Earlier on Friday, BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar criticised senior party leader Dilip Ghosh for meeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, saying the move had caused disappointment among the public, given the prevailing political situation in the state.
'Dilip Ghosh is a great leader of our party. But what he did has hurt people,' Sarkar said while addressing reporters.
The reaction comes after West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee met BJP leader Dilip Ghosh and his wife at the newly inaugurated Jagannath Temple in Digha town of Purba Medinipur district in West Bengal.
Referring to recent incidents in Murshidabad, Sarkar alleged misuse of state machinery under the ruling Trinamool Congress. 'In Mamata Banerjee's rule, the police remained submissive, people were falsely accused on Mamata's orders, families were tortured, houses were looted, and shops were burnt (in Murshidabad),' he said.
He questioned the timing and nature of Ghosh's meeting with the Chief Minister.
'Holding a meeting with her at such a time was not right. If he wanted, he could have just visited the temple (Jagannath temple in Digha), or he could have expressed a demand about the atrocities committed against Hindus. But the people are very upset with what he did,' Sarkar said.
Following the backlash after BJP leader Dilip Ghosh visited Jagannath Temple and met with West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh has backed the BJP member, saying that his (Dilip Ghosh's) 'rivalry is not with Lord Jagannath.'
The TMC leader said, 'We have a political rivalry with Dilip Ghosh. But his rivalry is not with Lord Jagannath. Mamata Banerjee had invited many opposition leaders, including Suvendu Adhikari, Sukanta Majumdar, Dilip Ghosh, and Pradip Bhattacharya, to visit the newly built Jagannath temple at Digha here... '
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated Jagannath Temple on Wednesday in Digha town of Purba Medinipur district in West Bengal. The Rs 250 crore temple has been built over 20 acres of land and is similar to the 12th-century temple at Puri of the same deities. Dilip Ghosh and his wife met Banerjee at the temple premises. (ANI)

Meanwhile, in its written reply, the ministry confirmed that Chandigarh Railway Station is being redeveloped under the ABS scheme with a sanctioned cost of Rs 436.29 crore. While structural works on the Panchkula and Chandigarh sides have been completed — including platform upgradation, foot overbridges, parking areas, and new building finishes — the ministry admitted that no definite completion date can be given due to numerous on-ground challenges. These include statutory clearances (fire, heritage, airport), shifting of utilities (water, sewage, power, optical fibre), ongoing train operations, and speed restrictions due to nearby high-voltage lines. All these factors, the ministry claimed, are affecting progress, and thus no timeline can be committed at this stage. The station's inclusion in the national ABS scheme is part of a broader plan to modernise 1,337 stations across the country, out of which work at 105 has already been completed. However, work at Chandigarh railway station is still not complete. The ministry stated that routine inspections are being conducted and cleanliness is being maintained, but passengers and local residents continue to face overcrowding and inadequate amenities. Chandigarh falls under Northern Railway, which has been allocated Rs 2,216 crore under Plan Head-53 for customer amenities for the financial year 2025–26, mentioned the ministry in its response to Tewari's question.

'People are waiting for relief that hasn't reached them, and instead the minister is giving sermons. Rather than holding those responsible accountable, he is offering mythology in place of action,' Shukla said. Nishad later told a news agency that the remark was made in a lighter vein. 'I was on a visit to a flood-hit area of Nishads where while interacting with them I said that for seeking salvation, people from far away places come to take the holy dip in Ganga and here Ganga 'maiya' was right at their doorstep,' the minister said. 'We Nishads worship rivers, our source of life and livelihoods. So the remark has its own context,' the minister said.
