Browns' Devin Bush charged with assault after altercation with girlfriend

Fox News05-05-2025
Cleveland Browns linebacker Devin Bush was charged with harassment and misdemeanor simple assault after allegedly chasing a woman through his house in Pittsburgh and smashing her phone.
A woman, who identified herself as Bush's girlfriend, reportedly told authorities who arrived at his home in Sewickley that he assaulted her, taking her car keys and breaking her phone in the process.
The woman alleged Bush, 26, broke her phone to not allow her to call for help.
An officer from Bell Acres Borough Police Department wrote in the charging documents that the argument began after the woman brought up Bush's friend and a mess in the kitchen.
The woman began to record Bush on her phone, police stated, after he had become "more aggressive." She alleged Bush chased her and pinned her to a massage table, putting "his full body weight on to her" to grab the phone.
Bush allegedly smashed her phone and went looking for her iPad as well.
The woman's daughter was also present, and they both fled to a neighbor's home. A police affidavit states noticeable injuries on her right wrist and right foot were present; she alleged they came from Bush trying to take her phone.
When approached by police, Bush allegedly admitted that he smashed the woman's phone "but denied getting physical," and she told police he didn't want to be recorded in his house.
Bush was the 10th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he spent his first four seasons. He racked up 286 combined tackles over 52 games for the franchise before moving around the last two seasons.
In 2023, Bush played 13 games with the Seattle Seahawks, starting in three of them, where he tallied 37 tackles (five for loss).
He joined the Browns this past season, starting in 10 of his 16 games played. It was a revitalized Bush, who finished with 76 tackles, one sack and three passes defended.

Texans safety Jimmie Ward sued by woman he was arrested for allegedly assaulting in June

This story contains depictions of domestic violence. Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward has been arrested twice in two months and is now facing a civil lawsuit from the woman he allegedly assaulted in June, according to multiple reports Thursday. Ward, 34, was arrested on June 12 on a felony domestic violence charge. The suit, filed Wednesday in Harris County (Texas) District Court by the plaintiff, alleges that she was "violently assaulted multiple times, both sexually and physically" by Ward, whom she also accuses of drug use, emotional abuse, financial manipulation and death threats, according to ESPN's report. She is reportedly seeking $20 million in damages. The suit notes that Ward and the woman have been together for years and share a 3-year-old child, who allegedly has been present while Ward has allegedly assaulted the woman, according to ABC13. The woman reportedly alleges that early on the morning of June 12, Ward slapped, choked and threatened her and forced her to perform oral sex. The ESPN report states that as soon as the woman got a chance to remove herself and the child from the home, she took the child and ran into the street. The woman was naked at the time, and that's when she called 911, per the report. Reporting from the Houston Chronicle that day detailed that Ward was arrested around 5:30 a.m. after deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office responded to the situation. Ward was released that afternoon on $30,000 bond. Since Ward's initial arrest, he has violated his bond agreement twice, according to the suit: first when he contacted the woman and then again when he tested positive for alcohol, per ESPN's report. The second violation resulted in another arrest of Ward earlier this month. "Our main focus right now is the grand jury, that is set for first week of September, to try to convince the grand jury that Jimmie should not be indicted," Ward's attorney, Stephen Jackson, told ESPN. "We're going to take this one step at a time. We're going to focus on the criminal allegations to try to get those dismissed, and then we'll focus on the civil suit." The plaintiff's attorney is Tony Buzbee, whose firm recently represented a woman who filed a since-settled lawsuit that accused Pro Football Hall of Famer and media personality Shannon Sharpe of rape. Notably, Buzbee also represented multiple women in sexual misconduct and assault cases against former Texans and current Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, who was ultimately suspended 11 games by the NFL in 2022 and fined $5 million after facing accusations from more than 24 massage therapists. While the Texans declined comment to ESPN, the franchise's general manager, Nick Caserio, said the team would "kind of let the legal process take care of itself" when he was asked about the matter on the first day of training camp. Ward is on Houston's physically unable to perform list due to a sprained foot he's still recovering from. The injury required season-ending surgery last season. Ward, voted a Texans captain in 2023 and 2024, has not practiced during camp this year and has not been activated.

Urban Meyer says NFL should suspend Jim Harbaugh for NCAA violations at Michigan

Count Urban Meyer among those who thinks the NFL should punish Jim Harbaugh following his tenure at Michigan football. The former Ohio State football coach said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell should hand down a suspension to Harbaugh — now coach of the NFL's Los Angeles Chargers — due to the penalties arising from the Connor Stalions sign-stealing scandal. Meyer, who coached Ohio State from 2012 through partway through the 2018 season, referenced former Buckeyes coach Jim Tressel as a precedent during an appearance on The Triple Option podcast on Wednesday, Aug. 20. "There's an elephant in the room here that no one's talking about," Meyer said. "When Tressel was fired by Ohio State and he was given a suspension. Roger Goodell, commissioner of the National Football League, came out and said that we're going to honor that suspension. "[Tressel] went to the Indianapolis Colts to work in the replay room. The Colts, because of the respect they had for the NCAA and the suspension, suspended Jim Tressel, so he was unable to perform his duties for the first six games of the year." Tressel resigned from Ohio State in 2011 after an NCAA investigation found OSU players received improper benefits, including quarterback Terrelle Pryor. Tressel then went to work for the Indianapolis Colts as a game-day advisor but, upon his suggestion to the Colts' leadership, did not begin his tenure with the team until the seventh game of the season, honoring the suspension from the NCAA. While Goodell did not hand down Tressel's suspension, he did support it. "I support that decision. I think that's a wise one," Goodell said at the time. "I think it was clear that if they didn't take an appropriate action, I would have taken appropriate action." However, Meyer does not believe a suspension for Harbaugh is coming. "Any chance that Roger Goodell and the NFL, of course not. I don't know why," Meyer said. Harbaugh was suspended for one year and given a four-year show-cause order by the NCAA in 2024 after he was found to have demonstrated both 'unethical conduct' and a failure to promote 'an atmosphere of compliance." The show-cause order is effective from Aug. 7, 2024 through Aug. 6, 2028, and he would face a one-year suspension if he decided to leave the NFL for another college job in that window. Harbaugh has since received an additional 10-year show cause, which will take effect on Aug. 7, 2028. Harbaugh led the Wolverines to the 2023 College Football Playoff championship before leaving to coach the Chargers. Los Angeles went 11-6 in the first season under Harbaugh, losing in the AFC wild card game to the Houston Texans.

Chiefs Make Major Security Change After Bullet Fired Into Andy Reid's Office

Losing Super Bowl LIX to the Philadelphia Eagles was a heartbreaking moment unto itself, but three of the most important members of the organization had personal terrifying close calls away from the field. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce were both robbed during home burglaries 24 hours apart back in October, and it was revealed on Wednesday that head coach Andy Reid had a close call of his own in May of last year when a bullet was fired into his office, according to the Kansas City Star. Because of the incident, the Chiefs took extra precaution to ensure Reid's safety while inside his office. "The most prominent active head coach in the NFL now works protected by bulletproof glass, sources said, a safety measure installed soon after," Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star reported. Three shots were reportedly fired in total — one into Reid's office, one that hit the third floor, and another that struck an air-conditioning unit. The Chiefs kept the incident under wraps for the last 15 months, and things were kept so close to the vest that many who work in the building didn't even know about the incident until the Star's report broke. "It had previously not been widely known in the 15 months after its occurrence — even among those in the building," McDowell wrote. "For many Chiefs players and staff, The Star's report will be the first they have learned of the gunfire that hit the facility."
