With the release of Astro Bot last year, the world got a reminder of just how many beloved first-party franchises PlayStation was responsible for in its glory days – and how few of them are still alive today. While Sony itself seems interested in pursuing little beyond a handful of mega-franchises from its biggest studios, it's apparently increasingly willing to license out those series to other publishers: notably Bandai Namco, which announced new Patapon and Everybody's Gold games during the Nintendo Direct for March 2025.
First we saw Patapon 1+2 Replay, a remastered collection of Sony's two beloved PSP rhythm strategy games. Patapon helped form the peak of Japan Studio's reputation for delightfully offbeat games, and it was among the more popular parts of that lineage, spawning not just one, but two sequels. There's little else like it to this day – aside, of course, from designer Hiroyuki Kotani's spiritual successor, Ratatan, which is due to launch in 2025.
Patapon 1+2 Replay is set to launch across PS5, Switch, and PC on July 11 courtesy of Bandai Namco, and that's not the only Sony game the publisher's handling. Bandai Namco also announced Everybody's Golf: Hot Shots today, which also due out on PS5, Switch, and PC sometime this year.
Everybody's Golf was once known as Hot Shots Golf in North America, but whatever title you recognize it by, it's a cute, accessible golf game with roots going all the way back to the PS1. This one is perhaps an even weirder comeback than Patapon – here we have a brand-new entry in a Sony-published series that got a new entry as 2019 with Everybody's Golf VR.
Bandai Namco kicked off this whole thing with the release of Freedom Wars Remastered earlier this year. That Monster Hunter-style action-RPG was once a PS Vita exclusive and yes, a first-party PlayStation game. There hasn't been any formal announcement of a partnership between Sony and Bandai Namco, but clearly the two companies have worked out some mutually beneficial IP agreements.
As much as I'm confused by all this, I'm mostly just happy that other publishers are willing to give us the smaller IP revivals that Sony's unwilling to. There's already some Bloodborne copium in the ether as the result of all this, but what I want are Sony's greatest obscurities. After these years, please: sickos like me are demanding a new Tokyo Jungle. You owe it to the world, Bandai Namco. Let that little Pomeranian stalk the streets once more.
Preparing for the Switch 2, Nintendo announces "Virtual Game Cards" you can move between consoles and loan to friends for up to 2 weeks.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Nintendo Switch 2 journey isn't going too smoothly as Nintendo asks "please avoid using Mii Fighter in online play as much as possible"

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Nintendo Switch 2 has a ton of free updates available for existing Switch games, with a bunch of first-party Nintendo games getting the rub (especially Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, which desperately needed it). While Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is among the games that run better, it comes with an unexpected downgrade. Twitter user OatmealDome noticed on the US Eshop page for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate that the game is listed as "Supported – Game progression may be affected in portions of the game" for Switch 2. When you look for more info, it turns out there's not a progression issue; it's actually just that Mii Fighters are not working as they should. On the store it says, "In online play, when a Switch 2 player and Switch player have been matched, if someone is using Mii Fighter, the match may end immediately," and because of this Nintendo asks that players "please avoid using Mii Fighter in online play as much as possible." So while Mii Fighters do still work online on Switch 2, it's only if you face someone else playing on the new system. Not only are Mii Fighters having trouble in online crossplay, but Nintendo also notes, "When creating or editing and saving a Mii Fighter, the thumbnail image showing the Mii Fighter may not appear correctly." With the solution being a simple "This may be improved by saving it again." Nintendo hasn't explained why this happened, although it could be a compatibility issue stemming from the fact that Mii characters are now genderless on Switch 2, I don't know why that would matter when the gender doesn't matter in Smash, but that could have caused the issue. Regardless, Nintendo says that "This is planned to be fixed in the near future," so you can have your Hank Hill vs Sans Undertale brawls online once more. Street Fighter 6 sees Capcom follow the road Nintendo abandoned in Animal Crossing by adding a collection of stone-cold NES bangers.

Broncos make brief appearance in 'Madden NFL 26' trailer

EA Sports has released the first trailer for "Madden NFL 26," and there's no love for Bo Nix or any members of the Denver Broncos' offense. The only time the Broncos are shown in the trailer comes at the 0:35 mark when Las Vegas Raiders rookie running back Ashton Jeanty is tackled by a Denver defender. It appears to be safety P.J. Locke, who wears No. 6, making the tackle. Early in the trailer, Dalton Risner is shown in the tunnel with teammates before a Minnesota Vikings game. Risner is actually still a free agent, and this isn't an announcement of a signing from EA Sports, but an oversight. The 29-year-old guard played for the Broncos from 2019-2022 and spent the last two years in Minnesota before hitting free agency this spring. Later in the trailer, former Denver quarterback Russell Wilson is shown being sacked by Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons. Wilson, who took 100 sacks in 30 games with the Broncos from 2022-2023, now plays for the New York Giants. Check out the full trailer below. The popular video game will be released on Aug. 14, available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC devices. Related: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans.
