124 seized vehicles, including Ducati, auctioned by RTD
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 124 seized vehicles were auctioned off by the Federal Territories Road Transport Department (KL RTD) in a public auction held today.
KL RTD director Hamidi Adam said that 108 of the vehicles were deemed roadworthy and could be re-licensed, while the remainder were suitable only for scrapping by successful bidders.
"A total of 85 bidders attended. The auction began at 9.30am and concluded at 1.30pm. One of the highest bids recorded was RM20,350 for a 2013 Ducati motorcycle," he said when met at the venue.
Hamidi said that a vehicle's age was not a determining factor for auction eligibility; instead, this would depend on the court's forfeiture process.
"We have a wide range of seized vehicles, from recent models — such as those from 2021 — to others over 20 years old.
"Among the seized vehicles were those without valid road tax, insurance, or driving licences. Once seized, owners and financiers are notified to settle their summonses. If they fail to respond within three months, the forfeiture process is initiated in court," he added.
The auction featured 105 motorcycles, 13 cars, and six rigid lorries.
Total proceeds amounted to RM245,500, which included RM8,500 from the sale of auction booklets.
The highest successful bid was RM27,000, while the lowest was RM200 for a vehicle marked for disposal.

He was charged under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by dangerous or reckless driving, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years' imprisonment and a fine of up to RM50,000 upon conviction. Sun's counsel Terrence Tiong said in mitigation that his client was a first-time offender with no previous convictions in Malaysia or his home country. Tiong said the accused had also taken steps to help the victim's family. MARA education foundation provides RM1,000 aid to UPSI crash victims' families
IPOH: The MARA Education Foundation (YPM) has disbursed immediate cash assistance of RM1,000 to the next of kin of each Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) student involved in the bus crash on the East-West Highway (JRTB) near Tasik Banding, Gerik, early Monday morning. MARA chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the aid aimed to ease the burden on the victims' families, most of whom came from modest or underprivileged backgrounds. 'Today, I had the opportunity to represent Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in visiting the victims of the bus crash involving UPSI students at the JRTB and in handing over the assistance. 'So we hope this immediate RM1,000 contribution can help reduce the burden of the families who came today to visit the victims of this truly heartbreaking tragedy,' he said in a Facebook post today. In the incident that occurred at about 1.10 am on the JRTB near Tasik Banding, Gerik, 15 UPSI students were killed in a crash involving a tour bus and a Perodua Alza.
