‘Just Friends' Turned into a Summer Fling, Then Something More
In October 2014, Dr. George Anthony Russo II was making his way from Scituate, Mass., where he was staying with his parents, to Orlando, Fla., for a new job. Along the way, he stopped in Mahopac, N.Y., to visit a friend. The two went to a casino, and as luck would have it, Dr. Russo won $4,000 on a slot machine. This meant he could afford to go to Los Angeles to visit Maggie Amelia Weston, with whom he had just had a 'summer fling.' Dr. Russo and Ms. Weston met that June on her first day working as a hostess at Wahlburgers — a burger chain owned by brothers Donnie, Mark and Paul Wahlberg — in Hingham, Mass. Dr. Russo, who goes by Gidge and was not yet a doctor, was already employed there. He recalled asking co-workers, 'Who's the new girl?' Ms. Weston noticed him too: 'I remember he had a certain confidence and a certain tall, dark and handsome quality.' She had a boyfriend at the time, though the two were on the verge of breaking up, she said. In late June 2014, Dr. Russo invited Ms. Weston 'to hang out on his boat and join a bonfire on the beach with his friends,' Ms. Weston said, who by then was single, which she 'casually mentioned' to Dr. Russo. A week later, he joined her to watch 'Game of Thrones' at her parents' home in Hingham, where she was living for the summer. Still, as 'just friends,' she said, because she was moving to L.A. that fall to pursue her dream of becoming 'a star' in film and television. 'I didn't want to form any attachments that would keep me from my dreams,' she said. 'But Gidge made it very hard.' Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

The Luckiest Cruise Ship Casinos—According To a Gambling.com Ranking
Rows of Casino Slot Machines with Shallow Depth of Field. Las Vegas Gambling Theme. getty Serious gamers chasing big wins often head to the Las Vegas strip or top gambling destinations worldwide like Monte Carlo or Macau. But casinos are also a popular amenity on cruise ships, with everything from slots and roulette to blackjack often on board. These floating casinos, most commonly on larger ships versus smaller river cruises or expedition cruise ships, tend to draw less serious gamblers and generally have tighter slots than their land-based counterparts. But with that being said, if you're a high roller at high seas, some ships may be luckier than others, according to a new analysis from that ranked the luckiest cruise ships casinos. The luckiest cruise ship casino in 2025 is the Diamond Princess, according to analysis released in July 2025. Taking its inaugural cruise in March 2004, the ship — which has a guest capacity of 2,710 — runs several itineraries throughout Asia. Some of those routes include a 12-day trip that traverses through Thailand and Malaysia, several routes through Japan and a Vietnam itinerary that cruises along Halong Bay. 'The ship has a Las Vegas-style casino that offers the latest slot machines, blackjack, Texas hold 'em and prize tournaments,' the announcement from says. To determine the luckiest cruise ships casinos, the team analyzed Tripadvisor reviews, mining them for key words with positive associations to winning such as 'luck,' 'lucky' and 'happy.' This is a similar method used in other 'luckiest casino' rankings, like one in May that determined the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Resort led the list of the luckiest casinos in the United States. For the most part, cruise ships are limited to operating only when the ship is in international waters and not when they're in port. But when it comes to casinos on cruise ships, Princess appears to have an edge. The World Cruise Awards in 2024 named the Enchanted Princess as the best ship for gambling. Routes on this ship range from Canada and New England to the Caribbean as well as trips in the Mediterranean and Aegean seas. While many large cruise lines have gambling options on board, others, including Viking and Disney Cruise Line, have opted against having casinos onboard. Some cruise lines, like WIndStar Cruises, though, have scrapped casinos from their ships and repurposed the square footage into public spaces. Azamara converted its casinos into a relaxing lounge area for guests to read, hang out, mingle and listen to live piano music. Here's the top five luckiest cruise ship casinos, according to No. 1: Diamond Princess operated by Princess The Vegas-style casino offers gaming lessons and is a place where you can try your luck at slot machines, roulette, blackjack, Texas Hold 'Em, and more. No. 2: Wonder of the Seas operated by Royal Caribbean Wonder of the Seas runs cruises from Miami to the Caribbean, with stops at the cruise line's private island CocoCay. The cruise line's casino is called Casino Royale. No. 3: Infinity operated by Celebrity Smoke-free casinos offer slot machines and table games, featuring blackjack, baccarat and more. For adjacent fun with less at stake, play a live-action game of Deal or No Deal . No. 4: The Emerald operated by Princess The Emerald Princess cruise ship offers a variety of cruises, ranging from a Pacific Wine Country trip to one that travels to the Baja Peninsula and Sea of Cortez in Mexico. Most ships set sail out of Los Angeles. No. 5: Queen Elizabeth operated by Cunard Cruise Line

Spotify's lax privacy means anyone can see the Vice President's song choices
A new cybersecurity "breach" has revealed the personal information of various celebrities, and while it won't let you steal their identities, it will allow you to... judge them. The "Panama Playlists" details the Spotify song choices of notable people ranging from Vice President JD Vance to talk show host Seth Meyers to tech bros like Palmer Luckey. And technically, it wasn't a breach at all, but a possible lack of understanding around Spotify's privacy settings. Spotify has always allowed users to make playlists public or private and some even actively seek followers. On top of that, each playlist cover shows "Public Playlist" or "Private Playlist" right up top. However, the default for new playlists is "Public," so many users may not be aware that they're listening habits are available for the world to see — if someone looks hard enough. That's exactly what the unknown creator of the Panama Playlists did: simply search for famous people and find their public playlists. The results aren't really that interesting? Sure, it's kind of funny that JD Vance has I Want It That Way on his "Making Dinner" playlist, ironic that White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt's playlist features Aretha Franklin's Respect, and very on-the-nose that US AG Pam Bondi has Cold As Ice on her playlist. Other standouts are Young Dumb, Broke by Khalid on Sam Bankman-Fried's "loud" playlist, James Blake's Retrograde on Pete Buttigieg's "Election Eve" playlist and Billions and Billions on venture capitalist Mark Andreesen's "Focus Alpha" list. In other words, everything is about as you'd expect given the personalities (most of whom aren't exactly in the A-list tier). As The Verge noted, one list was attributed to Kara Swisher, but she said it was inaccurate so it was removed. While a relative trifle compared to other data leaks, Panama Playlists does show Spotify's loose behavior around user privacy. For one thing, it makes all your playlists public by default. If you switch that to private in the settings, it will only affect playlists created afterwards. You then need to set each one to private individually. Playlists, followers and following also appear on your profile by default. With that in mind, think of Spotify as not just a streaming but a social media platform, and treat your privacy accordingly.
