Olly Murs shares the reason he can now 'relate to his mum's sadness' over his 15-year estrangement from his twin brother Ben

Daily Mail4 days ago
Olly Murs has revealed that becoming a parent has helped him to 'relate to his mum's sadness' over his estrangement from his twin brother Ben.
The singer, 40, has not spoken to his sibling since he missed his wedding in late 2009 to take part in The X Factor semi-finals.
And in a joint interview with his wife Amelia for The Sunday Times Magazine, Olly shared that since they welcomed their first child, daughter Madison, last year, he's had greater understanding of the impact the fall-out had on the family.
He said: 'Now I'm a parent I can relate more to my mum's sadness that my twin brother, Ben, and I have been estranged since 2009, though I've got nothing but love and respect for him.'
'This year I've been on tour and I've got a new album out later in 2025. I joined Robbie Williams on stage in June and it was great to catch up with him — he's been like a big brother to me over the years.'
Olly and Amelia are set to welcome their second child together later this year, after tying the knot in 2023.
The singer added that he's planning to be much more present this time around, after leaving home just days after Madison's birth to support Take That on tour.
He said: 'Two days after Madison was born I had to go on tour supporting Take That. Amelia had lots of support around her as her mum came to stay and my parents live near us in Essex, but it was hard and I felt guilty.
'We both understand that my work isn't like a regular job — but second time round I'm not going anywhere.'
The Dear Darling hitmaker previously shared the long-term impact his fall-out with his brother has had on him, admitting he 'struggles with loneliness.'
He told The Times last year: 'When you've been in the womb with someone, you struggle with loneliness. I had to deal with it when my twin and I went on our separate lives.
'I was desperate to be around people, could not sit in a room alone.'
At the time, Olly did not give any indication of whether he and his brother will ever be on speaking terms again but did share that his life goal is now to be the best husband and father he can be.
He added: 'My aim in life is to be a great husband and father - that's where my future lies. I'd love my career to continue as it is, but when you get married and become a dad, you just want to be the best for them.'
In a joint interview with his wife Amelia, Olly shared that since they welcomed their first child last year, he's had greater understanding of the impact the fall-out had on the family
Following the fall-out, Ben also distanced himself from his parents and their sister.
On their feud, Ben told Daily Mail in January 2017: 'I was very close to my parents, but fame and greed changed everything.
'My parents wanted this bright, shiny Olly with the money who can give them the VIP lifestyle. They liked hanging around with Simon Cowell, or going to Bon Jovi concerts – they loved their VIP selfies.
'I'm not interested in anything like that, I have a lovely life with my wife and kids.'
But Olly is still keen to make amends with his brother at some point.
On burying the hatchet, the media personality explained: 'I still want to make that change with my brother.'
Asked by Lorraine Kelly in 2018 if he though the rift could ever heal, Olly said: 'I hope so, of course, it's mad because every year I think about it, (will it be) nine years, 10 years.
'I did text him for his birthday but he changed his number. Christmas has never been the same.'

Emmerdale legend reveals exciting new chapter

Daisy Campbell, who played Amelia Spencer in Emmerdale, has opened up about suffering with 'so much anxiety' following her character's axing from the show, and shared the launch of her new business with fans. The young actress took to Instagram to tell her followers about the opening of her new Pilates studio. '[At the] beginning of this year I had so much anxiety, after losing my job last winter, and really didn't know what I wanted to do with my life. I always knew I wanted to run my own business one day but didn't know exactly where to begin. After I reflected on what I really wanted to do, I did a level 3 mat and reformer Pilates course over the spring and I'm so proud of myself for passing. I realised that I want help people with lifestyle and fitness, especially through Pilates. I want to create a new community for so many people out there' 'This has been the hardest secret to keep. This year I am so proud of myself. I've pushed myself in so many ways. In ways, I never could've never imagined.' Daisy also shared that she'd roped in her grandad to help with getting the building ready, sharing a sweet snap of the two. 'Me and my 80 year old grandad have been renovating this old crown court for 8 weeks now and he's taught me so much, and we've both worked so hard on this to get it to my dream. Every little detail is so special' Daisy debuted on the show at the tender age of 7, arriving as part of the Spencer clan alongside mother, Ali (Kelli Hollis), her fiancée Ruby Haswell (Alicya Eyo) and brother Sean (Luke Roskell). They were later joined by her (presumed) dad, Dan (Liam Fox) and his brother (who's actually her biological dad), Daz (Mark Jordon). Her early storylines involved the tragic death of Ruby following a helicopter accident in the village and her growing closeness to new step mum, Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton) following Ali's decision to move to Liverpool. She later discovered her true parentage and later became embroiled in a kidnap plot, when Beth (Annabelle Kaye), a girl who's father was accidentally killed by Daz in an army training exercise, then, after falling pregnant following a one night stand with Samson Dingle (Sam Hall), she embarked on a relationship with Noah Dingle (Jack Downham), who helped raise her daughter, Esther. Next came a stalking scandal which Amelia ultimately lost her dad to. Dan was sentenced to 8 years after accidentally killing the man who was harassing her. The decision was then made to get rid of her character, following the departure of all of her on-screen family and her final storyline saw her drawn deeply into the deceitful web of evil abuser Tom King (James Chase), with him manipulating Amelia following his campaign of terror against Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper). Although initially blind to Tom's true nature, the scales eventually fell from her eyes and Amelia left the village after finally turning on the sadistic monster. More Trending 'It wasn't my choice to leave Emmerdale and it was a shock at first', Daisy explained to the Mirror at the time. 'Being in Emmerdale is all I have ever known. I've spent the whole of my childhood growing up in the soap and it felt daunting.' 'Amelia isn't part of the Dingles, her dad has left, Samson has gone now and she doesn't have any family. There is nowhere to take Amelia and I understand that. I feel incredibly lucky to have been in the soap for 13 years and to have been handed so many opportunities at such a young age.' She later described a 'grieving process'. 'It feels really sad,' Daisy told Metro. 'It's mixed emotions really. It's been such a tough year, and I've had to deal with so much, but I was so at peace when leaving because I've grieved. 'I'm not only grieving for myself, it's a character that I've always played, this is my first ever job from being seven, so it felt really sad. But then it was nice to close the door and be at peace, because I've just allowed it to play out as it has this year. But yeah, it's really upsetting, because it's all I've ever known.' Jessie J shares update after cancer surgery and hospital dash Singer Jessie J, whose real name is Jessica Cornish, has been open about her health in recent weeks Jessie J also revealed she has a new song 'coming out soon' (Image: Justin Goff Photos, Justin) Pop star Jessie J has shared that she is experiencing significant hair loss following her recent breast cancer operation. The 37-year-old artist, whose real name is Jessica Cornish, underwent a mastectomy in June after being diagnosed with an early form of the disease. ‌ While she confirmed last month there was fortunately 'no cancer spread' post-surgery, she was recently readmitted to the hospital due to an 'infection' and 'fluid' in the lungs. ‌ Jessie updated her fans once more in an Instagram post yesterday, sharing a previous video she'd filmed to mark five weeks since the mastectomy. She said: "Five weeks today, since my surgery, and I'm feeling ok… ‌ "My boobs still aren't even, this is the implant still so sore, and then this is my old, oh, you're not old." She continued: "Now I'm just trying to figure out what the next kind of six months is going to look like. Content cannot be displayed without consent "I know that it has to change, and I can't do anything that I was supposed to be doing, but I just want to be able to like, make it work best I can for everybody, me, Sky (her daughter), my fans, but in the right order. Article continues below "It's so hard, like you're always going to leave some people disappointed, my perspective on everything has changed so much." The London-born star also teased that she has a new song 'coming out soon'. Whilst Jessie said she couldn't do 'as much promo for it' due to her ongoing recovery, she stressed that she 'can't have it sitting in [her] phone for another year'. This revelation follows her recent hospital visit, which she described as a 'reminder to myself to slow down', despite already feeling she was moving at a slower pace. ‌ In an earlier Instagram post, Jessie said: "This isn't a speedy recovery and it isn't meant to be. As an ADHD Aries, fire breathing dragon t-rex, I can do it myself, I'm always ok woman. That slow pace has been a hard reality to accept to be honest. "I love moving and working and being up and active but I can't be right now, and that's what it is, and I am finding the strength knowing that all can be adjusted to align with a slower pace and the support of my very small inner support circle." Article continues below Jessie welcomed her son, Sky Safir Cornish Colman, in 2023, following a miscarriage in November 2021. She has faced numerous health challenges throughout her life, including a heart condition diagnosis at eight years old, a minor stroke at 18, and temporary deafness in 2020. The singer-songwriter has had three number-one hits on the UK singles chart with Domino, Price Tag, and Bang Bang. In 2011, she was honoured with four Mobo awards, including best UK act, best newcomer, best song for Do It Like A Dude, and best album with Who You Are. She also won the Brit Award for rising star. Police close probe into death of Gogglebox's George Gilbey

Two men were arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter but have since been cleared and will face no further action from Essex police. The Health and Safety Executive will continue to investigate the death of the 40-year-old self-employed electrician at a warehouse in Shoebury, Essex. Inspector Natalie Prince said: 'This will aim to establish if there have been any breaches of health and safety law.' George was part of the Gogglebox family for eight series alongside his mum Linda and step-dad Pete. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Linda, and George's family and friends at this very sad time. The family have asked for privacy. George Gilbey, his mum, Linda McGarry, and her husband Pete rose to fame when they first appeared on the hit Channel 4 programme Gogglebox in 2013. Over the years, he has shown up elsewhere on television, including Celebrity Big Brother. After his sad passing, George's friends gathered in a Clacton-on-Sea pub to celebrate his life. One of them told The Sun: "George was George. He was a good bloke with a big heart who loved his family. "He was a bit of a party lad, but he was good entertainment for everyone who knew him. Discussing his death last year, A Gogglebox spokesperson said: 'George was part of the Gogglebox family for eight series alongside his mum Linda and stepdad Pete.
