Will skin you alive, Rohingya: BJP leader snaps at man over 'Joy Bangla' slogan

Leader of the Opposition in the Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, lost his cool when a Trinamool supporter raised "Jai Bangla" slogans during his "Kannya Surokha Jyatra" (Daughter Safety March) in Hooghly district, and threatened to "skin him alive."As Adhikari was heading to join the march at Radhanagar, Trinamool supporter Sheikh Moidul shouted "Jai Bangla" slogans, prompting Adhikari to storm out of his car and respond with "Jai Shri Ram" chants. Moidul claimed he did this because he was angered by Adhikari's speeches on situation escalated when Adhikari allegedly called Moidul a "Rohingya," and his bodyguards reportedly pushed Moidul, causing a minor hand injury. Local Trinamool leader Swapan Nandi condemned Adhikari's behaviour, stating that Trinamool activists were protesting in the area against the alleged the 1.2-minute-long clip on its Twitter handle, TMC wrote, "Just two words are enough to rattle @BJP4India to its core: Joy Bangla!"In the video, Suvendu Adhikari can be seen storming out of his car and confronting Moidul, saying, "Jai Shri Ram. I am a Hindu's son," to which Moidul replied, "Joy Bangla." Suvendu was then seen asking his guards to remove Moidul from his sight as he continued chanting, "Joy Bangla." "I have defeated your Mamata," Suvendu was heard saying—referring to his 2021 Assembly win over the Bengal Chief Minister from Nandigram. The "Joy Bangla" slogan is seen as a counter to the BJP's "Jai Shri Ram." In 2019, Mamata Banerjee also stopped her cavalcade when she was greeted with "Jai Shri Ram" slogans during a visit to North 24 Parganas. Even in that incident, she got down from her car and confronted the sloganeers.- Ends

Will compel BJP to chant our ‘Jai Bangla' slogan after 2026 Assembly polls: Abhishek Banerjee

Kolkata: The BJP will be compelled to chant the 'Jai Bangla' slogan after the West Bengal Assembly election scheduled next year, Trinamool Congress' general secretary and the party's Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee said on Monday. 'Already, the BJP has started realising the importance of admiring the Bengali culture. So they have started chanting 'Jai Ma Durga' and 'Jai Ma Kali'. Take my word, we will make them chant our slogan of 'Jai Bangla' after the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. They will lose whatever little presence they have in the West Bengal Assembly next year,' Abhishek Banerjee said, while addressing Trinamool Congress' annual Martyrs' Day rally in central Kolkata. However, there are controversies over whether the slogan of 'Jai Bangla' was an original coinage of the Trinamool Congress. Critics claim that this particular slogan had been traditionally chanted by the leaders and supporters of Bangladesh's former ruling party, Awami League, since the slogan was first chanted by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the architect behind the emergence of Bangladesh as an independent nation after erstwhile East Pakistan was liberated from Pakistan. Speaking at the rally, Abhishek Banerjee said that the BJP is attempting nationwide to send Bengali-speaking people to detention camps. 'They want to send the entire population of West Bengal to detention camps. But after the 2026 Assembly elections, the people of West Bengal will send the BJP to those detention camps,' he said. According to him, two 'E' are the tools of the BJP and the Union Government. 'One 'E' is the Enforcement Directorate (ED), through which they are harassing the opposition party leaders. The second 'E' is the Election Commission of India (ECI), through which they are trying to manipulate voters' lists in different states. But we are not scared. I am also asking the people of West Bengal not to be scared,' the Trinamool Congress general secretary said. He concluded his speech by saying that after the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, Trinamool Congress' next target would be to oust the BJP from New Delhi in the next Lok Sabha elections. 'Raise the slogan of 'Jai Bangla' in such a manner that its impact shakes New Delhi,' he said.

Mamata Banerjee's 'Jai Hind' Post After Operation Sindoor Sparks Reactions

Kolkata: A reaction hailing India posted by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on X, presumably on 'Operation Sindoor' that the country launched against Pakistan, attracted snide comments from people on Wednesday morning. Chief Minister Banerjee, who is generally known for ending any statement, verbal or written, with the slogan "Jai Bangla" on Wednesday made a post on her official X handle which read "Jai Hind! Jai India!" Jai Hind! Jai India! — Mamata Banerjee (@MamataOfficial) May 7, 2025 Soon after the comment was posted there were snide reactions from individuals. One person questioned whether the Chief Minister's X account had been hacked and the post "Jai Hind! Jai India!" was made by the hacker. "Very unlikely post. Account hacked????" read the reply to the post by the Chief Minister. Another respondent reminded the Chief Minister of her demand in March 2019 seeking evidence from the Union government about the Indian Air Force's strike at Balakot in Pakistan. While raising the demand at that point in time, Mamata Banerjee stated that the people of India had the right to know the details of the destruction caused in the operations. "When India strikes back, Mamata Banerjee, you tweeted 'Jai Hind! Jai India'. But in 2019, you praised the IAF one day and demanded proof the next - casting doubt on their valour. Patriotism isn't seasonal, Didi. Stop the chameleon politics," said another respondent to the post by the Chief Minister. A third respondent to the post requested the Chief Minister to ensure that the Information Technology cell of Trinamool Congress spreads the message of nationalism for the next few days. Another respondent reminded the Chief Minister of past instances where she criticised the Indian Army. "Remember how you criticised the Indian Army! Why can't you write a post appreciating the Armed Forces and the Modi govt? Very difficult na? Quam must be hurting so much," his reply read.

"Mamata Banerjee never thinks before naming something": BJP's Dilip Ghosh criticises CM over 'Jagannath Dham' naming

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India] May 3 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Dilip Ghosh on Saturday criticised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for naming the newly built temple in Digha as 'Jagannath Dham', accusing her of stirring unnecessary controversies. While speaking to the media, Ghosh said, 'Mamata Banerjee never thinks before naming gives any people from Odisha have written to Mamata Banerjee. She used the slogan 'Jai Bangla'. People of Bangladesh objected to does wrong things only...' Earlier on Friday, BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar criticised senior party leader Dilip Ghosh for meeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying the move had caused disappointment among the public, given the prevailing political situation in the state. 'Dilip Ghosh is a great leader of our party. But what he did has hurt people,' Sarkar said while addressing reporters. The reaction comes after West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee met BJP leader Dilip Ghosh and his wife at the newly inaugurated Jagannath Temple in Digha town of Purba Medinipur district in West Bengal. Referring to recent incidents in Murshidabad, Sarkar alleged misuse of state machinery under the ruling Trinamool Congress. 'In Mamata Banerjee's rule, the police remained submissive, people were falsely accused on Mamata's orders, families were tortured, houses were looted, and shops were burnt (in Murshidabad),' he said. He questioned the timing and nature of Ghosh's meeting with the Chief Minister. 'Holding a meeting with her at such a time was not right. If he wanted, he could have just visited the temple (Jagannath temple in Digha), or he could have expressed a demand about the atrocities committed against Hindus. But the people are very upset with what he did,' Sarkar said. Following the backlash after BJP leader Dilip Ghosh visited Jagannath Temple and met with West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh has backed the BJP member, saying that his (Dilip Ghosh's) 'rivalry is not with Lord Jagannath.' The TMC leader said, 'We have a political rivalry with Dilip Ghosh. But his rivalry is not with Lord Jagannath. Mamata Banerjee had invited many opposition leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari, Sukanta Majumdar, Dilip Ghosh, and Pradip Bhattacharya, to visit the newly built Jagannath temple at Digha here... ' West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated Jagannath Temple on Wednesday in Digha town of Purba Medinipur district in West Bengal. The Rs 250 crore temple has been built over 20 acres of land and is similar to the 12th-century temple at Puri of the same deities. Dilip Ghosh and his wife met Banerjee at the temple premises.
