NPRA Undersecretary Receives Capital Governor
Manama: Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, Ministry of Interior Undersecretary for Nationality, Passports and Residence (NPRA), received Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa, the Capital Governor. The meeting marked the celebration of the Capital Governorate's achievement in receiving the accreditation certificate from the World Health Organization as the first 'Healthy Governorate' in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the undersecretary commended this significant national milestone, describing it as a pivotal step towards advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. He emphasised the initiative's role in enhancing the quality of life by promoting healthy practices, improving essential services, and fostering community partnerships.
Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman noted that this achievement reflects the dedication of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the unwavering support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
The undersecretary highlighted that the accomplishment builds on a successful trajectory initiated with the launch of the Healthy Cities Programme in 2017. The programme first recognised the Um Al Hasam area as a Healthy City in 2018, followed by Manama, which became the first Healthy City in the region in 2021. This progress extended to include all villages and cities within the governorate, culminating in the Capital Governorate being declared the first Healthy Governorate.

Kuwait Arrests Indian ‘Housewife' Posing As Doctor, Running Underground Clinic
Kuwaiti authorities have arrested an Indian woman for practicing medicine without a licence at an unregistered clinic in the Jleeb Al Shuyoukh area, according to a statement from the Ministry of Interior. The arrest was carried out by detectives from the Farwaniya police command's Jleeb Al Shuyoukh Investigations Section as part of Kuwait's ongoing crackdown on illegal medical practices. At the time of arrest, the woman was reportedly treating a child. Although officially listed as a 'housewife,' she was found operating a clinic stocked with various medications, a blood pressure monitor, a stethoscope, and infant formula supplied by the Ministry of Health. Investigators revealed that the woman had been preparing and dispensing 'folk remedies' in capsule form without medical supervision or government approval. She admitted to having no qualifications or official licenses. Some medicines were reportedly imported, while others were sourced from local pharmacies. A security source said the woman primarily treated expatriates who were living in Kuwait without valid residency or work permits, and therefore unable to access public healthcare. Patients were charged modest fees for medical services. The Ministry of Interior confirmed the suspect has been referred to the public prosecution for further legal action.

Saudi Arabia Spells Out Health Rules For Hajj Workers
Authorities in the Saudi holy city of Mecca have announced steps for workers engaged in this year's Hajj pilgrimage season to obtain related health certificates and the validity duration of the mandatory document. The Mecca Municipality has directed those workers to apply for the seasonal health certificates for the Hajj online via the Balady platform using the link: The applicants are required to undergo obligatory medical tests at accredited labour testing centres, and pass a health education course. These courses cover three main areas, namely food safety, shaving, and public health. The seasonal health certificate expires on the 15th of the Islamic lunar month of Al Muharram, corresponding to July 10. The municipality has urged all such workers to complete the requirements on time to ensure their participation in the upcoming Hajj season. In mid-April, Saudi authorities started issuing online permits for residents, who will be engaged in the works linked to the Hajj season. The Saudi General Directorate of Passports said it has begun receiving applications from such workers to obtain entry permits to Mecca through the Ministry of Interior's electronic platform 'Absher' and the 'Muqeem' portal. The applicants do not need to visit the offices of the passport departments to get the permits. The directorate cited technical integration with a unified digital platform for issuing Hajj permits dubbed the 'Tasareeh platform'. Entry permits to Mecca are issued through the Muqeem portal to workers in establishments based in the city, holders of seasonal work visas, and those who have employment contracts with those establishments during the Hajj season. As of April 29, holders of all types of visas, except those holding a Hajj visa, will not be allowed to enter or remain in Mecca.
