The Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security UAE posted on X all the steps that can smoothen the process. How to renew your Emirates ID Step One: Submit your fingerprint data on time (Credit: CanvaPro) Get your biometrics taken within 30 days of your application date. Usually, you don't need to do this unless you are new to the city, but if you've been in the system for over 10 years, you might be asked to rescan your fingerprints. Everyone over the age of 15 must submit their fingerprints. Wondering how to book an appointment? When applying for your Emirates ID, you can book yourself an appointment at an ICP Customer Happiness Centre. If you are applying for a visa yourself, you can book a slot through the ICP website. Step Two: Sort out your medical insurance (Credit: CanvaPro) In Dubai, the sponsor is legally responsible for getting the medical insurance. Once this is sorted, you need to complete the procedures of your residence visa (such as a medical test). Step Three: Put the applicant's correct telephone number (Credit: CanvaPro) This is a very, very important step as this is the number through which you'll get status updates – including when your Emirates ID is ready for pick up. Keep an eye on the SMS that will help you keep track of which point of the process your application is at. Step four: Check the dates on your passport (Credit: CanvaPro) Your passport must be valid for more than six months when you apply for your Emirates ID. It's located on the first page of your passport along with the information of when and where the document was approved. Step five: Make modifications in time (Credit: CanvaPro) The authority calls for any modifications to the applications that need to be made to be made within 30 days. Air conditioning on the Dubai Metro just got a big upgrade
Rides on the Dubai Metro are set to be more comfortable than ever before following the latest major upgrade to the service. The Roads and Transport Authority has just completed its largest ever overhaul of ventilation and air conditioning systems. Temperatures across the Red and Green Lines will now be at a cool 24 – 25°C – particularly essential during the hot summer months when temperatures can often be north of 40°C in Dubai. A total of 876 ventilation and air conditioning assets have been overhauled at 14 stations and two car parks across the busy Red Line, with no impact on train operations, in the second phase of this vital project. In phase one, the RTA had overhauled 261 assets across 13 stations. Air conditioning and ventilation upgrades are carried out on the Dubai Metro (Credit: Dubai Media Office) The summer season presents a big challenge for public transport systems in this region, with large volumes of hot air continuously entering station environments. Trains arrive every few minutes and doors open every two to four minutes, which then has an impact on temperatures inside the cabins. And that's why the ventilation and cooling systems at stations need to operate at optimal capacity and maintain a consistent internal temperature of 24 to 25°C across the network. The RTA says that the latest upgrade is part of its strategic plan for 2024 to 2030, which aims to improve passenger comfort, customer happiness, operational efficiency and long-term asset sustainability. Extensive works included the replacement and refurbishment of key components such as air handling units (AHUs), fan coil units (FCUs), chilled water pumps, extract fans, smoke extract fans, and pressurisation units. The project scope also encompassed tasks such as bearing and cooling coil replacement, deep cleaning and dynamic balancing—restoring all equipment to its original design performance. The 10-month programme was scheduled to take place outside peak hours and during night shifts to ensure smooth station operations and a seamless passenger experience. Phase three will target the remaining quarter of public-area FCUs and the back-of-house critical room AHUs across Red Line stations. The project was completed in close coordination between the RTA's Rail Agency and Keolis-MHI, the operator responsible for maintaining the Dubai Metro.
