Mamata Banerjee's 'Jai Hind' Post After Operation Sindoor Sparks Reactions
A reaction hailing India posted by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on X, presumably on 'Operation Sindoor' that the country launched against Pakistan, attracted snide comments from people on Wednesday morning.
Chief Minister Banerjee, who is generally known for ending any statement, verbal or written, with the slogan "Jai Bangla" on Wednesday made a post on her official X handle which read "Jai Hind! Jai India!"

Soon after the comment was posted there were snide reactions from individuals.
One person questioned whether the Chief Minister's X account had been hacked and the post "Jai Hind! Jai India!" was made by the hacker.
"Very unlikely post. Account hacked????" read the reply to the post by the Chief Minister.
Another respondent reminded the Chief Minister of her demand in March 2019 seeking evidence from the Union government about the Indian Air Force's strike at Balakot in Pakistan.
While raising the demand at that point in time, Mamata Banerjee stated that the people of India had the right to know the details of the destruction caused in the operations.
"When India strikes back, Mamata Banerjee, you tweeted 'Jai Hind! Jai India'. But in 2019, you praised the IAF one day and demanded proof the next - casting doubt on their valour. Patriotism isn't seasonal, Didi. Stop the chameleon politics," said another respondent to the post by the Chief Minister.
A third respondent to the post requested the Chief Minister to ensure that the Information Technology cell of Trinamool Congress spreads the message of nationalism for the next few days.
Another respondent reminded the Chief Minister of past instances where she criticised the Indian Army.
"Remember how you criticised the Indian Army! Why can't you write a post appreciating the Armed Forces and the Modi govt? Very difficult na? Quam must be hurting so much," his reply read.

The Ministry of Defence has cleared the purchase of weapons and defence systems worth Rs 67,000 crore for the Army, Navy and Air Force. The decision came on August 5, during a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Senior military leadership attended the meeting. The Chief of Defence Staff, the service chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force, along with the Defence Secretary, were all present. Their agenda was to strengthen combat readiness across land, air and sea. BrahMos for Navy, Combat Drones for All Forces After the successful showcase of the BrahMos missile in Operation Sindoor, the Defence Ministry approved the procurement of additional BrahMos Fire Control Systems and launchers for the Indian Navy. Alongside this, the green signal was given to acquire combat-capable drones for all three services. These unmanned aerial systems fall under the Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) category. The ministry's official statement did not disclose specific models but confirmed that these drones would carry payloads and weapons. Their long-range capabilities are expected to boost India's surveillance and strike power significantly. Backup Plan Amid U.S. Drone Supply Delays India had signed a deal to buy 36 MQ-9B Predator drones from the United States. However, delivery has been delayed. To bridge this gap, the Defence Ministry has approved the purchase of alternate remote-piloted aircraft (RPAs). Meanwhile, Pakistan has already inducted similar drones, such as the Turkish Bayraktar UAVs. Boost to Naval and Aerial Defences The Navy will also receive Compact Autonomous Surface Craft, sea-based drones designed for detecting and neutralising enemy submarines. An upgrade to the Barak-1 Point Defence Missile System has also been cleared. For the Air Force, the ministry has sanctioned mounted radar systems. There is also an upgrade in the pipeline for two major defence platforms, Saksham and SPYDER weapon systems. These upgrades will integrate them into the Integrated Air Command and Control System (IACCS), enhancing battlefield coordination. Maintenance and Night Combat Gear The Air Force's C-17 and C-130 transport fleets will undergo essential sustainment and maintenance. Annual upkeep of the S-400 missile systems has also been cleared. On the ground, the Army's mechanised infantry will get a technological boost. Thermal imaging sights for BMP vehicles will soon be part of their night combat toolkit. This fresh round of acquisitions marks a strategic push toward high-tech warfare. The armed forces are preparing for today's threats and tomorrow's challenges.

Shinde meets Modi, Shah, refutes suggestions of Mahayuti trouble
MUMBAI: Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde, who visited Delhi on Wednesday to meet prime minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah, rejected rumours that he was there to sort out his issues with his Mahayuti allies. 'People don't vote for names but for accomplishments. They don't vote for people who sit at home. Parties have a right to get into alliances but the people decide whom to vote for.' There were some questions on Thackeray attending the opposition alliance INDIA meet on August 7 but Shinde refused to answer them. The Shiv Sena chief announced that his party had extended its unconditional support to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for the upcoming vice-presidential election. He affirmed that his party remained one of the oldest and most trusted allies of the NDA.

NDA VP pick to get 'unconditional' support from Shiv Sena
NEW DELHI: Maharashtra deputy CM Eknath Shinde on Wednesday announced Shiv Sena's "unconditional support" to NDA's candidate for vice-president, potentially setting the line for other alliance partners to follow and increase the chances of BJP getting one of its own appointed to the constitutional position after the Sept 9 election. On a visit to Delhi, Shinde made the announcement after meeting home minister Amit Shah at his Parliament office. The election for the VP post has been necessitated following the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar last month. Shinde also met PM Narendra Modi and congratulated him on the success of Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev. The twin interactions were seen as significant. Sources said that the meeting attested to his equations with the BJP brass, with which it engineered the downfall of the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA govt in 2022. Shinde said the 'Mahayuti' - alliance of BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP - would fight local body elections in Maharashtra together. He was accompanied by his wife Lata, son Shrikant and daughter-in-law Vru-shali as the family gifted a photograph of Lord Shiva to the PM. Shinde said Modi praised his son, who got the opportunity to lead a multi-party delegation to convey India's message of zero tolerance to terrorism. Shinde also rejected suggestions that his frequent visits to Delhi were linked to 'differences' with Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, saying they were working together for development. Shinde also said he and his party MPs congratulated Shah on becoming India's longest-serving home minister.
