Brenda Song Dropped By Agent After The Social Network

Buzz Feed08-06-2025
Brenda Song says she was dropped by her agent after taking a role in — wait for it — The Social Network. I know — of all things! Let me explain.
If you remember, Brenda appeared in the David Fincher film as Eduardo Saverin's girlfriend, Christy Ling.
It was a small role, but obviously one of a lifetime, which is why Brenda decided to take it. Unfortunately, her agents at the time had other ideas in mind, and when Brenda chose to go with The Social Network over a starring role, they dropped her!
Brenda explained the whole situation in a recent conversation captured by The Wrap.
She said, "There was another project that I had booked when I also booked The Social Network and my agents very much pushed me for the other project. [They're] like, 'It's a lead role, it's a big movie. This is amazing, this is it.'"
"I was like, 'David Fincher is one of my favorite directors of all time,'" Brenda continued. "They're like, 'It's two scenes,' but I'm like, 'This is what I really wanted.' And my agents dropped me over this decision."
Brenda recalled being "really upset" at the time because she'd been trying to find her footing after The Suite Life of Zack & Cody — but looking back, she's glad she followed her gut.
"You have to follow your gut instinct because it's your life. It's about your life experience, it's not about the outcome," Brenda shared. "I realize now that for me, when I make a project, I'm not making it for the final product. I love the process, I love being on set, I love my castmates. My favorite moments of my job are between 'action' and 'cut,' and growing up on a set, it's where I feel most safe, so I always try to say I don't ever want to do a project that I wouldn't stand on the firing line for because it's not a final product, it's about your experience."
"But yeah, I thought I fucked up at that moment," she laughed, "but I guess I didn't."
I surely hope so! You can catch Brenda on Running Point now and check out the clip of her remarks here.

Gal Gadot Says Snow White Flopped Because Of Israel

Let's not mince words: Disney's recent live-action remake of Snow White was a bit of a disaster. The reviews weren't great, and the box office performance was worse — grossing $205 million against a budget that hovered between $240 and $270 million. The film performed so badly that Disney reportedly halted production on any more live-action remakes at the time. The reason for why the film didn't do well really depends on who you ask. It is worth noting that there was rumors of "tension" between Snow White stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot during the film's press run, and that Rachel had received backlash for her support of the Palestinian people. Gal — who served in the Israeli Defense Force for two years — recently gave an interview on Israeli TV (via The Wrap) where she commented on Snow White's reception, and why she think the film underperformed. One notable comment: Despite the previous reports of tension, Gal said that she had a good time filming with Rachel. "We laughed, talked, and had fun," she said of her working relationship with her costar. Gal went on to claim that despite her belief that Snow White "would be a huge happening in all kinds of industries and also in Hollywood, is that there's a lot of pressure on celebrities to bring up things against Israel,' seemingly suggesting that pressure to speak against Israel contributed to Snow White's box office performance. 'You can always explain and try to give people in the world a context about what's happening [in Israel] and what the reality is here, but in the end people decide for themselves,' she added. 'I was disappointed that the movie was greatly affected by that and didn't do well at the box office.' OK then!

Quentin Tarantino is happy with David Fincher taking on Once Upon A Time In Hollywood spin-off

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. It's been almost three decades since Quentin Tarantino left another director to handle one of his scripts (the last being From Dusk Till Dawn). Now, David Fincher is being tasked with taking care of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood stuntman, Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt), for the new film, The Adventures of Cliff Booth, for Netflix, and he couldn't be happier with his replacement. During a discussion on The Church of Tarantino podcast, Tarantino explained what it meant that Fincher was a blessing that halted any interference with his plans for his tenth film to be his last, amid the upcoming torch passing of the character and the world. 'I love this script, but I'm still walking down the same ground I've already walked. It just kind of unenthused me. This last movie, I've got to not know what I'm doing again. I've got to be in uncharted territory.' By the sounds of things, there was also no better director at the helm to handle the film, which takes place eight years after Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. 'I think me and David Fincher are the two best directors. So the idea that David Fincher actually wants to adapt my work, to me, shows a level of seriousness towards my work that I think needs to be taken into account,' Tarantino explained. Should there ever be an occasion that the mind behind both movies is needed on set, Tarantino assured that he would make himself available. "I'm moving back and forth between here and Israel, so I won't be on the set every day and everything. But, yeah, I'll be around if they need me to do something, you know, I will." Filming is currently underway, with Brad Pitt already spotted in Booth's legendary worn-down shirt, but there's still no release date confirmed from the big red N just yet as to when we'll see him in action again.
