Browns linebacker Devin Bush, facing assault charge, learns trial date

PITTSBURGH (WJW/AP) – The trial for Cleveland Browns linebacker Devin Bush, who was arrested back in May, is set to start in early December, according to court records. Bush, 27, was charged with harassment and misdemeanor simple assault after allegedly chasing a woman through his suburban Pittsburgh home and crushing her cellphone, as FOX 8 previously reported. Officers responded to the 911 call from the Sewickley residence. The woman, identifying herself as Bush's girlfriend, said the linebacker allegedly assaulted her, took her car keys and smashed her phone so she couldn't call for help. According to a criminal docket from the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County, Bush's jury trial will begin on Dec. 2 at 9 a.m. A Bell Acres Borough Police Department officer wrote in charging documents that the woman said they had argued Sunday morning about a friend of Bush's and a mess in the kitchen. Cleveland Browns starter shockingly announces retirement two days into training camp

The Cleveland Browns are in full swing in training camp, as they continue with their quarterback competition to see who will be their starter in Week 1. And while the competition is at the forefront of discussions, one Browns veteran shockingly announced his retirement. Linebacker Jordan Hicks took to social media to announce that he is retiring from the NFL "After 23 years of playing football, I'm officially retiring from the NFL," Hicks said in a social media post. "Football has given me more than I could have ever imagined. Purpose, discipline, brotherhood, and a platform to impact others. But most importantly it showed me who I am outside the game. I leave this chapter with deep gratitude for every lesson, challenge, and victory. I'm proud of what I accomplished on the field, but even more proud of the man I've become because of it. To my teammates, coaches, fans, and most importantly my family.. thank you for your unwavering support throughout this journey. I'm looking forward to this next season of life and all that it brings. I walk away with peace knowing I gave football all I had, and the best is yet to come." Hicks racked up 952 tackles across 10 seasons and helped the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl in 2017. This now puts Devin Bush in position to start, and almost guarantees a starting job for rookie Carson Schwesinger. Browns' Devin Bush charged with assault after altercation with girlfriend

Cleveland Browns linebacker Devin Bush was charged with harassment and misdemeanor simple assault after allegedly chasing a woman through his house in Pittsburgh and smashing her phone. A woman, who identified herself as Bush's girlfriend, reportedly told authorities who arrived at his home in Sewickley that he assaulted her, taking her car keys and breaking her phone in the process. The woman alleged Bush, 26, broke her phone to not allow her to call for help. An officer from Bell Acres Borough Police Department wrote in the charging documents that the argument began after the woman brought up Bush's friend and a mess in the kitchen. The woman began to record Bush on her phone, police stated, after he had become "more aggressive." She alleged Bush chased her and pinned her to a massage table, putting "his full body weight on to her" to grab the phone. Bush allegedly smashed her phone and went looking for her iPad as well. The woman's daughter was also present, and they both fled to a neighbor's home. A police affidavit states noticeable injuries on her right wrist and right foot were present; she alleged they came from Bush trying to take her phone. When approached by police, Bush allegedly admitted that he smashed the woman's phone "but denied getting physical," and she told police he didn't want to be recorded in his house. Bush was the 10th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he spent his first four seasons. He racked up 286 combined tackles over 52 games for the franchise before moving around the last two seasons. In 2023, Bush played 13 games with the Seattle Seahawks, starting in three of them, where he tallied 37 tackles (five for loss). He joined the Browns this past season, starting in 10 of his 16 games played. It was a revitalized Bush, who finished with 76 tackles, one sack and three passes defended. Browns LB Devin Bush finds himself in hot water with the law

Browns LB Devin Bush finds himself in hot water with the law Cleveland Browns linebacker Devin Bush was arrested Sunday in Bell Acres Borough for simple assault and harassment, as first reported by Colin Dunlap of KDKA Radio. Online documents, screenshotted by Dunlap, reveal Bush awaits a preliminary arraignment. The incident puts Bush's future with the team in jeopardy and could lead to NFL discipline under the Personal Conduct Policy. Bush, who experienced a career resurgence in 2024 while filling in for the injured Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, resigned with the Browns on a $3.25 million, one year contract earlier in the offseason. However, his arrest now casts a shadow over his continued presence in Cleveland. The Browns' linebacker depth already appears precarious heading into the 2025 season. While the team added Carson Schwesinger at pick 33 in this years NFL draft, the future for Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, who is still recovering from the severe neck injury he sustained last season, remains unknown. Bush's legal troubles further exacerbate these depth concerns, with a potential suspension leaving the Browns thin at the linebacker position out of the gate in come this Fall.
