The film, released on June 5, marks the reunion of Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan nearly four decades after their 1987 collaboration, Nayakan.
Thug Life, co-produced by Raaj Kamal Films International and Madras Talkies, follows Rangaraya Sakthivel Naickar (Haasan), a crime lord, seeking revenge for betrayals within his own gang, including his brother and adopted son, Amaran (played by Silambarasan). The film also explores themes of mistrust, power struggles, and Sakthivel's complex relationship with an influencer, Indrani (played by Trisha Krishnan).
Co-written by Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam, the film also features an ensemble cast including Trisha Krishnan, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Nasser, Abhirami and Aishwarya Lekshmi in pivotal roles. Music maestro A.R. Rahman has composed the music of the film.
One of the major reasons behind Thug Life's box office failure could be a call to boycott the project in light of recent remarks made by Kamal Haasan. During a promotional event for the film, Haasan had remarked that 'Kannada is born out of Tamil," which didn't go well with the pro-Kannada groups.
Also, previously, the film received criticism for intimate moments with 70-year-old Haasan and 42-year-old Krishnan in the trailer.
Up next, Kamal Haasan will be seen in the sci-fi action thriller, Kalki 2898 AD Part 2, along with Deepika Padukone, Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan. Helmed by Nag Ashwin, the film is expected to go on floors in December this year.

This singer who gave tough competition to Lata Mangeshkar, made 170 songs, later faded into poverty, Salman Khan helped her; She was...

Between 1950 and 1970, the golden age of Hindi cinema echoed with the voices of Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi. Their songs played on every radio station, at every celebration, and became an integral part of India's musical identity. But there was another voice, soaked in simplicity, pain, and raw emotion—that once shared the stage with these legends. Her name was Mubarak Begum. Where did her journey in music begin? Mubarak Begum began singing for All India Radio in her childhood. Her first break in films came in 1949, with the movie Aiye , where she sang 'Mohe Aane Lagi Angdaayi' and also shared a duet with Lata Mangeshkar, 'Aao Chale Sakhi Wahan'. The years that followed brought her moments of glory. In Devdas (1955), she gave us 'Woh Na Aayenge Palat Kar', a haunting melody. She moved hearts with 'Hum Haal-e-Dil Sunayenge' in Madhumati (1958). But it was her soulful rendition of 'Kabhi Tanhaiyon Mein Yun' from Hamari Yaad Aayegi (1961) that became her most iconic song. How many songs did she sing? In her lifetime, Mubarak Begum sang in over 110 films, lending her voice to more than 170 songs. Her voice had sweetness, pain, and purity, yet, as the industry evolved, support dwindled. New trends came. New voices took over. Work dried up. By the 1970s, she had almost entirely vanished from the playback scene. But she never gave up her love for music. What happened to her later in life? Age caught up. Her health declined. So did her financial condition. She lived with her son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter in a tiny one-room flat in Mumbai's Jogeshwari area. Her family barely managed to survive. Her only steady income came from her late husband's meagre pension. Her son worked occasionally as a driver, and her daughter-in-law, Zarina Hussain Sheikh, became her full-time caregiver. Did anyone from the film industry help her? When things got worse, the family had to ask for help. And surprisingly, Salman Khan was the only person from the industry who came forward regularly. Zarina shared with the media, 'Salman Khan was the only one who kept helping us and bore all of her medical expenses.' In 2016, even then-minister Vinod Tawde extended a hand. While government aid didn't materialise, a trust run by his associates helped with some financial relief. How did her story end? Mubarak Begum breathed her last on 18 July 2016, at the age of 80. No grand tributes. No star-studded send-off. Just silence. The voice that once brought emotion to the silver screen slipped away quietly, like the last note of an old, forgotten song.

Park Bo Gum Gets A Sweet Surprise From IU On The Final Shoot Of The Seasons

Last Updated: IU also apologised to Park Bo Gum for not being able to attend his music program. South Korean singer and actress IU just gave her When Life Gives You Tangerines co-star Park Bo Gum a pleasant surprise. She sent a heartfelt message to him during the final shoot of The Seasons: Park Bo Gum' s Cantabile, which he co-hosts. While her message certainly left him emotional, what came after it brought tears to his eyes. The two stars share a close bond ever since they worked on the Netflix K-drama, which took the world by storm. They have always spoken highly of one another and supported the other whenever needed. So, the latest gesture made by IU was not something totally out of the blue. As Park Bo Gum was preparing to wrap up the show, a video message started playing. In it, IU congratulated him on the successful run of the show, saying, 'As much as it's your last shoot of The Seasons, I wanted to congratulate you via this video message." Further, she apologised for not being able to appear on any episodes of the show. The singer added, 'When you had your first broadcast, I said that I would definitely appear on the show. I apologise for not being able to keep my promise to be a guest. I'm really, really sorry. But you know my heart's sincerity and that I watched the broadcast almost every week, right? You were the best as an MC." Bo Gum shook his head softly, assuring her that it was alright. She continued, 'I was able to enjoy singer Park Bo Gum, performer/ musician Park Bo Gum, so it was great. You were really amazing on Cantabile. I'm so sorry about not appearing that…I'm here." Then came the twist. With a bunch of flowers in her hand, she entered onto the stage. She got down on her knees and presented the bouquet to her friend, who was already overwhelmed by her kind gesture. IU patted his back to calm him down. Park Bo Gum Got Emotional Seeing IU On The Stage Bo Gum had tears in his eyes when IU introduced herself as his 'friend." Seeing him all emotional, the audience, in harmony, said, 'Don't cry." IU even shared that she wanted to keep her appearance as cheerful as possible and did not want to make him cry. To this, the actor asked, 'What are you doing (here)?" She then explained that she had been waiting for the right time to surprise him, and she managed to squeeze in some time between her drama shoots. Furthermore, Bo Gum told the audience that he did not want to burden her by asking her to attend the show. So, he was as surprised as anyone in the room. Park Bo Gum and IU played the lead couple in When Life Gives You Tangerines, which premiered earlier this year.
