Majhi reviews PM JANMAN scheme progress, directs swift implementation

, while conducting a comprehensive review of the
PM JANMAN Yojana
on Wednesday, emphasised the timely completion of ambitious projects in the 14 districts of the state where the scheme is operational.
The projects will benefit 3.14 lakh people from 68,605 families spanning across 14 districts, covering 55 blocks, 1,751 villages, 289 panchayats and two urban administrative areas.
In the review meeting, it was stated that the state has deployed
mobile medical units
to all 1,055 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) settlements within 5km of tribal health centres, marking 100% coverage in this initiative. Majhi has asked officials concerned to expedite essential services like water supply, electricity and mobile connectivity in PVTG areas.
Chief secretary Manoj Ahuja has been directed to ensure regular monitoring of these initiatives in remote locations.
Majhi also instructed all secretaries to personally inspect remote areas in the 14 districts where the scheme is operational. District collectors have been directed to submit detailed progress reports after visiting the identified villages and settlements in 14 districts.
The PM JANMAN scheme for 2026 targets the construction of 45,408 houses, the development of 210km of paved roads, the provision of tap water to 1,646 villages, mobile tower connectivity in 351 areas, the construction of hostels in 405 locations and the establishment of 74 multipurpose centres. Majhi asked the officials to complete all the components of projects in the stipulated time frame.
The review meeting was attended by development commissioner Anu Garg, additional chief secretary of revenue and disaster management Deoranjan Kumar Singh and various department secretaries.

Economist S. Mahendra Dev appointed EAC-PM chairman
Economist S. Mahendra Dev has been appointed the new chairman of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), a person informed about the development said. Dev, till Thursday an independent director with Axis Bank, will take charge of the position on Friday, said the person, who spoke on condition of not being named. Earlier in the day, Axis Bank informed stock exchanges that Dev had resigned from its board owing to his appointment as chairman of the EAC-PM, which is a full-time position. EAC-PM did not have a full-time chairman since last November, when its first chairman Bibek Debroy passed away. NITI Aayog vice chairman Suman Bery has been holding the additional charge of EAC-PM since then. The new appointment comes at a time the Narendra Modi government is busy dealing with the tariff war triggered by the US administration and its global macroeconomic implications, while also striving to step up and sustain economic growth rate in order to realize the government's goal of making India a developed country by 2047. Besides advising the Prime Minister on economic and related issues, EAC-PM analyses key issues requiring the attention of policy makers at the highest level. Business Standard reported on Thursday that Dev's appointment is for a period of two years, and that new part-time members of the council include Soumya Kanti Ghosh, K.V. Raju, Chetan Ghate, Pami Dua, Pulak Ghosh and Gourav Vallabh. Mint could not independently verify this. Dev had previously served on several government panels and in the working groups for ninth, tenth and eleventh Five Year Plans. He had also served as the chairman of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices. He received his Ph.D. from the Delhi School of Economics and did his post-doctoral research at the Yale University.

PM Modi plants 'Sindoor sapling' presented by Bhuj women of 1971 War
New Delhi [India], June 5 (ANI): On World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi planted a Sindoor sapling at his 7 Lok Kalyan Marg residence. The sapling was presented to him by a group of women who had displayed exceptional courage during the 1971 war. Over 300 women had gathered at Indian Air Force airstrip in Bhuj to rebuild the airstrip during the 1971 Indo-Pak. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on a two-day visit to Gujarat from May 26, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for a series of development projects worth over Rs 82,950 crore across Dahod, Bhuj, and Gandhinagar. Meanwhile, while addressing the gathering, he extended heartfelt greetings to the people of Kutch and paid deep respects to revolutionaries and martyrs, particularly the great freedom fighter Shyamji Krishna Varma. The Prime Minister conveyed his regards to the sons and daughters of Kutch, acknowledging their resilience and contributions. PM Modi also paid homage to Ashapura Mata, acknowledging her divine presence on the sacred land of Kutch and expressed gratitude for her continuous blessings upon the region and extended his respects to the people. He also highlighted the unwavering determination of the farmers in Kutch, noting that their spirit has always been remarkable and stated that his years of experience in the region greatly contributed to his efforts toward its development. Emphasising that Kutch has demonstrated the power of hope and relentless effort in achieving remarkable success, the Prime Minister recalled the devastating earthquake that once led many to doubt the region's future. However, he had unwavering faith that Kutch would rise from the ashes, and the people made it happen. 'Today, Kutch stands as a major hub for trade, commerce, and tourism', stated the Prime Minister, highlighting that in the coming years, the region's role will expand further. The choice of sapling holds significance as India had named its military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack as Operation Sindoor to convey its commitment to avenge the targeted killings of men by terrorists, who did a religious profile of their victims. Sindoor (vermilion) is traditionally applied by married Hindu women, signifying the religious and cultural bond attached to marital life in the Indian tradition. In a video message posted on X, PM Modi said every country will have to rise above self-interest for the protection of the global climate. He said ending plastic pollution is the theme of this year's World Environment Day and that India has been working on this continuously for the last four to five years. PM Modi said Mission LiFE, which advocates mindful use of resources and adoption of sustainable lifestyles, is becoming a public movement across the globe.
