2025 NFL schedule release video favs, critiqued by 'most creative person in advertising'
On this stage, a positive comment from a fan is like a solid four-yard run. A quote-tweet from a popular blue checkmark account calling your work "amazing?" That's a broken tackle for a touchdown. You can dance in the end zone if you want.
We are, of course, talking about NFL Schedule Release Day! A newly minted unofficial NFL holiday in which all 32 teams come up with their best ideas to share their upcoming schedules. The rules are simple: at 8 p.m. ET, hit publish. The internet keeps score.
We're going to keep our NFL Hall of Famer, Tom Brady, in the booth to analyze the actual games on the field. To analyze this virtual competition of creatives? We need a Hall of Famer from Madison Avenue.
Meet Gerry Graf, the Chief Creative Officer for SlapGobal, named "Most creative person in advertising" by Business Insider. Gerry has critiqued Super Bowl ads for the Wall Street Journal & Advertising Age. He's basically the Tom Brady of analyzing sports creative.

We asked him to weigh in on NFL Schedule Release Day, to pick his favorites and tell us why. And he obliged! So, without further ado, enjoy "the most creative person in advertising's" take on NFL Schedule Release Day. Cleveland Browns
The Browns were one of the worst teams in the league this past season and are projected to have one of the worst records in 2025, but they at least know how to make a good schedule release video. In their video, the Browns used their mascot, Brownie the Elf, and some visual effects to predict them taking down their opponents. During one moment of the clip, Brownie the Elf places an egg with the Baltimore Ravens logo in a pan and cooks it with cheese off to the side to represent the Green Bay Packers. There was also a moment where Brownie the Elf turned a plate of Skyline Chili into buffalo wings to show that they have back-to-back games against the Cincinnati Bengals and Buffalo Bills.
If you look around the rest of the internet, some might not have been fans of the Browns' video due to its unusual nature. But we and Graf like the video, partly due to the trippy nature of it.
"This one is really something to behold," Graf said. "Brownie the Elf gets the starring role. He never made much sense to me as a mascot, and this vid is a mindbender too, which is the reason it's one of my favorites. I didn't realize northern Ohio had such a WTF attitude." Atlanta Falcons
Every year, it seems like at least a few teams recreate a popular video game to help unveil their schedule. The Falcons were among that group, creating "ATL Kart," an obvious nod to "Mario Kart." In the video, the driver goes through the difficult courses from the game, with Easter eggs to the side unveiling Falcons' opponents in 2025. For instance, they poked fun at Bill Belichick's recent interview with CBS and DeflateGate to show that they have the New England Patriots on their schedule. At the end, the Falcons win the race at Rainbow Road, beating their NFC South opponents. If you're curious, they have the New Orleans Saints off the podium, with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers finishing second and the Carolina Panthers coming in third.
For Falcons fans, the video was likely as fun as it would be to drive on a course of whatever is the inverse of Rainbow Road. Admittedly, Graf said that he doesn't know too much about Atlanta, so he didn't grasp some of the local references. But he seemed to like the appearance made by Michigan alum Rich Eisen in the video.
"I watched it about five times trying to catch the tons of insider references that zoomed over my head," Graf said. "Also, 'Go Blue.'" Jacksonville Jaguars
If you've been an active social media user over the last month or so, you've probably seen the video of social media personality and fitness influencer Ashton Hall doing his morning routine. The Jaguars tapped Hall to make a similar video for their schedule announcement, going through his typical morning routine of putting his face in a bowl of ice and water before recovering from a workout in a pool. Hall eventually took to the podium to be introduced as a member of the Jaguars during a press conference before the team's schedule was placed over the video.
Graf is among the many of us who are also confused by Hall's morning routine videos, but still get a kick out of them.
"This vid poses some important questions," Graf said. "Is the schedule release video what Ashton Hall has been prepping for all these mornings? Or is Ashton a new free agent? I don't know. I also don't know why you'd wear socks in the pool and not with your shoes." New York Jets
The Jets claimed they were initially going to make a Minecraft-inspired video to announce their schedule. Instead, they announced theirs through an infinite zoom drawing. They also took some digs at their opponents, of course. The video began with a man sitting on a ketchup bottle in the middle of New York City to signal that the Jets are taking on the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1 before the final zoom showed buffalo wings falling into Niagara Falls to share that they're playing the Bills in Buffalo to close the regular season.
Each zoom had a personal touch to each opponent that the Jets have on their schedule this season, which Graf was a fan of.
"Probably one of the more thoughtful/artful vids of the day," Graf said. "Details like a Bengal tiger protecting Skyline Chili kept me waiting to see what came next. I hope the Jets post an interactive version so I can pinch and enlarge all day. And I don't know what the ducks meant in the Sopranos either." Los Angeles Chargers
The Chargers' media team did it again. They found a new, unique way to unveil their team's schedule for the 2025 season, opting to make their video in Minecraft. What really puts the Chargers' schedule release announcements over the top, though, are the Easter eggs they place in their videos. This year's had no shortage of them. To announce their matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, they put in a banner that read "Best record among wild card teams" and another banner for the Minnesota Wild that read "8-time quarterfinal runner-up 2015-25." For their matchup against the Indianapolis Colts, the Chargers took a dig at Anthony Richardson Sr., noting that he was running on empty, a nod to the controversy surrounding the quarterback last season. They also included new Jaguars head coach Liam Coen's awkward introductory press conference, too.
It's hard not to be a fan of the Chargers' social media department's work, even if they might take a dig or two at your favorite team. Even Graf couldn't help but applaud the Chargers' work, even if he thinks recreating a video game to announce the schedule has become a bit tacky.
"Video game-inspired schedule vids have become kind of a trope, but no one does them like the Chargers," Graf said. "Incredible production value, I loved every world they jumped into. So the answer to the Chargers is: Yes! You should REALLY make your schedule release video in Minecraft."

Is Jerry Jones the biggest problem for the Cowboys?
Yahoo Sports' Jason Fitz and Caroline Fenton discuss how the Dallas team owner continues to favor making headlines over winning on the field. View more Video Transcript But to your point about the Cowboys, I think to me it is abundantly clear, and I believe if my pulse on the Cowboys fan base is correct, I believe it is now becoming more and more clear to Dallas Cowboys fans. That as long as Jerry Jones is running this franchise and doing the drafting and making free agency decisions, this team will not win a Super Bowl, because Jerry Jones cares way too much about being in the headlines, about being the number one story than he does about actually winning. Because if Jerry Jones actually cared about winning, I don't believe Brian Schottenheimer would be the head coach of this organization. I believe Brian Schottenheimer is the head coach of this organization because Jerry Jones can't handle anybody else getting more publicity and more love and more credit for the Cowboys than he is. What do you do when you realize the owner of your favorite team just isn't a very good owner, you know, and there's nothing you can do. We could talk all day long about Jayden Daniels and what it meant for the resurgence of the Washington Commanders, but you have to acknowledge that that became a heck of a lot easier to accomplish when they cleaned house of everybody in the building. And simply being bad at your job isn't a reason that you're going to be. Forced to sell a team. So if you're a Panthers fan, guess what? You're gonna have Tepper forever until, you know, he decides he wants to go off and mess something else up. If you're a Cowboys fan, you're, you're sort of stuck with whatever this version of Jerry Jones is. I'm a, I'm a diehard Raiders fan. Everybody knows that. I'm stuck with whatever Mark Davis decides year in and year out. Like there is really nothing you can do. For all of the conversation about drafting and quarterbacks and GMs and head coaches, at the end of the day, culture is created from the top down. If the person that leads your Organization is just not good at identifying talent all the way down and then not good at staying out of the way, you suddenly end up being a fan of a team that stinks every single year. Jerry Jones at one point was incredible at his job and I'm not sure that there's been anybody more important to the modern NFL when it comes to modernization and branding. But if you want that, That's great, but if you want Jerry Jones right now to run your favorite football team, I think you're just looking at an abject disaster year in and year out. Close

When does Kirk Cousins become an option for Rams?
Matthew Stafford's back injury has not gone away yet and may linger for the entire season, if not ending in surgery, but when you scan NFL depth charts for quarterback help at the conclusion of training camp, no names will stand out as better options than Jimmy Garoppolo. No names except for one and Kirk Cousins will either be one of the weirdest backups in the league at the start of the season or as the shocking trade right before Week 1. The Atlanta Falcons have been hanging onto Cousins and his $27 million salary for the entire season because it's guaranteed money, but also because they're waiting for a dire situation that forces someone to overpay in a trade. Wouldn't you know it, the Rams have a potential situation developing at quarterback and the Falcons have two former Sean McVay coaches — Raheem Morris and Zac Robinson — teaching Cousins a playbook that would strongly resemble the one he'd have in L.A.. Cousins has also spoke at length about how important McVay was to his development and success when the two were paired together in Washington at the start of both of their careers. Even if you think it would be a huge mistake for the Rams to trade for Kirk Cousins, you have to admit that the longer this Stafford situation goes on, the more often we will hear rumors linking L.A. to the only backup in the league who has a winning record with more than 150 career starts. What will Kirk Cousins cost? It's hard to imagine that the Falcons will want anything more than financial relief if a team is willing to trade for Cousins. The team owes him a guaranteed $27.5 million salary, money that comes off of their salary cap if the Rams take the bait. This also implies that the Rams wouldn't have to sacrifice any good draft picks — maybe a day three pick swap in 2026 — and would expect Atlanta to give them salary relief on Cousins or take back a bad contract in return. Rumors before the draft stated that the Falcons wanted $20 million in salary relief but that teams were only offering to take on $10 million. In other words, the Rams might expect the Falcons to pay $17.5 million of Cousins' 2025 salary, leaving $10 million. The only really bad contract that L.A. could trade is Colby Parkinson's, which is $5.25 million. Maybe the Rams would trade Parkinson to the Falcons for Cousins and pay $15 million of his 2025 salary. The Rams are estimated to have $19.5 million in 2025 cap space right now. Is Kirk Cousins good? Although Cousins struggled in his last 5 starts prior to being benched for Michael Penix (1 TD/9 INT), he was pretty decent before that and was also dealing with multiple injuries: The Achilles tear that he was recovering from and then an elbow injury suffered during the season that immediately preceded his downfall. There is also the probability that Cousins is not a great fit for Robinson's offense, which does imply that he could have some setbacks playing for McVay. However, McVay is better than Zac Robinson and would have a better idea of how to utilize Cousins to the best of his abilities. Maybe the better question is, 'Is Cousins better than Jimmy Garoppolo?' and I think the answer to that is definitely yes, and it's not even close. But some would disagree with me and that's fine too. It's not like comparing Aaron Rodgers to Blake Bortles, but Cousins has had a far more productive and successful career than Garoppolo and if McVay could choose between the two right now without having to make a trade or pay either of them, I think no question the winner is Cousins. In six seasons with the Vikings, Cousins had a passer rating of 101.2 and he had his best seasons playing for former Rams OC Kevin O'Connell. Do the Rams need Cousins? Well, not yet. Matthew Stafford could be fine as soon as Tuesday! It's not clear if this is an emergency situation yet or not and the Rams don't want to trade for Cousins if this is merely an issue that lingers for Stafford for the year and it makes him sore. They would only consider this if Stafford is headed to IR and that's when we know that Cousins will be an option, if he hasn't been traded by then. There are other teams that might kick the tires on Cousins too, including the Colts, the Browns, and his former team in Minnesota. For now, Cousins remains a backup to Penix, but in a month he might get his job right back with Atlanta. Anything could happen in the next 1-2 months with Kirk Cousins. It's not a name that any Rams fan wants to talk about. If this Stafford issue gets worse though, Cousins rumors will be unavoidable.

Ex-Falcons running back signing with NFC South rivals
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to sign former Atlanta Falcons running back Jase McCellan, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter. McClellan, a standout at Alabama, was selected in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL draft by the Falcons. As a rookie, McClellan appeared in two games, rushing for 32 yards on 13 attempts. While he didn't get much playing time behind Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier, McClellan showed some promise in the 2024 preseason. He led the Falcons with 55 rushing yards on 11 carries against the Baltimore Ravens. Atlanta released McClellan in June and signed former UFL star Jashaun Corbin as a replacement. In Friday's preseason opener, the Falcons running game was unable to find any room. Corbin made his team debut and rushed for just one yard on one carry. McClellan, 23, is a decent dual-threat option, showing some ability to catch the ball out of the backfield at Alabama. The Buccaneers have decent running back depth, so it'll be interesting to see if he makes the 53-man roster. Tampa Bay has been the class of the NFC South in recent years. If McClellan ends up doing well with the Buccaneers, he'll get to face his former team twice a year, starting in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season. The Falcons signed veteran center Jake Hanson and safety Ronnie Harrison to their 90-man roster on Monday afternoon. Check out our latest 53-man roster projection for Atlanta as we head into preseason Week 2. This article originally appeared on Falcons Wire: Atlanta Falcons: Jase McClellan signing with Buccaneers
