesney (Sam Aston) are appalled by the situation, and comfort one another following a difficult day.
Kirk (Andrew Whyment) then has to make a difficult call to Beth (Lisa George), to explain what has happened to Craig.
Elsewhere, Tim wonders where Lou has fled to as he supports Shanice and Joanie, and Lisa tells Carla (Alison King) that she wants to find happiness wherever she can after the traumatic day.

Psychological thriller labelled a ‘masterpiece' free to stream on BBC iPlayer

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A 'masterpiece' psychological thriller is making its way to BBC iPlayer. Released in 2021, The Power of the Dog stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Jesse Plemons, and Kirsten Dunst and is based on the 1967 novel of the same name by Thomas Savage. The film follows wealthy ranching brothers Phil (Cumberbatch) and George Burbank (Plemons) who meet widow Rose (Dunst) and her son Peter (Kodi Smit-McPhee) during a cattle drive. The volatile and brash Phil takes a dislike to Rose, but George strikes up a relationship with her – which eventually leads them to marry – and Rose and Peter to move to the Burbank ranch house. As Phil taunts Rose, he appears to take Peter under his wing, but his intentions don't seem as clear-cut to Rose. For those who didn't catch the award-winning hit, or just want to rewatch, it is now free to stream on BBC iPlayer, as well as Netflix. The Power of the Dog proved an instant hit following its premiere at the 2021 Venice Film Festival, garnering a whopping 12 Oscar nominations and seven Golden Globe nods. It is often cited as one of the best films of 2021, and indeed of the decade as a whole, and was named one of the best films of 2021 by the American Film Institute. It currently holds a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critics' consensus reading: 'Brought to life by a stellar ensemble led by Benedict Cumberbatch, The Power of the Dog reaffirms writer-director Jane Campion as one of her generation's finest filmmakers.' Metro critic Tori Brazier dubbed the film a 'taut and emotional epic' in her review, adding: 'A rich and detailed character study for each of its excellent four leads – and especially Cumberbatch and Smit-McPhee, who is an admirable scene partner – The Power of the Dog brings everything you'd expect, and hope for, from the writer and director of The Piano. 'The film is like watching a play, so focused is it on the minutiae of seemingly small human actions and emotions, and so nuanced in its storytelling.' The New York Times wrote: 'The Power of the Dog builds tremendous force, gaining its momentum through the harmonious discord of its performances, the nervous rhythms of Jonny Greenwood's score and the grandeur of its visuals.' More Trending USA Today lauded The Power of the Dog a 'picturesque, enthralling exploration of male ego and toxic masculinity, crafted by an extremely talented woman and offering enough nuanced bite to keep it interesting till the very end.' InSession Film said: 'Much has already been said about Jane Campion's western masterpiece, and for good reason. It is indeed truly great. Benedict Cumberbatch gives a career-best performance.' Heaping praise on Cumberbatch, with Ty Burr writing on his Substack: 'How do we know Benedict Cumberbatch is a serious thespian? Because we have no idea who he is offscreen. He's just entirely the role he's playing at any given moment, and those roles change radically.' The Power of the Dog is streaming on BBC iPlayer and Netflix Got a story? Netflix fans go wild for 'brilliant' British drama 'not to be missed' a decade on from its ITV release to rave reviews

Netflix fans have gone wild for a 'brilliant' British drama 'not to be missed' a decade on from its ITV release. The three-part biopic, titled Cilla, first hit screens on ITV back in 2014. Following 'Cilla Black's rocky path from Liverpool clubs to the top of the charts,' according to the synopsis, the drama has since been added to Netflix. Cilla was a famous singer and television presenter, known for her hit singles You're My World and Anyone Who Had A Heart. The series explores the famous singer's relationships including with Bobby Willis and Brian Epstein. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Cilla was a famous singer and television presenter, known for her hit singles You're My World and Anyone Who Had a Heart Sheridan Smith plays the titular star, alongside Aneurin Barnard, John Henshaw and others. In the show, Sheridan dons a sleek ginger bob - strikingly different to her longer, blonde locks. Cilla has received raving reviews by fans and one penned on Google: 'Brilliant portrayal of Cilla by Sheridan Smith who also sings all the songs! Wow! The whole cast were fabulous. One not to be missed!' 'Brilliant. Loved this series, Smith always smashes it,' someone else said. Another added: 'Great performance by all and gives a great feel for the early 60's in Liverpool.' The show was a hit when it first aired over a decade ago, and triggered Cilla's music to be back in the charts. Thousands flocked to buy Cilla's 1964 Number 1 smash Anyone Who Had A Heart after Sheridan performed it on the show back in 2014. The classic track was at number 46 in the midweek chart, as well as reaching the top of the Irish charts. Cilla has received raving reviews by fans and some took to Google to leave their verdicts Cilla, who sadly passed away aged 72 in 2015, watched the show and gave Sheridan her seal of approval for portraying her. The Liverpudlian told the Daily Mirror: 'It's a strange experience seeing other people recreating your life... I was a bit worried when I heard that Sheridan was playing me because I'd only ever seen her as Mrs Biggs'. However she added: 'I needn't have worried because Sheridan is absolutely terrific. I can't fault her. But God knows how she sang so well with those false teeth in', during an interview with the newspaper's Rachael Bletchly. It comes as Blind Date is set to make a sensational return to TV after 22 years away from screens. The legendary dating show - famously hosted by the late Cilla Black from 1985 to 2003 - is eyeing up Claudia Winkleman, Holly Willoughby or Davina McCall to host the revival. Originally, rumours suggested the ITV hit would make a comeback on BBC but now sources claim the love-match show will reboot on Disney+. An insider told The Sun: 'Although there's likely to be some modern twists, the bosses very much want to keep the essence of the original. 'There'll be key elements returning, including the famous sliding wall. The legendary dating show - famously hosted by the late Cilla Black from 1985 to 2003 - hopes to get Davina (pictured) in the mix 'Plus there will be a prize up for grabs of a wedding package, which echoes Cilla's famous gag whenever couples had enjoyed a successful date, and she used to ask, "Do I need to buy an 'at for the wedding?"' MailOnline has contacted Disney+ for comment. In March, former This Morning host Holly was tipped to become the next Cilla, with the presenter lining up a string of big-money deals worth up to £10million. The revival was previously being considered by Holly's husband Dan Baldwin, and the star had previously stepped into Cilla's shoes when she hosted a reboot of Surprise Surprise. Cilla is available to stream on Netflix.
