Olly Murs shares the reason he can now 'relate to his mum's sadness' over his 15-year estrangement from his twin brother Ben

Daily Maila day ago
Olly Murs has revealed that becoming a parent has helped him to 'relate to his mum's sadness' over his estrangement from his twin brother Ben.
The singer, 40, has not spoken to his sibling since he missed his wedding in late 2009 to take part in The X Factor semi-finals.
And in a joint interview with his wife Amelia for The Sunday Times Magazine, Olly shared that since they welcomed their first child, daughter Madison, last year, he's had greater understanding of the impact the fall-out had on the family.
He said: 'Now I'm a parent I can relate more to my mum's sadness that my twin brother, Ben, and I have been estranged since 2009, though I've got nothing but love and respect for him.'
'This year I've been on tour and I've got a new album out later in 2025. I joined Robbie Williams on stage in June and it was great to catch up with him — he's been like a big brother to me over the years.'
Olly and Amelia are set to welcome their second child together later this year, after tying the knot in 2023.
The singer added that he's planning to be much more present this time around, after leaving home just days after Madison's birth to support Take That on tour.
He said: 'Two days after Madison was born I had to go on tour supporting Take That. Amelia had lots of support around her as her mum came to stay and my parents live near us in Essex, but it was hard and I felt guilty.
'We both understand that my work isn't like a regular job — but second time round I'm not going anywhere.'
The Dear Darling hitmaker previously shared the long-term impact his fall-out with his brother has had on him, admitting he 'struggles with loneliness.'
He told The Times last year: 'When you've been in the womb with someone, you struggle with loneliness. I had to deal with it when my twin and I went on our separate lives.
'I was desperate to be around people, could not sit in a room alone.'
At the time, Olly did not give any indication of whether he and his brother will ever be on speaking terms again but did share that his life goal is now to be the best husband and father he can be.
He added: 'My aim in life is to be a great husband and father - that's where my future lies. I'd love my career to continue as it is, but when you get married and become a dad, you just want to be the best for them.'
In a joint interview with his wife Amelia, Olly shared that since they welcomed their first child last year, he's had greater understanding of the impact the fall-out had on the family
Following the fall-out, Ben also distanced himself from his parents and their sister.
On their feud, Ben told Daily Mail in January 2017: 'I was very close to my parents, but fame and greed changed everything.
'My parents wanted this bright, shiny Olly with the money who can give them the VIP lifestyle. They liked hanging around with Simon Cowell, or going to Bon Jovi concerts – they loved their VIP selfies.
'I'm not interested in anything like that, I have a lovely life with my wife and kids.'
But Olly is still keen to make amends with his brother at some point.
On burying the hatchet, the media personality explained: 'I still want to make that change with my brother.'
Asked by Lorraine Kelly in 2018 if he though the rift could ever heal, Olly said: 'I hope so, of course, it's mad because every year I think about it, (will it be) nine years, 10 years.
'I did text him for his birthday but he changed his number. Christmas has never been the same.'

Stacey Solomon wows in plunging black bikini as mother-of-five enjoys luxury family holiday and admits she felt 'beautiful' in stunning snaps

Stacey Solomon looked incredible in a series of new bikini photos from her family holiday as she admitted her sister made her feel 'beautiful' during the shoot. The TV star, 35, is currently on holiday with her family in Turkey and was seen standing in the waterfall pool as she posed proudly for the camera. Stacey opened up about how her body 'looks different' from last year's holiday pictures because she has 'consistently stuck to her weight training'. Stacey, who shares Rex, five, Rose, two, and Belle, one, with husband Joe Swash, and is also mum to Zachary, 16, and Leighton, 12, looked happy and relaxed as she playfully posed for the pictures. Stacey has been soaking up the sun with her five children at the Regnum Carya hotel, where Molly-Mae Hague and her family also recently visited. In the background, her sister Jemma could be heard encouraging her, saying: 'Turn around, put your arms up. That bikini looks so nice! Pose.' Alongside the images, she wrote: 'Feeling beautiful. The TV star, 35, is currently on holiday with her family in Turkey and was seen standing in the waterfall pool as she posed proudly for the camera She added: 'P.S my body looks a little different to last years summer holiday. I am actually so proud of myself because I've stuck to my weight training consistently since February. Kept quiet and just got my head down & kept going. 'I genuinely only do it because I want to be so strong. Like boss b***h strong. I want to forever be able to pick up my babies with ease & carry double buggies on my shoulder when necessary. 'I feel so much stronger this year which is so empowering & yes my body has changed but honestly I loved my body aesthetically last year as much as I do this year.' Stacey continued: 'I've always been beautiful no matter what shape or size. So I suppose what I'm trying to say is… Don't commit to fitness just for the looks. Do it so you can wrestle your 17 year old & carry all three of your toddlers in 40• heat & you'll enjoy the journey more.' Fans took to the comment section to gush over how incredible Stacey looked writing: 'You're serving absolutely BODDYYYY!! Omg slayyyy'; 'You look healthy and amazing!!'; 'You look incredible, such an inspiration'; 'Absolutely beautiful. Amazing you've been consistent, you should be so proud of yourself'. Some call the Sussexes' Netflix deal a demotion - but the company still sees them as a power couple

While we're all desperate to know what this new deal is really worth in dollars and pounds, one thing I can tell you for certain is that Prince Harry and Meghan want us to know they're delighted that Netflix again wanted to get a deal done. "Absolutely over the moon" is how it was described to me. But they'll also be aware of the attention it'll attract as we all try to pick apart what it means. Image: Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. Pic: Jake Rosenberg/Netflix Firstly because of that ongoing fascination in how they're making money since stepping away from royal life and losing financial support from the King, but also because of the recent reports that Netflix were intending to cut ties. Yes this is a different type of deal from their original one in 2020. Some have argued that a "first look deal" looks like a demotion from what they previously signed up to. With no real clarity on how much their original deal was worth, and no numbers being publicly thrown around this time, that is hard to judge. But talking to those who know something about these kinds of deals you do get a sense it could potentially be more lucrative than it looks on face value. With first look deals, yes there is often financial commitments from the likes of Netflix to get that first exclusive look at projects and first refusal. Please use Chrome browser for a more accessible video player 2:22 Harry claims: War of words continues But there could be other significant monetary incentives for the Sussexes to sign. For example, when the Obamas signed a first look deal with Netflix, the streaming service agreed to pay the operational costs for their production company "Higher Ground". Could it be that Netflix are also now covering the costs of Archewell Productions? Follow the World Listen to The World with Richard Engel and Yalda Hakim every Wednesday Tap to follow It's stating the obvious to say that Harry and Meghan continue to divide opinions, some wanting to watch their programmes from a place of respect and fondness, others as a reason to grumble about them. But signing on this latest dotted line shows Netflix still sees them as a power couple, who attract significant attention and are worthy of investment, whatever that really adds up to.
