Make space great again, Trump signs executive order

Agency: PTI Last Updated: Washington, Aug 14 (AP) US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order meant to reduce and streamline regulations in an effort to make the US commercial space industry more competitive. It calls for the creation of an 'Office of Space Commerce' within the Secretary of Transportation. The order also seeks to 'enhance American greatness in space by enabling a competitive launch marketplace" that can 'substantially increase" commercial space activities in the next five years. It directs authorities to ease requirements for commercial license and permit appeals for US-based space operators and to reduce or eliminate many environmental reviews. The planned metro line will run for about 35-40 kilometres, starting from Bhakti-Shakti Chowk in Nigdi and stretching all the way to Chakan. Once completed, it will connect nearly 75 percent of Pimpri-Chinchwad through a quick, comfortable, and eco-friendly public transport network. This move is also expected to give a solid push to industries and the local economy by improving smooth connectivity along the industrial belt. As per Free Press Journal, MLA Jagtap highlighted that Pimpri-Chinchwad's transformation into an industrial hub began under the leadership of the late Laxman Jagtap. 'Carrying that legacy forward, I raised this demand in the State Assembly, and now we're closer than ever to seeing it happen!" he said. In another major development, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has suggested extending the metro network from Loni Kalbhor to Uruli Kanchan, to tackle rising traffic congestion along the Pune–Solapur Highway and support rapid urban growth. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'What If An Infiltrator Enters': SC Refuses To Put Stay On Detention Of Bengali Migrant Workers

Last Updated: The apex court declined an interim stay on the detention of Muslim Bengali migrant workers, citing concerns about the potential consequences of not monitoring illegal immigration. The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to put an interim stay on the detention and deportation of Muslim Bengali migrant workers, highlighting concerns over unchecked illegal entry of migrants and their assimilation in Indian society, while stressing a mechanism to identify bonafide workers. In a stern message, Justice Surya Kant said, 'Suppose someone has come illegally in India, how to deal with that situation? If they don't detain, he will disappear." 'Some mechanism required for bonafide workers…either state of origin can issue some kind of card…and local police accept it as prima facie proof of his having come for livelihood," Justice Kant added. The hearing came amid concerns that Bengali-speaking individuals were detained in the national capital on suspicion of being Bangladeshi citizens without verifying their identities. The West Bengal government has slammed the BJP-led Centre for targeting Bengalis, while Kolkata Police introduced a helpline for migrant workers from the state facing harassment and identity checks elsewhere. 'States where these migrant workers are working have the right to inquire from their state of origin about their bonafide but the problem is in the interregnum. If we pass any interim orders, then it will have consequences, especially those who have illegally come from across the border and need to be deported under the law," the bench comprising Justices Kant and Joymalya Bagchi said. view comments First Published: August 14, 2025, 12:17 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
