Jordan deports over 2,000 unauthorized workers

Al Bawaba12-03-2025
Amman, March 12 (Petra) -- Authorities have deported more than 2,000 unauthorized foreign workers from the Kingdom as part of a sweeping labor compliance operation during the first two months of 2025, the Ministry of Labor announced Wednesday. The deportations represent the majority of 2,419 non-Jordanian nationals documented working outside regulatory frameworks during the joint enforcement initiative conducted with the Ministry of Interior and Public Security Directorate.Ministry spokesperson Mohammad Ziyoud confirmed that 104 domestic workers were among those repatriated, while remaining cases continue through administrative channels, with some employers opting to normalize worker status through payment of regulatory penalties."This compliance initiative builds upon strategic labor market reforms introduced during Q4 2024," Ziyoud explained. "These enhancements created cross-sectoral mobility opportunities for non-Jordanian workers, enabling employers to leverage existing workforce capacity within the kingdom."The ministry had previously established a grace period in late 2024 encouraging employers to proactively normalize non-compliant workforce documentation to avoid statutory penalties, which mandate minimum fines of JD800 ($1,128) per undocumented worker.Ziyoud noted that the enforcement actions aim to ensure all foreign workers are employed exclusively in authorized professions. The investigation revealed instances where domestic workers reported as runaways were subsequently employed by new employers, alongside cases where residential employers utilized workers in non-authorized capacities.Employers still have the opportunity to regularize worker status by paying all required work permit fees and accumulated fines before identification through the ongoing compliance initiative, Ziyoud confirmed.//Petra// AA

Jordan Approves 'Data Subject Rights' Regulation for 2025 to Protect Personal Data - Jordan News

Jordan Approves 'Data Subject Rights' Regulation for 2025 to Protect Personal Data The Jordanian Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Jafar Hassan, approved the 2025 Regulation on Organizing Data Subject Rights aimed at protecting individuals' personal data and enhancing trust in digital commerce and e-services. اضافة اعلان The regulation complements the Personal Data Protection Law, which came into effect in March 2025, by establishing detailed procedures for individuals to exercise their rights regarding their personal information. Key provisions include: Prior consent: Individuals must give explicit approval for each purpose of data processing, as well as for withdrawal and use of their data. Transparency and complaints: Clear mechanisms are set for data processing, receiving complaints, and responding to them. Rights clarification: The regulation defines the legal rights and obligations of individuals whose data is collected, and the responsibilities of companies and institutions processing such data. Objection and reporting procedures: Companies must follow specified procedures for individuals to object to data processing and to register complaints. These measures are intended to boost trust in the digital economy, encourage e-commerce, and ensure personal data is processed only within the legal framework. -(Petra)

Housing Bank, BDC, and the Higher Council Partner to Empower 25 Aspiring Entrepreneurs with Disabilities - Jordan News

Housing Bank, BDC, and the Higher Council Partner to Empower 25 Aspiring Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Housing Bank has supported the Business Development Center (BDC) in implementing a specialized entrepreneurship training designed to empower 25 young men and women with disabilities and promote self-employment opportunities. اضافة اعلان Organized in coordination with the Higher Council for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the training stems from Housing Bank commitments, which were made at the World Disability Summit 2025 held in Berlin this past April. The initiative seeks to enable persons with disabilities to become active contributors to society and the economy, particularly in developing countries. This support falls under Imkan by Iskan, the bank's corporate social responsibility program, making Housing Bank one of the first institutions to translate national directives and summit commitments into tangible action. This training reflects Housing Bank's ongoing commitment to the Central Bank of Jordan's directives on enhancing financial inclusion and ensuring services meet the diverse needs of persons with disabilities beyond basic banking, fostering social and economic empowerment. Through Imkan by Iskan, the bank is dedicated to breaking down barriers, creating opportunities, and improving quality of life for all, with a focus on equity and participation in everyday activities and the local economy. Over a 10-day period, participants received both practical and theoretical training covering key entrepreneurial topics such as business planning, access to financing mechanisms, and feasibility studies. The initiative helped equip them with essential skills and tools to pursue entrepreneurship and integrate more effectively into the labor market. It is worth noting that the Business Development Center is a leading Jordanian non-profit. It designs and implements development programs aimed at creating job opportunities, fostering entrepreneurship, promoting self-employment, and enhancing the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises across the Kingdom.
